2016–17 California Alternate Assessment Practice Test Scoring Guide 1
Guide Content The California Alternate Assessment (CAA) for English Language Arts/Literacy (ELA) Practice Test Scoring Guide for Grade Eleven is a companion document to the online grade eleven CAA for ELA practice test. It provides details about the items and the correct responses on the practice test. The items on the practice tests are designed to contain the following information:
Broad coverage of content that closely mirrors the summative blueprint
A variety of student response types
Breadth of difficulty levels ranging from easier to more difficult items
What are the differences between practice tests and training tests?
Practice tests are designed to allow educators and students to experience grade-level test content.
Training tests are designed to allow educators and students to gain experience with different item response types that a student may encounter on the CAAs. There are no scoring guides for the training tests.
This scoring guide provides the following item-by-item information for the grade eleven practice test items:
Item—the item sequence number within the practice test
Grade—the grade level for the item
Domain—the broad content area being assessed by the item (e.g., Geometry)
Connector (Core Content Connector)—the specific alternative achievement standard being assessed by the item (Each Connector is linked to a Common Core State Standard.)
Tier—the level of item complexity, with Tier 1 being least complex and Tier 3 being most complex
Test question—the prompt that asks students to show what they know and can do.
Key—the correct student response to the item.
Rubric—the score points related to each item and sample correct responses.
