SAT-OCEAN at a glance Incorporated in 2001 by a pool of oceanographers, SAT-OCEAN has built its know-how on a substantial scientific background. Satellite experts, physical oceanographers and weather specialists have been contributing for more than a decade to the development of state of the art current, wind and waves hindcast and forecast systems, yielding concrete foundations of the services provided today. From the beginning, SAT-OCEAN has put great efforts into satellite data processing. As modeling ocean currents is a very tricky playground, we focus on the quality of the satellite data we drive our models with. Sticking to ground truth is our daily objective. For that purpose, SAT-OCEAN performs whenever possible comparisons between its historical and forecast deliverables with simultaneous on site measurements (ADCP, current meters, wave buoys or anemometers): we consider that approach as a baseline to build relationships of trust with our customers. Based on the metocean information produced, we are designing value-added products dedicated to routing, drilling, spill response, seismic and renewable-energy related services. As an answer to our clients’ end-users constraints and requirements (rig managers, masters, chief navigators, captains, engineers, HSE Managers or naval architects), our services are easy to use, efficient, “software-free” and fully web-delivered. Today, SAT-OCEAN provides weather and oceanographic services to the O&G and marine industries worldwide. Our customers take advantage of proven and efficient services to secure their operations at sea, improve performance or save time. They also benefit from our studies for operations planning, design or risk assessment.

SAT-OCEAN Hindcast services SAT-OCEAN, taking benefit from its expertise in satellite data analysis and numerical modeling, provides historical statistical studies (hindcast) for ocean current, wind & waves. Our products include 3D currents, winds and waves information based on the most recent 2 to 10 years history such that operators and contractors can gain a thorough understanding of metocean conditions on site.
Typical applications include operations planning, riser & rig design, field development studies, downtime analysis or pipe laying, ocean current-wind-waves data mining for renewable energy related operations (site choice). SAT-OCEAN provides the following current, wind &waves deliverables: · Compass plots (monthly, yearly, …) · Multi-directional extreme derivation for 1, 10 and 100 year-return · Joint distributions (e.g. monthly or yearly current magnitude vs. direction) · Statistics table : persistence, occurrence, exceedance, ... · Maps presenting averages and standard deviations (e.g. surface current) · Current steadiness factor, waves steepness and numerous statistics upon request.

SAT-OCEAN Routing services SAT-OCEAN provides an innovative routing service enabling for
significant time and energy savings.
Our solution is going beyond traditional weather routing which is mainly concerned with winds and waves. The main differentiator lies in the inclusion of our own very high resolution ocean current forecast in the routing process. This enables both safety of the ships by taking into account winds and waves forecast but also significant overall speed gains with associated time and fuel savings. Our customers are towing companies (rig/FPSO mobilization, moves, new builds), heavy lifters, tankers or container-carriers.

“Just to say again we have been really impressed with the service you have provided under a short time period and over the festive season. Thank you! “
OSRL Project Manager
“We want to thank you for your responsiveness, your availability and especially for the quality of data. Our model outputs have always been relatively close to reality, and that's largely thanks to your current and wind datasets. Thanks again.“
