NATURE is the inspiration, the motivation, and the foundation of my design aesthetic. My aim is to extract the beauty of nature and the utility of modern design to produce an environment than anyone can inherently understand. Finding the balance of a seemingly simplistic yet defiantly complex structure and mimicing organic colors & textures is my interpretation of the natural world around us.
DESIGN has the ability to evoke emotion, influence movement, and interpret thoughts. My mission is to ingnite users’ passions and be an innovative space for new thought.

The site was researched to see how best the surrounding grounds could be repurposed to welcome the community
of West Haven to the university for workshops, presentations, tours, etc.
Accessibility for commuting visitors,
faculty & students and walkability was another factor accounted for. Providing
direct access to the downtown area would enable students to interact, gain experience, and establish relationships
with local artists and professionals.
UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVENNew Department of Visual Arts & Design
TASK: Relocate UNH Visual Arts & Design Dept. to central downtown location in West Haven in a pre-exisitng building:
263 Center St. West Haven, CT. 06516
This site was previously a Masonic Temple that was auctioned off to the city. The challenge was to incorporate elements of its’ historic nature while redesigning from a gutted shell to satisfy the needs of the Visual Arts & Design department.

By providing collaborative spaces users could learn and interact with each other, while offering department specific areas students would have stability to produce independent work.
By moving visual art departments to downtown areas students will be woven into the fabric of the local community while opportunities to restore and preserve historic buildings become available. The existing building, once a masonic temple, provides elements that are key to understanding Masonic roots. By incorporating these characteristics, such as significant colors, their history will be preserved.

Knowing the condition of the building presented opportunities to keep, replace or update areas. Bricks and cement that were replaced would become of use as gravel in the green spaces to act as a natural drainage layer. Dug out court spaces located off of the basement classrooms offer opportunities for outside lessons as well as a new source of penetrating light.

Task: - Investigate (2) public libraries and how each layouts effect users’. - Research surrounding site including: demographics, public transportation, climate, etc. - Design a public library that may incorporate additional communal areas. Minimum space to be utilized: any three complete floors out of the 12 story building.
*The 10th-12th stories were chosen, as well as a portion of the flat rooftop. Additional areas such as a cafe and museum were designed in conjuction with the library.

Half shelves throughout the library for easy visibility between “layers” or rows, as well as to the city scape.
An escape to the rooftop terrace for lounging, snacking, and sightseeing.
GOALS:1. To establish connections from across the table to across the world.2. To provide a solution to the variety of users needs in one space.3. To establish a sense of community by creating a haven for eager learners, thinkers, etc.4. To produce a harmonious space between nature and human structure.5. To become a place of reliability and stability by continuously updating its’ facility.6. To enable anyone to better themselves academically, morally, or mentally.
PROGRESSION LAYERS NATURE
Glass tiled floors with visibility to the public computers and research section of the floors lends this library a fanciful air.
With multiple glass surfaces, this research area seems even more expansive and unrestrained; mimcing the ideal process of learning.
A Daily Retreat:Residential Remodel for Universal Design & Aging in Place
TASK: Design Residential home given an exterior shell including: - Pottery Studio - Quiet Office - Open plan for entertaining
CONCEPT: Movement & ClarityThe design will be flowing, pure, and clean; like a mystical veil formed by cascading water.
Clean sleek lines paired with organice elements are the inspiration for the design of the Jones’ home. Through the comfort of shelter and purification of nature, relief from the stresses of life outside the home will be possible. This structure will be a residential retreat that will interact with the human senses of sight and touch in a way that will establish a get-away for its’ inhabitants.

Work Hard, Play Hard..Under the SunCommerical Office
TASK: Design Commercial Office-Calculate stalls & showers needed per bathroom, calculate how many elevators needed, degree of fire rated walls, and paths of egress based on # of users.-Render in Sketch-up 3+ spaces.
CONCEPT: Within the hotel office space, bright and dynamic materials will be added in contrast to muted organic colors to stimulate the feel-ing of working under a canopy of trees. This canopy will help to shield the work space from direct over exposure to bright sun light as one may experience in a forest. Through integration of sunlight into active work spaces and alternatively controlling light in low energy spaces, the functions of the various rooms will be reflective of their environ-ments. Calming colors, adorning the surfaces of the more quiet areas will demand less attention than that of the more vivid and active areas, promoting reflection and contemplation.
