Because of You“Because of You” is a story about the importance of individuals. Students will

learn that the world changes each time a child is born. Every child can be loved and cared for and can love and care for another person. Each time a child is born, there is another person who can bring kindness into the world and contribute to world peace.

Help your child realize the importance of acknowledging those around him or her. Explain that he or she is connected to the world and how he or she affects and is affected by many different people. Help your child understand the idea of a “chain of events” where one small incident can lead to something much bigger. After your child has finished reading “Because of You,” you may want to complete the following activity together.

Let your child experience a chain of events in a tangible way by planting some seeds, nurturing them, and watching them grow into something beautiful. Do some research in a botany book or on the Internet to find out which flower or vegetable seeds can easily grow inside your home. With your child, plant the seeds and observe the results of your nurturing. Eventually, you and your child can spread kindness by sharing the flower or vegetable with a friend, family member, or neighbor.

Selection Vocabulary

Your child will be studying the following vocabulary words in the upcoming week. Please review the meanings of these words with your child: care—to look after; share—to divide into portions and give to others as well as to oneself; kind—gentle, generous, and friendly; precious—loved and cherished; feelings—plural of feeling: an emotion, such as joy, fear, sadness.

Spelling

Your child will be studying the following spelling words in the upcoming week. Please review the spellings of these words with your child: mild, care, pilot, lady, bake, time, sale, ride, able, kind. Challenge Words: apron, final, quite, quiet, share.

Because of You “Because of You” es una selección sobre la importancia de los individuos. Los

estudiantes aprenderán que el mundo cambia cada vez que nace un bebé. Cada niño puede ser amado y querido y puede querer y amar a otra persona. Cada vez que nace un niño, hay otra persona que aporta bondad al mundo y contribuye a un mundo en paz.

Ayude a su hijo(a) a darse cuenta de la importancia de estar consciente de la gente que está a su alrededor. Explique que él(ella) está conectado(a) al mundo y afecta a muchas personas diferentes. Ayude a su hijo(a) a entender la idea de una “cadena de acontecimientos” donde un pequeño incidente puede derivar en uno mucho mayor.
