Learning Objectives:
Identify a prokaryotic cell and a eukaryotic cell
differentiate between a prokaryotic cell and a eukaryotic cell
explain the functions of various organelles present in a cell
differentiate between plant cell and animal cell
TASK 1 : PREPARING AND GUESSING RIDDLES
For Learning outcome/outcomes: explain the functions of various organelles present in a cell
Task 1: Step one: The student shall prepare riddles about the functions of various cell organelles and parts of cell.(The teacher shall allocate cell organelles to various groups/individual students) For example:
To manufacture food in plants is my job, I make it myself and do not rob,
I am a member of the plastids group, and contain stroma and grana
and I don’t care for produce per annum
I am the barrier between inside and outside of the cell, I am flexible like gel
I allow useful substances to move in and out It there is a harmful one,
I order it to get out.
I am composed of cisternae and vesicles Which are membrane- bound stacks
Lipids and proteins I am used to pack
I am the control centre in cells
Which are eukaryotic I contain the material
Which has info that is genetic
Activities for Formative Assessment Class IX Biology
Chapter: The Fundamental Unit of Life
Step two The teacher shall ask riddles to another group/individual student in the classroom. Flash Cards of these pictures can be used as hints: PICTURES:

Remedial Measures:
For preparing riddles, if the student is unable to prepare riddles of good quality, the teacher shall assign a group mentor who shall help these students.
If the students are not able to guess the correct answers, the concepts shall be explained again.
Task 2 : MODEL MAKING
For Learning outcome/outcomes:
differentiate between a prokaryotic cell and a eukaryotic cell
differentiate between plant cell and animal cell
Task : Teacher should create groups of students and allocate one of the following topics to each group:
Prokaryotic cell
Eukaryotic cell
Animal cell
Plant cell Each group would be asked to prepare an outline model of the topic allocated.
Animal Cell Plant Cell
Time span:
2 periods of 40 minutes each

Remedial Measures:
For model making, if the students are unable to make the appropriate model, then the teacher should provide them with diagram and guidance.
If still the students are not able to complete the task, reshuffling of groups should be done, taking care of the students’ intellect.
