Tip 1: Keep it simple
No matter what you're looking for,try to start with a simple search.Add a few descriptive words ifnecessary. If you're looking for aplace or product in a specificlocation, add the town or zip code.

Tip 2: Use web friendly words
Use words that are most likely toappear on websites.
For example, instead of saying myhead hurts, say headache,
because thats the term a medicalsite would use.

Tip 3: Dont worry about the little
things
Spelling.Google's spell checkerautomatically uses the most commonspelling of a given word, whether or not
you spell it correctly.
Capital letters.A search for New York
Times is the same as a search for newyork times.
Punctuation.Most punctuation, like?!,.%^*()[]\,, is ignored when you search.

Tip 4: Find quick answers
For many searches, Google will do thework for you and display an answer righton the search results page immediately
after you type it. Try some of the searchesbelow either by typing or searching byvoice:
Weather. Search weather to see theweather in your location or add a city nameafter weather to find weather in that area.

Dictionary. Put define: in front of anyword to see its definition.
Calculations. Enter a math equation
like 3*9123to see the answer, alongwith a calculator to solve moreproblems, even graphing equations.

Search for an exact word or phrase(-)
Use quotes to search for an exact word orset of words. This option is handy whensearching for song lyrics or a line from
literature.
Example: "imagine all the people"
Tip: Only use this if you're looking for avery precise word or phrase, becauseotherwise you could be excluding helpfulresults by mistake.

Exclude a word (-)
Add a dash (-) before a word or site to exclude allresults that include that word.
This is especially useful for synonyms like Jaguarthe car brand and jaguar the animal.
Ex:jaguar speed -car pandas -site:wikipedia.org
Tip: You can also exclude results based on otheroperators, like excluding all results from aspecific site.

Search within a site ordomain (:)
If you are looking for more results from a certainwebsite, include site: in your query.
For example, you can find all mentions of"olympics" on the New York Times website like
this:

Tip: Also search within a specific top-leveldomain like .org or .edu or country top-leveldomain like .de or .jp.olympics site:.gov

Search for pages that link to a URL(link:)
Using the link: operator, you can find pagesthat link to a certain page.
For example, to find all the pages that link
to google.com. Type:

Tip: You can also search for links tospecific pages:

To find sites that are similar to a URL youalready know, use the related: operator.
For example, when you search for relatedsites to the New York Times, you'll findother news publication sites you may be
interested in.

Fill in the blank (*)
Use an asterisk (*) within a search as aplaceholder for any unknown or wildcardterms.
Tip: Use with quotation marks to findvariations of that exact phrase or toremember words in the middle of a phrase.
Ex: "a * saved is a * earned

A Rupee saved is a Rupee earned

If you want to search for pages that may havejust one of several words, include OR(capitalized) between the words. Without theOR, your results would typically show only

Separate numbers by two periods withoutspaces (..) to see results that containnumbers in a given range of things like
dates, prices, and measurements. Ex:
