N? I K?T

It is wonderful to connect wi th a signi ficant person in our l ives that we have not seen in a long t ime. There is great conversation, gett ing caught up on al l that has happened since our last visi t and reminiscing about past good t imes together. It is refreshing and renewing to connect wi th those we love. In fact, the experience is so good, we sometimes wonder why we let so much t ime pass before making the connection. In the Gospel, Jesus says he is the vine and we are the branches (John 15:1-8). This beauti ful passage reminds us we are connected to the greatest love the

world has ever known. We are also prompted to remember that i f the connection is to stay strong and healthy, i t is important for us to take the ini t iat ive in helping that to happen. The degree to which we stay connected to Jesus in the midst of our busy l ives is often determined by the people and things to which we are connected on a regular basis. From time to t ime we might ask ourselves, to whom are we connected in our l ives and wi th whom do we spend our t ime? Are those wi th whom we spend t ime people who are important to us? How do we spend major chunks of our t ime? work ing, studying, praying, tak ing care of our chi ldren, texting, gaming, talk ing on the phone, surfing the net, watching TV? What are we watching, reading and l istening to? The connections we make in various areas of our l ives can draw us closer or distance us from Jesus. These connections can heighten our awareness of what is going on in our personal l ives and in our world. They can also distract us from seeing what needs attention. We can be so frantic and scattered in connecting wi th st imulus outside of ourselves that we fai l to see our disconnection from the suffering and injustices of the bigger world.

Perhaps i t is t ime to connect again wi th God, wi th people we love, wi th those who are suffering, wi th goodness and beauty in our world. It is always t ime to let Jesus, the true Vine, help us to make those connections.

FOOD DISTRIBUTION PROGRAMChrist Cathedral Communi ty Outreach, in conjunction wi th Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, is having a food distribution service on the fi rst Saturday of every month. The next Saturday distribution wi l l be on May 5 at the Helping House from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

Currently the program is look ing for volunteers to pick up food from locations in Orange County. Days of the week and t ime of pick up vary. Persons doing this important job must:

Es maravi l loso cuando tenemos contacto con alguien especial en nuestras vidas que no hemos visto en mucho t iempo. Se t iene una gran conversación recordando todo lo bueno que se ha pasado juntos y también se ponen al tanto de lo que ha pasado recientemente. Es refrescante y renovante el tener contacto con las personas que queremos. La experiencia es tan buena que nos deja pensando, ¿porque dejamos tanto t iempo pasar sin comunicarnos?

En el Evangel io, Jesús nos dice que él es la vid y nosotros somos las ramas (Juan 15:1-8). Este hermoso pasaje nos recuerda que estamos conectados al

amor más grande que se ha visto en el mundo. También nos recuerda que si esta conexión debe permanecer fuerte y saludable, que es importante que tomemos la iniciat iva para ayudar que esto si se l leve a cabo. De manera que en permanezcamos conectados con Jesús en medio de nuestras vidas ocupadas muchas veces es determinado por las personas y las cosas con las que tenemos contacto más frecuente.

De vez en cuando tal vez nos preguntamos, ¿con quién tenemos esta conexión in nuestras vidas diarias y con quien pasamos nuestro t iempo? ¿Esas personas con las que pasamos el t iempo, son personas importantes para nosotros? ¿Cómo pasamos el mayor parte del t iempo?trabajando, estudiando, orando, cuidando a nuestros niños, mandando textos, jugando, hablando por teléfono, en el internet, mirando la televisión? ¿Qué es lo que vemos en la televisión, leemos o escuchamos?

Las conexiones que hacemos en di ferentes áreas de nuestras vidas nos pueden acercar o distanciar de Jesús. Estas conexiones pueden intensi ficar nuestra conciencia de lo que está pasando en nuestras vidas personales y en nuestro alrededor. También nos puede distraer de ver lo que necesi ta nuestra atención. Podemos estar frenéticos y dispersos en hacer conexiones con estímulos que no son como nosotros y no nos permi ten ver lo desconectados que estamos del sufrimiento y las injusticias del mundo más grande.

Tal vez es t iempo de hacer esa conexión con Dios nuevamente, con las personas que amamos, con personas que sufren, con lo bueno y lo bel lo del mundo. Siempre es t iempo de dejar que Jesús, la Vid verdadera, ayudarnos hacer esas conexiones.

Actualmente el programa está en búsqueda de voluntarios para recoger comida de di ferentes lugares en el Condado de Orange. Los días de la semana varían al igual que los horarios. Las personas haciendo este importante trabajo deben:

- Ser mayores de 18 años- Tener carro propio- Hacer un compromiso a un día y un horario- Estar dispuesto a tomar un curso de entrenamiento del Manejo de Al imentos
