EARLY RISERS SERVICE TAKES A HIATUS
Our worship planning team as decided to suspend our 8am Early Ris-ers’ Service starting Sunday, December 28. It will resume on Easter, April 5. In essence the decision is to make it a seasonal service. Atten-dance peaked in July and August and has steadily declined in Septem-ber and October. When the service began in March, an October assess-ment was planned. We look forward to continuing the service in April. Our worship schedule will be as follows.

Sunday, November 16 10am in the Chapel
Our church is privileged to host Charlotte Bonelli. She is the Head Archivist of the American Jewish Committee in New York. Ms Bonelli is the author of the acclaimed Exit Berlin and is in Columbus for a series of lectures and appearances at Ohio State, King Avenue, and Jewish or-ganizations. Her visit is sponsored by the Melton Center for Jewish Studies, the Department of History at Ohio State, and King Avenue.
Exit Berlin is unique in that it pre-sents the conversation between American and German Jews in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s as the situation in Germany deteriorates. Usually the American voices are not documented. It tells the true story of a young, immigrant Jewish woman’s effort to save her extended family when she has essentially no re-sources in America.
On Sunday, November 16, at 10am, we shall hear her presentation at King Avenue on “The Importance of the Family during the Holocaust.” Obviously this is a special opportu-nity for our church. Her book will be on sale in the milling area on No-vember 9.

MISSION: CHRISTMAS by Anna Guillozet
It is never too early to start thinking about your Christmas shopping! Join us in sup-porting the 2nd Annual Mission: Christmas at King Avenue. This alternative giving opportunity allows you to simplify your Christmas shopping while supporting King Avenue Missions. For example: In-stead of buying your partner another tie, consider sponsoring 10 meals for the homeless at Gates Fourth Church. Cata-logs will be available in November 23rd,
Thirty individuals have begun to meet weekly with students at the Hubbard Mastery Ele-mentary School to offer them reading practice and coaching as a result of the KAUMC-Hubbard School Partnership. Twenty-three people from KAUMC joined by seven OSU students volunteering through Circle K are meeting with a total of 53 students each week. It’s a great start! Reading Buddy Volunteers report that it is a highly rewarding experience. The children relish the one-on-one time and the school staff truly appreciates the community support for their work! We hope to continue to recruit additional Read-ing Buddies and substitute Reading Buddies throughout the year. If you are interested in becoming a Reading Buddy, contact Rev. Colleen Ogle ([email protected]) or Lois Dosky, Chair of the KAUMC-Hubbard Partnership ([email protected]). It only takes one hour to become trained and there is a regular schedule of training sessions.
