Bal Swan Parent Partnership Program, Program Extras, & Events
Positive Solutions for Parents: A six-week workshop that will provide support and strategies for
parents, many of which we implement at school. This home/school connection makes this workshop really
unique. This program occurs four times a year and includes child care so both parents can attend together.
At-Home Parenting Coaching Sessions: As a follow up to the Positive Solutions for Parents , a Bal
Swan teacher/coach will partner with parents to create strategies and supports in the family’s home.
Positive Solutions Parenting Workshop for your group (Mom’s club, MOPS, etc): A Bal Swan Parent
Educator will coach a parenting workshop for your group or club. Workshops are based on the Pyramid
Model Positive Solutions for Parents.
The Bal Swan University Presents… “The ABCs of Behavior”: This is a four-hour Saturday workshop
to help parents understand their children’s behavior. Behavior is communication! This workshop will help
you recognize what children are trying to “get” or “get out of.”
Bal Swan University Presents… “Directions, Choices, and Use of Visual Strategies”: A four-hour
Saturday workshop on giving directions so your children will listen, offering choices to help with
challenging behavior and using visuals to help communicate expectations.
Counseling with Dr. Bob, Bal Swan School Psychologist: Talk to Dr. Robert Hopper about issues like
eating, sleeping, and toileting. He has been meeting with parents and children for over 20 years and his
services are free to Bal Swan families through grant funding. You can sign up for a time to meet with him
on his schedule, which is posted at the front desk.
Parenting Safe Children: This is a four-hour workshop on empowering adults and children with
protective language and an awareness of the “grooming practices” of a pedophile. Parent leave this
session with the skills to identify possible pedophiles and language to teach their children that may scare a
pedophile off.

full, so contact Karen about being on a waiting list.
Ice Cream Social: This September event kick-starts the school year at Bal Swan. The entire Bal Swan
family shares free ice-cream at Northmoor Park across the parking lot from Bal Swan. New families meet
current families and alumni families attend to share stories about their time at Bal Swan. The highlight of
the event is the flying dog show. Every year Bal Swan invites a group that trains Frisbee show dogs. The
children of Bal Swan just love seeing the dogs chase down and jump for the flying discs.
Bal Swan Pint-Size Ball: Usually in November, Bal Swan opens its doors on a weekend to a transformed
school. The new school is a mini-ball complete with a dance hall, decorations, children’s party food, and
activities. The event always has a theme so it is funny to see parents and their children dressed in
matching outfits dancing to the Macarena…. Hey Macarenaaaaa.
Bal Swan Ball: In early March, the Bal Swan Ball is one of the most anticipated events in the Broomfield
community. This event started in 1963 and is now attended each year by more than 500 Bal Swan family
members. It is held at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield and consists of a silent and live auction,
dinner, live music, dancing, and non-cash gambling. Attendees wear anything from a tuxedo or ball
gowns to a theme costume which make for an interesting event. Imagine setting next to someone dressed
like Van Halen. The Ball’s themes have ranged from “Satin and Spurs”, “Vega Baby”, to the decade
theme we are using until our 50th
anniversary in 2013. Proceeds from the Bal Swan Ball support Bal
Swan’s therapy services and preschool programming.
Bal Swan Family Picnic: At the end of the school year in May, Bal Swan breaks out the massive grills
and cooks hamburger, hot dogs, and veggie alternative for all the Bal Swan Family. Jimmy Buffet plays
in the wind while children get ketchup on their shirts. This is another event at Northmoor Park that brings
the Bal Swan family together.
Bal Swan Golf-4-Kidz: This is the school’s annual golf tournament which is held each year in June. The
latest tournament was an overwhelming success with 242 participants. The Broadlands Golf Course
donates the use of the course to Bal Swan for one full day. This generous gift enables us to retain nearly
all of the proceeds from the event. We also have been fortunate to have Hunter Douglas and its vendors
return year after year to support the event. Hunter Douglas , with the active support of its employees, has
been the title sponsor of the event for more than 20 years.
Volunteering: Bal Swan has a health volunteer network that our parents use to meet other families and to
give back to Bal Swan. All the above events are planned and supports by Bal Swan parents. So if
anything above is of interest, just contact the front office and Bal Swan will connect you to the right
person.
