FLEXX Urban 2000Kassel, Germany
With the most comprehensive bogie portfolio in theworld, our BOMBARDIER* FLEXX bogies offerreliable and safe products for all market segmentsand types of rolling stock. We are the partners ofchoice for providing innovative solutions to meettransportation challenges around the globe.
FLEXX Urban for Trams and Light Rail Vehicles
Trams and Light Rail Vehicles are configured for ease ofaccessibility and convenience for the urban traveller.Specialist tram bogies enable these features through theircompatibility with low floor levels. Particular attention is paidto maintenance aspects such as enabling long wheel livesas well as the impact on the environment e.g. minimizedvibration and noise emissions even within tight curves.

FLEXX Metro for Metros and Mass Transit Applications
Currently more than 20,000 FLEXX Metro Bogies are inservice worldwide, which have accumulated over 30 billionkm (Equivalent to 200 times the distance between theEarth and the Sun).
Maximum vehicle capacity utilization with minimum energyconsumption levels are enabled by light weight bogies. The railway infrastructure is often as varied as the citiesthey serve, therefore the bogie solutions have to reflectthese distinctions, e.g adopting radial steering or inboardbearing designs.
Metro bogies have to be reliable and robust in theirdesign. Reliability is guaranteed by simplicity and the useof proven technology. Safety is enhanced through the useof special frame designs, i.e articulated or structurallyflexible frames.

FLEXX Power for High Speed and Heavy Haul Locomotives
… are the power packs of the trains. The FLEXX PowerBogies have to be as robust and reliable as the locomotivethat they support. Special attention is given to the properstructural configuration of the frames as they are highlystressed by the locomotive’s traction forces and the forcesexerted by the integrated traction equipment.
Different speed ranges require the appropriate drive systemselection. In particular with high speed locomotives, theclever integration of the motors and the drives units into thebogie is a prerequisite for successful operation.
The FLEXX Power bogie family design is characterized by:• Flexibility by adaptable wheelset guidance and coil
spring suspension • High tractive effort by low level traction link • Low weight integrated welded frame design

Product Development
In order to overcome the limitations of conventionalbogies with passive steering and suspensionelements, a mechatronic bogie design has been developed.
Mechatronics in the bogie provide unique newfunctionalities:
• Active radial steering (ARS) and bogie stabilization • Active comfort improvement• Tilting• Intelligent condition monitoring
Careful testing, safety analysis and certification guaranteethat only proven design will be delivered. The first bogiesequipped with FLEXX Tronic technology were tested on a BOMBARDIER* REGINA* train in cooperation withSwedish partner Bankverkert within the “Green Train”project. In July 2007, they set a new Swedish record of282 km/h and passed a prerequisite test for certificationand the upcoming service tests for 200 km/h.
