Some other activities in the ice festival are the ice garden, the
heart of Harbinand the ice lantern contest. The heart of Harbin is
a colorfulsensation which is carved like a giant castle. The Ice
Garden iswhen people make sculptures so colorful, it looks like a
garden ofcolors. The ice and snow festival also has a cartoon
week.Some people say the highlights to see are The Grand World of
Ice Sun island Park Dance Show on Ice Mias world tour of the ice

City of Ice The people of China call Harbin the City of Ice.
The festivals in Harbin are held the 5 of Januaryto the end of
February. However, the exhibits mayopen earlier and stay up longer.
But not too long wedon t want the sculptures to melt! The festival
is established in 1985. The first ice and snow festivalwas held
1963. People vist the ice and snow world atthe opening ceremonony
of the 2013 internaitionalice and snow festival in Harbin.

Ice and Snow The most common ice sculpture is a castle. If you
are brave enough you can make a huge snow sculpture. Snow is
harderto carve than ice because it is more fragile. People that
carvesnow are working on one sculpture for about ten years. That
ishow hard it is! Some people that carve ice make slides which
areopen to the public. Tip if you go on the slide you will be
freezing!

Fun Facts The ice and snow festivals ice took at least one and
a half yearsor more to make. The ice festival gets to about -40
degrees F! You have to wear atleast two coats. The ice and snow
festival started in 1963. 2013 was the 29 th annual festival. In
the ice they use L.E.D lights. People say that when they go that
are freezing but it is worthit. The Chinese ice and snow festival
is the biggest ice festival inthe world.
