Chapter 2: Prepare to Install Software

This section contains the following topics:

Plan Your Installation (see page 9) Determine Installation Method (see page 10) Prepare Servers (see page 10) Database Connectivity (see page 11) Database Sizing (see page 11) How Product Components Are Installed (see page 13) Typical Installation Worksheet (see page 14) Custom Installation Worksheet (see page 15)

Plan Your Installation

Planning an implementation of CA Server Automation requires creating strategies for the following:

■ Networks and IP addresses

■ Databases

■ Hosts and virtual machines

■ Image creation and capture for provisioning

■ Policies

■ Job scheduling

■ Reports

■ Users

To plan your implementation, review the following documentation:

■ Release Notes for software and hardware requirements, and prerequisites

■ Administration Guide for configuration and management

■ Other CA product integration requirements

Page 10: CA Server Automation Installation Guide

Determine Installation Method

10 Installation Guide

Determine Installation Method

You can install the product software using an installation wizard or command line (silent installation). See the Release Notes for disk space requirements.

Review the following installation methods to determine which one suits your implementation.

Installation Wizard

■ Typical method installs the full set of components that are supported on your system; it skips most configuration options and uses default settings. The Typical method cannot be used to reinstall the product or if a prior version is detected.

■ Custom method lets you install all software components (including integrations to other CA products) or specific components.

■ Typical and Custom methods let you skip components and configure them later. After installation, use the dpmutil command line interface, or the Administration page in the user interface.

■ Both Typical and Custom methods install basic reporting tools for predefined reports.

Silent Installation

■ Requires that you create property files.

■ Starts the installation from a command line.

Prepare Servers

To prepare servers for installation, verify the following items:

■ The servers you select to host the software meet the requirements for supported hardware, operating systems, browsers, and software.

Verification includes servers for installing the CA Server Automation product, integration tools and adapters, and other CA products.

Note: For information about requirements, see the Release Notes.

■ You have a working DNS server.

If you are using DHCP for IP address assignment, configure the DHCP server to update the DNS server dynamically.

■ The Java Quick Test Pro (QTP) plug-in does not reside on the installation server.

■ Antivirus programs on the server are stopped before installation.

■ You have created a backup for all systems and databases using a snapshot, ghost image, or other appropriate mechanism.

Page 11: CA Server Automation Installation Guide

Database Connectivity

Chapter 2: Prepare to Install Software 11

Database Connectivity

CA Server Automation uses Microsoft SQL Server as its database. To connect to the database, identify the following information:

■ SQL Server hostname (local or remote)

■ SQL Server Instance (named or default)

■ SQL Server TCP/IP Port (used by that instance)

Confirm the following information for SQL Server:

■ Meets the minimum version specifications in the Release Notes

■ Has TCP/IP enabled

■ Has remote connections enabled

■ Has the authentication mode that you plan to use enabled (mixed mode or Windows mode)

■ Uses a static TCP/IP port for the instance that you plan to use (dynamic is not supported)

■ Does not have existing databases named AOM2 or DPM

Confirm the following information for the SQL Server client:

■ Meets the minimum version specifications in the Release Notes

■ Has an entry in the system PATH (otherwise, CA Server Automation does not recognize SQL Server is installed)

■ Has OSQL.EXE and SQLCMD.EXE in one of the system PATH entries

Database Sizing

During installation, you have the option of selecting a database size for CA Server Automation. Selecting an appropriate size based on the number of managed computer systems reduces the negative performance impact of a database with continual growth.

The following chart represents the approximate growth you can expect for the number of computer systems CA Server Automation manages. When you add computer systems, it can take up to ten days for the database growth to level off for those additional systems.

How Product Components Are Installed

Chapter 2: Prepare to Install Software 13

How Product Components Are Installed

Both Typical and Custom installations provide default settings that result in a centralized installation, with the product components installed on a single Windows server. If your site requires it, you can install some components (for example, AIMs and Autoshell) across multiple servers using the Custom installation method. However, the Automation Manager framework is not distributable.

To distribute components across more than one server, follow these requirements:

■ If components are installed across firewalls, open the communication ports.

■ Install the Microsoft SQL Management Tools (OSQL, BCP) on the SQL Server database.

■ Use the same authentication type (Windows or SQL Server) for the Management Database and the Performance Database.

■ Synchronize all server clocks.

Software Delivery Adapter

You can install the Software Delivery Adapter on a standalone system, but CA Server Automation must first be installed on a different system. Follow these steps to install the Software Delivery Adapter after CA Server Automation is installed on another system:

1. Start the installation wizard.

2. On the Choose Install Set panel, select Custom.

3. On the Choose Features to Install panel, select Software Delivery Adapter.

4. On the following panels, enter the CA Server Automation system authentication information:

■ Management Database

■ CA Embedded Entitlements Manager (EEM)

■ Service Controller Location

■ Apache ActiveMQ Message Broker

Important! The CA Server Automation system authentication information must be entered correctly on the panels or the installation fails. The installation wizard does not validate the CA Server Automation system authentication information.

Chapter 3: Install Software

This section contains the following topics:

Start the Installation Wizard (see page 31) Start a Silent Installation (see page 32) Start the User Interfaces and Documentation (see page 33) Change the Default Login Credentials (see page 33) Component Installation after Initial Installation (see page 33) Uninstall Software (see page 34)

Start the Installation Wizard

When you have configured the communication ports and gathered all server credentials, you are ready to start installing the product.

To start the installation wizard

1. Access the installation media.

2. Navigate to the drive:DVD1/Installers/Windows

3. Click Install.exe.

The installation begins. After the installation completes, a record of the installation is created in: install_path\log\install. The file, install.log, contains all output and errors; install_error_detected.log is generated for specific error conditions.

Note: Passwords entered during installation are temporarily stored on the hard disk in unencrypted format; they are removed after installation.

Page 32: CA Server Automation Installation Guide

Start a Silent Installation

32 Installation Guide

Start a Silent Installation

A CA Server Automation silent installation consists of editing property files and starting the installation from a command line.

Note: Systems running Windows x64 operating systems are not supported for silent installation.

To start a silent installation

1. Verify that the target system meets the requirements defined in the Release Notes.

2. Navigate to the root directory of the installation media, and copy all folders to the target system.

Important! Preserve the directory structure on the installation media when copying the files to the target system.

3. On the target system, open the DVD1\ResponseFileTemplates folder.

4. Open the silent.properties file using a text editor.

5. Update the necessary sections, but do not remove sections of the file, even if they are not used.

6. Edit and save the file.

7. Open a Command Prompt window, navigate to the \Windows\ directory, and enter the following command:

install.exe -i silent -f <path_to_silent.properties_file>\silent.properties

8. Review the Install.log file for errors and warnings after the installation is complete.

Start the User Interfaces and Documentation

Chapter 3: Install Software 33

Start the User Interfaces and Documentation

After a successful installation, you can start the user interfaces and the product documentation.

To start the user interfaces

1. Select Windows Start, All Programs, CA, CA Server Automation, Launch CA Server Automation, or enter the URL in a supported browser:

■ CA Server Automation: https://ip_address:port_number/UI

■ Reservation Manager: https://ip_address:port_number/ssrm

The login page appears.

2. Enter the user name and password, and click Login. Default: admin/ca_admin

Note: At logon, if you receive a security certificate request, bypass it and continue. To eliminate security certificate messages, you can acquire a certificate from the vendor of your choice and apply it to the server. For information about installing security certificates, see the Apache Tomcat website.

The interface appears.

Note: A Flash plug-in is required to display diagrams and charts.

To start the documentation and online help, select Windows Start, All Programs, CA, CA Server Automation, Bookshelf. All guides are available in HTML and PDF; the online help is available in HTML only. You can perform a full-text search across all guides and help.

Change the Default Login Credentials

If you installed CA Server Automation using the Typical installation path, change the default credentials in CA EEM for administrators (admin/ca_admin), and the password (ca_admin) for the EiamAdmin.

To access CA EEM for managing users and groups, go to Start, All Programs, CA, Embedded Entitlements Manager, EEM UI.

Component Installation after Initial Installation

Run the installation program after the initial installation to install new components within the same product. Running the installation program after initial installation does not reinstall existing components, and does not repair or configure existing components with new data.

Page 34: CA Server Automation Installation Guide

Uninstall Software

34 Installation Guide

Uninstall Software

Uninstall CA Server Automation using these methods:

■ Wizard

Go to Windows Start, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, CA Server Automation, Change/Remove. The wizard guides you through the uninstall.

■ Command line

Go to: C:\Program Files\CA\productname\Uninstall\Uninstall.exe

Important! Removing individual product components is not recommended; the product does not function properly when components are removed. Only a complete uninstall of the product is supported.

Note: The uninstall does not remove shared components that existed on the system before the installation of this product.

Appendix A: Troubleshooting 35

Appendix A: Troubleshooting

This section contains the following topics:

CA DSM Functionality is Not Fully Supported (see page 35) Installation Problems: General (see page 36) Installation Stops Responding After Remote Desktop Interruption (see page 36) Installation With Rapid Server Imaging Fails (see page 36) Installation Program Continues After Cancellation (see page 37) CA Software Delivery is Not Enabled for Installation (see page 37) Microsoft SQL Server Error (see page 37) UNC Path Error When Not Using Built-In Administrator Account (see page 38)

CA DSM Functionality is Not Fully Supported

Symptom:

Not all CA Desktop and Server Management (CA DSM) functionality is available in CA Server Automation.

Solution:

Review the following unsupported features:

■ GETIMAGE for ImageX

■ Microsoft Automated Deployment Services (ADS)

■ Cluster Fail Over

■ Software Job Prioritization

■ Platform Virtualization

■ Windows Embedded for Point of Service (WEPOS)

■ Backup and restore model computers

Page 36: CA Server Automation Installation Guide

Installation Problems: General

36 Installation Guide

Installation Problems: General

Symptom:

The installation wizard disappears after the first progress bar, Apache Tomcat does not start, or other installation problems.

Solution:

Systemwide _JAVA_OPTIONS environment variables cause conflicts with CA Server Automation. Unset the variables, or set them at an application level, and restart the installation.

Installation Stops Responding After Remote Desktop Interruption

Symptom:

The installation program stops responding after a Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) interruption. More Command Prompt windows open on the desktop.

Solution:

If you connect to a remote system using RDC, and the connection is interrupted during an installation or the CTRL key is intentionally or inadvertently pressed, the installation process stops responding. To work around the issue, close any open Command Prompt windows and continue the installation.

Installation With Rapid Server Imaging Fails

Symptom:

The installation program fails without an indication of the problem.

Solution:

If you are installing the Rapid Server Imaging (RSI) component and the installation fails, follow these steps:

1. Verify that you have a valid Racemi DynaCenter license.

2. Run the rshowlicense command on the RSI server.

3. Verify that the Apache HTTP Server services and SAMBA services are running on the RSI server.

Page 37: CA Server Automation Installation Guide

Installation Program Continues After Cancellation

Appendix A: Troubleshooting 37

Installation Program Continues After Cancellation

Symptom:

If you cancel the installation program before the first installation dialog, the progress bar disappears, the product is not installed, but the installation program continues unpacking files to completion. This process can cause a temporary decrease in CPU performance.

Solution:

When the installation program completes unpacking files, the temporary directory and files are deleted, and the system is unchanged.

CA Software Delivery is Not Enabled for Installation

Symptom:

During a Typical or Custom installation, CA Software Delivery is not enabled for selection, or you select CA Software Delivery and get the following message:

CA Software Delivery cannot be installed because IT Client Manager (ITCM) is not

configured for the English language.

Solution:

CA Software Delivery does not support foreign languages. To reconfigure the CA ITCM Domain Manager for English, perform the following tasks:

1. Open a Command Prompt window on the CA ITCM Domain Manager.

2. Stop the CA ITCM Domain Manager.

caf stop

3. Change the language to English using this command:

ccnfcmda -cmd SetParameterValue -ps itrm/common/localization -pn language -v enu

4. Restart the CA ITCM Domain Manager.

caf start

Microsoft SQL Server Error

Symptom:

During authentication of the Microsoft SQL Server credentials during installation, the following error appears:

Failed to establish connection to MSSQL.

Page 38: CA Server Automation Installation Guide

UNC Path Error When Not Using Built-In Administrator Account

38 Installation Guide

Solution:

This error occurs because the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and 2008 Evaluation Edition was detected, and TCP/IP is disabled. Configure the server to listen on a specific TCP port.

UNC Path Error When Not Using Built-In Administrator Account

Symptom:

On Windows 2008 R2 when not using a Built-in Administrator account, the install fails with an error message indicating the drive is a UNC path or that insufficient permissions exist to execute the install. This problem occurs if you attempt the install from a mapped drive with a client defined Administrator.

Solution:

To resolve this issue, perform the following tasks:

1. Open a CMD prompt as the Administrator and run the following commands:

Net use Z: \\DVD-IMAGE-PATH

CD /d Z:

2. Run the Setup.hta program (right-click the program name and select Run as Administrator)

Note: On Windows 2008 R2 and above, launch CA Server Automation and any related programs and utilities using the Run as Administrator option.
