OCTOBER 2020
In the tenth season of Vera, DCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) and her team will investigate four more intricate, tragic and compelling murder cases. From the rugged, stormy shoreline of a Northumberland based Salmon Farm to a thrilling floodlit Greyhound Stadium; from the picturesque isolation of a family-owned country pub to the whispered gossip of a tight-knit village community, Vera will uncover stories of corporate corruption, brushes with organized crime and deeply buried personal guilt.

SEASON 10 PREMIERES SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31 AT 9:32PM
Back in the new York Groove
Get back into the swing of New York City’s arts and culture with new episodes of NYC-ARTS (Sundays at 6pm). On October 4, celebrate the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and its educational mission, the arts and education programs keeping the organization alive and accessible during these difficult times, and more. Then turn your focus to the American Folk Art Museum’s “Rhoda Goodrich
Bentley and Daughter,” an example of Ammi Phillips’ portraits (1788-1865) that lent incisive truthfulness throughout his 50+ year career. Throughout the new episodes, discover how some arts groups are staying relevant and connected to their audiences and the arts community during the pandemic. Calling all parents and students! As the fall school season continues with all its variations and uncertainties, WLIW21 is your broadcast destination for at-home learning programs for grades 3K to grade 5, Monday through Friday starting at 9am and ending at noon. Featuring expert educators from New York and New Jersey, Let’s Learn NYC! and NJTV Learning Live episodes emphasize literacy, math, music, movement, science, social studies, physical education and more in engaging broadcasts and consistency you can count on. Anyone in the WLIW21 viewing area can tune-in or livestream these remote learning lessons at wliw.org/live. How much do you know about bay houses? These small shacks that stand on Long Island’s South Shore marshlands were originally built in the 1700 and 1800s, and cannot be bought or sold, only inherited or transferred to a close friend or family member. Some families have owned these houses for more than 100 years. Treasures of New York — A World Within a World: Bay Houses of Long Island (Thursday, October 15 at 8pm) captures the essence of how bay house owners have persevered and endured through severe storms and hurricanes, as well as eroding marshlands, all while preserving traditions that began in the early 19th century.

THANK YOU Each program we put on air has the
potential to inspire, educate and engage you. None of our extraordinary arts,
public affairs or education programming would be possible without your support and commitment. Thank you for being
part of our journey as we work remotely to offer programming on-air and
online that has the potential to change lives. Stay safe and healthy. We’ll get
through this together.
