IntroductionTheBiologicalandChemicalOceanographyDataManagementOffice(BCO-DMO)isadomain-specificdigitaldatarepositorythatworkswithinvestigatorsfundedundertheNationalScienceFoundation’sDivisionofOceanSciencesandOfficeofPolarProgramstomanagetheirdatafreeofcharge.DatamanagersworkcloselywithinvestigatorstosatisfytheirdatasharingrequirementsandtodevelopcomprehensiveDataManagementPlans,aswellastoensurethattheirdatawillbewelldescribedwithextensivemetadatacreation.Additionally,BCO-DMOofferstoolstofindandreusethesehigh-qualitydataandmetadatapackages,andservices suchasDOIgenerationforpublicationandattribution.Theseresourcesarefreeforalltodiscover,access,andutilize.
Asarepositoryembeddedinourresearchcommunity,BCO-DMOiswellpositionedtoofferknowledgeandexpertisefrombothdomaintraineddatamanagersandthescientificcommunityatlarge.BCO-DMOiscurrentlyhometomorethan9000datasetsand900projects,allofwhichareorwillbesubmittedforarchiveattheNationalCentersforEnvironmentalInformation(NCEI).Ourdataholdingscontinuetogrow,andencompassawiderangeofoceanographicresearchareas,includingbiological,chemical,physical,andecological. Thesedatarepresentcruisesandexperimentsfromaroundtheworld,andaremanagedusingcommunitybestpractices,standards,andtechnologiestoensureaccuracyandpromotere-use.BCO-DMOisarepositoryandtoolforinvestigators,offeringbothoceansciencedataandresourcesfordatadisseminationandpublication.
