DEAR FRIENDS OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION,Welcome to The Big Apple, a wonderful celebration of and for the Bishop Garrigan family. Because of the hard work and continued efforts of our many volunteers, Gala 2018 is here!
This past year has brought more amazing excitement. Through a very generous estate gift and other wonderful people stepping forward, a new all-weather track is under construction and should be completed this year. Our chapel project has seen much progress with initial drawings, many items saved from St. Benedict Parish, and funding started.
However, the students give us the most excitement. This year has seen outstanding athletics, drama, music and academics that have risen to state and national levels. This is what makes Bishop Garrigan special. As we continue on this journey together, it is our hope and prayer that students of all ages from our region will always have the opportunity and the choice for a Catholic faith-based education.
Last but definitely not least, this evening is also a time to pause, to reflect, and to give thanks to the Lord for the many blessings with which God has graced us. May Gala 2018 be filled with the spirit of the Lord’s peace and love as well as generosity towards the continued vision of Bishop Garrigan Schools.
LYNN MILLER, PRESIDENTBISHOP GARRIGAN SCHOOLS
WELCOME TO GALA 2018 THE BIG APPLE! Thank you for joining us for this annual event to support the Bishop Garrigan School System. As we gather for the 29th year of Gala, we focus on the reason that we are here tonight. We are all here because we believe in Catholic-centered education for our young people. Christ our risen Lord is our example of the perfect educator. We believe that education is not only based on excellence in academics and activities, but more importantly, on the individual development of a life-long personal faith life.
We would also like to thank everyone who helped to make this event possible. Without support from administration, staff, students, committee members, community members and volunteers this celebration would not be possible. It takes countless hours and much dedication from everyone to truly make this night a success. THANK YOU!
We are united in our strong belief in Catholic education for our children, and your generous contributions are necessary for continuing their quality, value-centered programs. Enjoy the evening as we celebrate and support the growth of Bishop Garrigan Schools.

THE BIG APPLE, GALA 2018
Welcome to the bright lights and big city of Gala 2018, The Big Apple. As your
event designer, my goal and focus for this year was to transport you into a time
and space that not only reflects a taste of New York City, but also “spreads the
news” of Bishop Garrigan Schools. I invite you to tap into a “New York state
of mind”, and begin a journey of faith, tradition, and vision as you adventure
across this year’s grand outdoor entrance of the world renowned Brooklyn
Bridge. Continue on and be immersed in the spectacular skyline and big city
sights of the lobby. From here you’ll find yourself in the heart of Central Park,
for tonight you will dine alfresco under the stars. You may find yourself sitting
pretty at an ivory adorned table, picnicking in the fresh green grass, or casually
dining under a Sinatra inspired, iconic, red umbrella. So go ahead, enjoy
the sights, indulge and take a bite of The Big Apple, and let’s make this year
another record breaking Gala!
Cheers!

SILENT & SUPER SILENT RULES
To avoid questions and confusion, the winning bidder should contact the donors of all auction items that require pick-up, delivery, or reservations as soon as possible after the GALA 2018 auction to inform them that you have the winning bid on their item and to make needed arrangements. This is a courtesy that should be extended to all donors. The Super Silent and Silent Auction Tables will be open for bidding at 5:30 pm, April 7, 2018, and will close in ten-minute intervals toward the end of the live auction. The closing bid will be circled by a GALA 2018 official. This will constitute the winning bid. Each item in the Super Silent and Silent Auction has a bid sheet attached to a table nearby. Persons desiring to bid may do so by writing in their name, bidding number and bid on the bid sheet. Use only the bid number assigned to you. This is your identification. Each new bid must be written on the bid sheet in the next available blank space. Each increase in bid must equal or exceed the minimum raise stated on the sheet in order to constitute a valid bid. Silent Auction bids will be disqualified if a minimum raise is not sufficient. Scratching of bids is not allowed. Once a bid has been properly entered on the bid sheet, this is a valid and binding bid. All sales are final! No exchanges or refunds on items except where specified. Absolutely NO exchange for cash.
A GALA 2018 official will disqualify the bid of any person who attempts to block the way of others who wish to bid on the same item or items adjacent to it. If a person’s bid is disqualified, the bid of the person preceding it will be honored. Only a GALA 2018 official may nullify a bid. When an item is not displayed, the purchaser will receive a gift certificate for the promised item. Super Silent and Silent Auction items may be removed only by presenting a paid receipt to a GALA official at the Silent Auction table where the items were originally displayed. All auction items must be removed from the Bishop Garrigan High School gymnasium either immediately following GALA, or between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm, Sunday, April 8, 2018. The Bishop Garrigan Schools GALA 2018 Committee and Friends of Garrigan make no express or implied warranties on auction items other than those from the manufacturer which may be included with your purchase. Values set forth on items being auctioned are the donor’s estimate and are not warranted by GALA 2018 for tax purposes or for general value. Unless otherwise specified, all auction items must be used within one year after April 7, 2018.

I moved with my family to Algona when I was a junior in high school, which
is a difficult age to make a fresh start. However, I found that new friends came
quickly. Walking through the door of Bishop Garrigan High School, the first-
day nerves melted away, and I instantly felt comfortable, welcomed … I felt
at home. The faculty, staff and students took extra efforts to welcome me and
make me a part of the Bishop Garrigan family.
My Bishop Garrigan family has grown. I married a graduate and my children
attend Bishop Garrigan Schools. My business, Kaleidoscope Marketing, has
grown thanks to connections I made through the high school. Friends and
classmates are now clients and professional colleagues. Bishop Garrigan ties
run deep and create powerful, long-lasting relationships.
I’m driven – and happy to – promote the school in any way I can. Working
closely with the Development Office, I have been involved with projects
such as the Annual Appeal and Gala and look forward to many more years of
support and collaboration.
Enjoy your evening in THE BIG APPLE, and thank you for supporting
this school that I love.
