BASICS OF NEC PASOLINK V4 (PDH); LOGIN, SETUP AND TROUBLESHOOTING

Prepared by:Hashir Mohmad ShahOVERVIEWNEC Pasolink V4(PDH) is a point-to-point wireless access radio system currently deployed in RCOM Network.Supports traffic Capacities of 2x2, 4x2, 8x2, 16x2 Mbps (i.e., maximum 16 E1s supported)In addition to the current E1 interfaces, two 10/100 BASE-T interface ports are provided. They enable flexible allocation of bandwidth between E1 and 10BASE-T traffic. Each of the 10/100BASE-T(X) channels can be assigned any of the following data rates: 2/8/17/34 Mbps, and the remaining capacity can be allotted to E1 usage.TOOLKITS REQUIREDRS232 Cable is required for local login into NEC Pasolink PDH whose one end is 9-PIN Female from laptop side and 15-PIN Male from IDU side. Installing PNMTj Software Tool

Setting up SNMP Service

Setting up Standard Dial-up Modem

Goto Control panel and open Phone and Modem Options

Verify the location and area Code

Goto Modems Tab and click on Add

Check the Dont detect my modem option and click Next

Select Standard 19200 bps Modem and click Next

Select the COM Port and click Next

Click Finish to complete the modem installation

Verify the modem installation in Modems Tab

Again goto Control Panel and Open Network Connections

Click on Create New Connection to set up new dial-up connection

Click Next to Continue

Select the option as shown and click Next

Select Dial-up Connection and Click Next

Select the Standard 19200 bps Modem and click Next

Name the Connection as PNMT(RS232C)

Set 1234 as the phone number

Click Finish to Complete the Connection Setup

Set the connection properties as shown below

Check the Security and networking settings as below

Installation of PNMTjInstallation of PNMTj is simple and we just have to follow the instructions until installation is successfully completed

Run the PNMT Installation Setup

Click Next and follow the installation wizard until installation is completedSNMP Service SettingIn order for PNMTj LCT to run, SNMP Service has to be either removed or shut down

Since SNMP Service is required while logging in Ericsson equipment e.g., AXX, PTN, etc, so we cannot completely remove it but have to shut it down incase it is running while logging into NEC Pasolink

PNMTj application will give following error if SNMP Service is Running

Goto SNMP Service and end the process and after that PNMT application will run smoothly

Run PNMTj software. On the login window enter Username as admin and leave password blank. Set connection on Dialup and Select PNMT(RS232C) as dial-up entry and click LoginIMPORTANT POINTSThe NE is logged via the LA Port present on the front panel of the Pasolink equipment

There is no separate Alarms list option available in NEC Pasolink V4 and therefore alarms are to be checked on each unit i.e., ODU, IDU separately while troubleshooting

We cannot perform Soft patching in it; media is forwarded on a particular TDM channel and is received on the same channel at the other end just like we do in Minilink-E by checking the color coding

IMPORTANT POINTSThe equipment supports a maximum of 16 Electrical channels that can be taken as physical drop from two front panel electrical ports each supports 8 Channels.Has two 10/100M Ethernet ports for ethernet media drop for NodeB or forwardingRemember that it has a maximum traffic capacity of 16x2 Mbps, so it has to be decided as per planning how much is needed for TDM traffic and how much for ethernet mediaCOLOR CODE OF E1 CABLEBelow is given Color Code of E1 Cable. Same color code is repeated for Channel 8-16 in same sequenceCHANNEL NOTX PAIRRX PAIR1Gray/YellowGreen/Yellow2Gray/RedGreen/Red3Gray/BlackGreen/Black4Gray/WhiteGreen/White5Orange/YellowBlue/Yellow6Orange/RedBlue/Red7Orange/BlackBlue/Black8Orange/WhiteBlue/White

The Dial-up connection will be connected and the LCT will start loading

This is the main window that will be shown once NE is logged inData windowBlock DiagramTabsLogin userNE-Specific Menu BarTool BarMenu Bar

Beginning with link Status, click on ODU either in Block Diagram or in Tabs to check Alarms, Tx Power, RSL and ODU typeAlarms Status (Green means No Alarm)Tx PowerRSL

To perform loopback on any desired Channel, click onto the Channel the window as shown will be available. Loopback1 is given as loopback on channel towards BTS

Loopback2 is given as loopback on channel towards Radio (BSC). Remember that there is no IF Loopback option available in Pasolink V4

Channel usage can be set Used or Not used as per requirement

CH 1-4 are blurred, this is so because 8 Mbps bandwidth is set aside for FE Port1 Here we can check the TDM Channel for various alarms and other status

Click on MAINT to show maintenance window, remember maintenance mode has to be always ON whenever we have to save any configuration to NESetting Transmitter ON or OFF option is also provided here

Clicking on PMC provides the various options like setting date and time, Reset, Backup and restoration and IP configuration

Click on PMC Reset to give reset to PM Card by pressing Execute. Same way other options are available

Click on IP Network Button to enter the IP Configuration Setting of NE

IP Address of the NE is configured here as per DCN planning

Click on Link Performance Monitor Button on NE-Specific Menu Bar to check link performance

Click on NE Stored Log button on menu bar to check the NE log

Click on Configuration to go into Equipment Setup

This window will be shown which we can see the present defined parameters of NE

Click on Frequency Plan to set/change the frequency as per TLP

Click on MPTC TX power Control to set TX Power

Click on Tx Power Contol to change the mode between ATPC or MTPC as per planning

Goto Port Setting button to configure the LAN Ports as per requirement

Bit Rate (Traffic Capacity) is set by clicking on Bit Rate button and setting the Bitrate. Same way other parameters like BER Threshold, Frame ID can be set

Meaning description for the NE is provided in the Note option

Click on NE Element List to search for NE list

After search is completed we can connect to the desired NETHANK YOUPrepared by: Hashir Mohmad Shah
