What is a Brand?A brand is more than just your name and your logo. Your brand needs to talk to people.

It should be: Inspiring

Engaging Connecting

A BRAND should inspire to be engaging. It should be creative and strong enough to establish real connections.

A brand is:•Your Identity, it is who you are. •It shares with the world what you can offer and how you offer it. •It helps you establish credibility with current and future customers. •It you earn a good reputation for your brand, you can break away from your competition. •When you have a good brand that is established, people are more likely to pay more for your services. Why? •Because they believe your services will be more beneficial than other lower priced options on the market.

How do you stand out from the crowd by using your brand?The purpose of your brand is to differentiate your business from that of your competitors and others.

There are 6 P’s of Brand Building:

Product - What are you selling? Whether it’s merchandise, a service or your expertise, the product is the end game, the entity that you supply to your customers and the ultimate purpose of branding.

Promise - the pledge you make to your customers about who you are and what you can do for them. When customers see your logo, hear your slogan or see your product, their mind should focus on your brand promise.

Positioning - The critical factor here isn’t where you are in the marketplace it’s where you want to be. Positioning lets you set the terms for your brand. With your advertising, design elements, distribution and online presence, you can depict your brand as fun or sophisticated. To name but a few.

Personality - Is it likable? Respected? Avoided? Remember, if you don’t like your brand personality (and your customers don’t either), you CAN change it.

People - Every person in your organization from the receptionist to the tea lady to the CEO is a reflection of your brand. Each member of the team should be well-schooled on your messaging and present themselves in a manner that reinforces the brand (coming across as friendly, professional, organized, etc.)

Perseverance - Needs no explanation other than PERSEVERANCE PAYS.

How To Make Your Brand Stand Out

Break The RulesThere are just some things that certain niches don’t do, simply because no one has done it before. One way to become memorable is push the envelope and think outside the normal box that everyone else in your industry lives in.

Infuse Practices of Your Favorite Brands Into Your BrandYou love your favorite brands for a reason maybe they offer little extras with each purchase or they have the best customer service on the planet. Write down all the reasons you love your favorite brand and try and figure out ways to infuse some of those things into your own brand. This will help you build the brand you love while standing out because you’re a little bit different from the rest.

Be Unique Just because other designers are offering branding, web and print services does not mean you have to too. Play to your strengths and know what you’re good at and stick to it

Don’t Wait For Permission If you want something go for it! Don’t wait for people to reach out to you, if there’s a project you’re dying to work on or a collaboration you want to do, be the person that reaches out. You don’t have to wait around for someone to give you permission to make your dreams happen.
