Boy Scout Troop 111The Year in Review
With the holidays upon us we take time out to review our activities for 2013
ur young men continue to make us proud!
We have a small group compared to most Ohio
Scout troops and patrols. We currently do not have a feeder
group of Cub scouts. That is one of our goals for the coming year.
Having said that, we need to talk about the motivation, dedication
and accomplishments of our young men , both in and around the
community!
Christopher McCoy is attending Chaminade Julienne high school.
He is an aspiring and accomplished high school actor. He is one
of the top ten breast stroke swimmers in the region! His mother is
Lanetta McCoy who is another involved parent of the Scouts. He
is our latest EAGLE SCOUT. When most scouts have achieved
this extremely difficult and demanding goal, the journey is
complete. Mr McCoy has not stopped being a dedicated scout
and is striving to attain the prestigious level of PALMS! We are
grateful for his desire to continue to represent us so well!
Our Senior Patrol Leader is Redmond Thornhill. Redmonds
father is Craig Thornhill. Mr. Thornhill is our Advancement Chair
and a dedicated and loving father . He is employed with _ and as
such is a boon to the continuing education of the local community.
His son Redmond attends DECCA high school and loves graphic
arts studies.
Michael Matthews is one of our Patrol Leaders. His father is
Clifton Matthews Who is the latest Scout Master to take
mentorship of the Scouts. Mr. Matthews work takes him all
around the world which makes him highly qualified to open the
Scouts horizons in our global view of the world community.
Michael goes to Ponitz high school and during the summer he
is attending the Wright Stepp program and is working on
achieving a scholarship at Wright State University! He is
currently in the engineering program.
The other members of our Scout organization are as follows:
Justice is a Patrol Leader and Journey Shepard. Their mother is
Tyra Shepard who is another dedicated parent. She is also
continuing her education and is using the Scouts for her college
project!
Benjamin Moore is another fine Scout. His Mother is Sharon
Moore. She works in the medical field. She is a dedicated parent
who has her hands full taking care of her extended family!
O
S we celebrate the season, take time to remember those less fortunate and needy. The Scouts
do this each year by adopting families with the cooperation of St. Vincent De Paul homeless
shelter.
We coordinate and canvas the local community to help make the holidays for those less fortunate a
little brighter and less stressful. We know that these young men enjoy this activity each year!

Each year at Woodland Trails Summer Camp there is a
cooking competition similar to Iron Chef on TV. Scouts are
given basic food supplies and compete using the scout
tools they came with. This is usually Dutch ovens and pans
and eating utensils.
Some of the food stuffs supplied to all participants were
onions, carrots, shaved ham or turkey, and red potatoes,.
Our scouts did the food preparation while paying attention
to food safety and cleanliness, cooked the food, prepared
the dishes, and presented the food and the menu concept
to the judges.
After all of the waiting and tension. Boy Scout Troop 111
got first place in the competition! The Scouts represented
you well!

Here is a list of some of the Merit badges that the Scouts
earned while at summer camp. It took a lot of drive and self
motivation to get this all done in one week!
The Scouts were challenged with demonstrating skills
involving Citizenship in the nation and community, cooking,
leather work, climbing, starting a fire, boating, swimming,
navigating, shooting, fishing skills, plant and tree
identification, knife and hatchet skills, and many more
skills. They were up and moving from early morning till
dinner time or later!
Merit badges earned while at camp. This is where the Scouts have to be very motivated!
