HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE
Mannargudi or Raja Mannarkoil which derives its namefrom the Presiding Deity of the town Sri Rajagopalaswamyis a century old Municipality in the heart of the old undividedThanjavur District and which is now one of the importanttowns of Thiruvarur district.
Our College has taken the name of Sri SengamalaThayaar, the Divine Consort of Sri Rajagopalaswamy.Though there is one Government College in Mannargudi, theneed for an exclusive women’s college has always beenkeenly felt. Swami Vivekananda said to Indian women thatthey should light up the lamp of knowledge and becomefearless, compassionate and large hearted and acquirepractical efficiency. As women prove their efficiency in variousfields, including the Air Force, our founder Late. SrimathiKrishnaveni, wife of Late. Sri Vivekanandan, decided to fulfillthe long felt educational need of the people of Mannargudiand its surrounding taluks.
Our Managing Trustee Dr. V. Dhivaharan as his nameindicates has brought light to educate the women especiallyto dispel the darkness of ignorance. Dr. V. Dhivaharan whoseeducational ideas are firmly rooted in the traditional cultureof our country is a man of eminence and an epitome ofefficiency. The College was started on 27-08-1994 becauseof his tireless hard work.
The College has as its motto “ARISE AWAKE ANDSTOP NOT TILL THE GOAL IS REACHED”, one of the worldfamous utterances of Swami Vivekananda who was born toregenerate India. The College will Prove Worthy of such anoble motto. The students will prove themselves to be thestrong pillars of a glorious future in India.
