The Joyaires are having a good summer! We meet twice a month, the second Tuesday and last Tuesday. This month we are meeting on Tuesday, August 8 and Tuesday, August 29. I have been bringing the devotions this summer, and the response has been good. We appreciate Lee Spencer for singing and Pam Curtis for her excellent meals.
One of the highlights of the year is coming on Friday, August 4 at 6:00 P.M. Our Indoor Picnic will be at the church. We will have great food, fellowship, and entertainment. Be sure to come and bring someone with you. You should have received an invitation on Sunday with information to RSVP to Pam Curtis by July 30 including your guests.
In Christ, Marvin Middlebrooks

It is hard to believe that summer is on its way out the door. Let the 2017 school year begin, but before it does, we still have some fun to sneak in. This school year kick-off month is going to be all about Heroes, not so much heroes of the Bible, which there are many, but how some ordinary teenagers can pick up the cape and cowl and be heroes at home, at school, and in their everyday lives. I am excited to see what the semester has in store for us; we hope you’ll join us. – Pastor Will

What a wonderful summer we’ve had with the kids in the Children’s Ministry! With VBS and Kids’ Camp behind us, we’re looking forward to all this next school year will bring!
Sky Ranch Back-to-School Supply DriveIt came to our attention a few years ago that Sky Ranch Elementary, just down the street from Shartel, is a Title I school, meaning that they have a high percentage of low-income families. Since 2009, we have partnered with the faculty and staff at Sky Ranch to provide those families with necessities such as school supplies at the beginning of the school year, Thanksgiving Baskets, Adopt-A-Family at Christmastime, and teacher appreciation. This Fall, we’re kicking off our 2017-2018 partnership with Sky Ranch Elementary by collecting school supplies for the school year. If you are willing to participate, we have lists of supplies that children from each age group (Pre-K through 6th-grade) will need. You can pick an age group and hit the Back-to-School sales for the supplies on the list, bring the gathered supplies back in a plastic bag marked with the age group it is for, and place it in the tub in the lobby by Sunday, August 13. If you cannot afford to purchase all of the items on the list, just buy what you can and place them in our Miscellaneous tub. If you Tind that you don’t have time to go out and buy supplies, we welcome your loving donation to help us gather those supplies. Every little bit helps a child in need.
World Vision Challenge
Speaking of a child in need, our Children’s Ministry has been undergoing a challenge to raise money for a gift to send to the child that we sponsor through World Vision, Joshua! Throughout the month of July, we have been raising money to send to Joshua, his family, and his community as a special gift in addition to the cost of our monthly sponsorship. We will continue to raise money for this special gift through Sunday, August 13. This is a great opportunity to help teach your kiddos about being thankful for what we have and giving back to God in the big things as well as the little things. This challenge will help provide Joshua and his family with clean water, nutritious food, educational opportunities, and the advantage of small farm animals for personal and potential business use.
I’m so thankful to be a part of a church family who is always supportive, kind, and encouraging. I love being part of the life-changing moments that we don’t always see as significant. I’m blessed by every one of you on a regular basis, whether it’s with smiles, hugs, or a word of encouragement. Thank you for showing Godly love to me, to our kids, and to one another. It’s the example that each of us set that gets noticed by those we minister to, even those we don’t realize we’re ministering to. As the summer wraps up and we enter into another season, I pray that we all have the opportunity to see the ways in which God has been using each of us with our unique gifts and that He continues to show us ways in which He can use us.
Love and Blessings,Sarah Norris

Hymn Sing Unity ServiceSunday, July 16, 2017, at 6 P.M. over 200 voices from 14 different churches were heard singing “psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs” in the sanctuary at Shartel Church of God in Oklahoma City, OK. With the intention of singing a song of praise, over 20 hymns were sung along with special music from local churches in the area. It was encouraging hearing so many voices singing loudly and with confidence the heritage hymns and songs. The desire of my heart with this special service is that we can teach the future generations the songs we were raised singing. Many were blessed, and the Lord was praised!

Each month, we have a Men’s Breakfast. It is a time to eat, connect, invest, and listen to a devotional thought. Each month, we bring in a guest speaker.
We had a great turnout for the July Men's Breakfast! If you didn't make it, join us for the August breakfast on Saturday, August 26, at 8 A.M.! Pastor Leon Sutterfield will share our devotional.

Transformation. Many of us want it, and EVERYONE needs it. But can we really be different than we are? Yes! God doesn’t want to just “help” us…He wants to TRANSFORM us. Jesus always met people where they were, but He never left them there. He always offered them an opportunity to be something more…SOMEONE more. He offered them transformation. He still does. God meets us wherever we are and offers each of us the same opportunity…to be MORE…to be DIFFERENT…to be CHANGED. Jesus doesn’t want to leave any of us as we are, but instead do something in us that we never thought possible. Imagine what YOUR life could look like... God is ready…are YOU?
