Ferdinand Magellan- Spanish Explorer- his crew was the first European to circumnavigate the globe (go around the world)
Had to cross the Atlantic then took a month to get through the Straits of Magellan at the southern tip of South America
Magellan got into a fight with natives in Philippines and was killed His crew continued home to Spain- 18 of the original 250 crew
members survived the three year voyageAmerigo Vespucci- Italian who sailed on Spanish ships-his notes were entertaining and a mapmaker used his name to label the new continents of North and South America
