Welcome to theBakersville UnitedMethodist Church

119 S. Mitchell Ave.Bakersville, NC 28705

Our History:

The first group of Methodists inBakersville was organized in 1871 &

they called themselves “The Bakersville Missionary Society.” This group met in

an old log dwelling place located on Main Street in Bakersville on property where the home of Dr. A.E. Gouge is

now located.

They met at this location & under the name of “The Bakersville Missionary Society” until sometime around 1879.

At this time a church building was constructed on the old Rorison property.

In 1881, the congregation occupied its new building and became “The

Bakersville Station Methodist Episcopal South.”

In the flood of 1901, it was washed away & another church was built on the same property which served the congregation

until 1929.

The need for a new building arose in 1929 & so it was built on Mitchell Ave., which is now used by the congregation. The membership has come from many former Methodist Churches in the area, as a result we became the Bakersville

United Methodist Church.
