#LikeAClubKidChallenge:
Part 1
3:00 PM – 4:00 PM Power Hour
Spelling Ping Pong/water war
Find a friend and stand face to face.
Have a third person pick a word for the two opponents to spell. The two facing off spell
this word together, alternating letters.
For example, if the word was “scratch”, player one says “s”, then player two says “c”
and so on until the word is spelled correctly or until someone makes a mistake. If the
word is spelled correctly, no one gets a point.
If someone spells incorrectly or has a long pause, they get squirted with a water bottle
and the other player gets a point.
First to 5 points wins. Nice weather? Take this game outside! Get water guns or big
cups of water… the more water the better!
5:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Youth Art
Destroy to Create
Today we are going to have fun tearing up images from the magazines at your table. We are going to use
all of the torn-up pieces to create a new picture, called a collage. When we tear up the paper, we will be
creating lots of different shapes. We are going to use all of those different shapes to make a whole new
picture. You can make anything you like. It might be a person, a building, a tree… It is up to you!
Step-by-Step Directions
Step 1: Destroy it first.
Grab an old magazine, choose two or three pages and tear them up however you like!
Try to organize the new shapes you are creating into piles. Group the pieces by color.
What kind of shapes are you creating? How could you tear the paper to make a shape you haven’t yet?
Step 2: Put the pieces together.
Now that we have lots of shapes and colors, look at them and think about what you would like to make.
You might make a pattern, a school or a picture of yourself. It’s up to you!
Start making your design using your glue stick and the white paper in front of you. Make sure you put
glue on the back of each magazine piece you are gluing down onto your paper.
Step 3: Finish your collage.
What person, place or thing did you create in your collage today?
Why might we take something apart and put it together in a different way? Now how could you put
other things together in a way to create something new?
