HOSPITAL VISITATION MINISTRY Volunteers Needed for November - December 2016
The Hospital Visitation ministry team needs additional volunteers to assist in this ministry. Each member of the team takes a week at a time and visits
hospitalized Centerville Baptist Church family and friends or those having
surgery by making a short visit and having prayer with them. It is our goal to have at least 8 members on the team. At this time we have only 5 members.
Please consider joining us for a rewarding experience of being the hands and feet of Jesus. For additional information about this ministry team, please
contact Cordy Beasley at 407-0758 or [email protected].
Brian’s Bit
Brian’s Bit By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was going to receive as an inheritance… He lived in tents along with Isaac and Jacob, who were coheirs of the same promise. He was looking forward to a city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. Hebrews 11:8-10
Faith is a journey, and a journey is a series of steps. Each step forward requires us to renew our commitment to
trust and follow God. Along the way, the terrain may change, thus changing what our next steps may look like, but the ongoing commitment remains. At its best, Church is a community of believers on a faith journey, moving towards God’s future together.
This month, Centerville kicks off its Next Steps campaign! The premise of the campaign is simple. We believe that everyone connected with Centerville can make one to three new commitments for 2017 (or even sooner). Until Thanksgiving, we will share stories from Centerville’s life and provide concrete opportunities for you to commit to that life in new ways. Look for these stories and opportunities in worship, online, and through other channels.
The church-related commitments we’re highlighting fall under six headings, six steps. We will have a Sunday devoted to each step, and we will provide more details regarding the commitments along the way. Look for important information on our web site or, if you have questions or are considering your “steps”, feel free to contact me ([email protected]; 540-220-4376). 1. “Step of Belonging” A. Profession of faith B. Request for baptism C. Request for church membership D. Signing up for a “This is Centerville” class (first round of classes start early 2017) 2. “Step of Growth” A. Commit to joining a Sunday school class B. Commit to signing up for a class on calling (first round of classes start early 2017) C. Commit to joining a class on spiritual gifts (first round of classes start early 2017) 3. “Step of Friendship” A. Commit to mentoring folks in an area of your giftedness B. Request to seek mentoring from someone C. Commit to forming an intentional faith friendship with others in the church (even as simple as having a meal with another individual or family) 4. “Step of Serving” A. Commit to joining a ministry team B. Commit to joining a committee or office C. Commit to joining a deacon team D. Commit to joining a worship group E. Commit to joining another area of service at Centerville 5. “Step of Giving” A. Commit to raising tithes and offerings by a certain percentage point B. Commit to a one-time donation 6. “Exploring Your Steps” A. Request an informal pastor conversation with Kevin or Brian to explore your next step(s) B. Request a formal coaching agreement with Brian to explore your next step(s)
Whether we respond to the specific Centerville-related commitments of Next Steps or we respond to some other calling of God, we all have the wonderful opportunity to move forward in faith.
Blessings, Brian Harfst [email protected]
October is designated as Pastor appreciation month.
During this month Pastors Kevin and Brian, your
Centerville Family wishes to acknowledge the many
blessings you and your families have given our church.
Your sermons and classes are thoughtful and relevant.
The care you demonstrate to our congregation and its
ministries; such as worship, community care, children
and youth shows us how God’s love changes people.
Centerville thanks you and your wives, Lynnette and
Zipper, for all you do to make our church family a
beacon that shines God’s love in Chesapeake.
Happy Fall To All,
The Extended Child Care Ministry has fallen right back into the school routine. We have welcomed new families and said goodbye to a few, due to family transfers. Our classes are full and homework time is jam packed! As always volunteer help in the classroom for homework is appreciated. If anyone has a few hours a week to spare and would like to volunteer please contact the office.
