MEMBERSHIP & SPECIAL EVENTS
We were very excited to roll out a fall calendar of planned member events. Unfortunately, with the changes in Covid, those events have been postponed for the time being. Be on the lookout for a rescheduled date for our Casino Royale night. We are very much looking forward to hosting that event at the right time.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly for your membership and event needs [email protected] or 813-963-3537 and I will be happy to assist.

JUNIOR CHAMPS:
We had some outstanding results f rom our junior golfers throughout the summer. Elyse Meerdink, Andrew Siffert and Konner Kubica, all recently took home impressive victories. Meerdink won her f irst tournament on the Florida Junior Tour and Siffert picked up his f irst win on the Hurricane Junior Tour. Kubica also won his age group on the HJT. All 3 separated themselves f rom the f ield. Great job and keep up the hard work!

FROM THE TENNIS COURTS
TENNIS TIPS Have a game plan and make sure every stroke has a purpose. You can be a baseliner, a server and volleyer or a combination of both. According to your scores or your opponent, you should choose a game plan that will play better against him or her. Also, make sure that you are not swinging randomly. Every stroke you take should have a purpose.

THE GREATER GOOD OF ALL
We are grateful beyond measure for the continued support and cooperation of the Avila members and f itness team throughout the pandemic journey. We will continue to strive in prioritizing recommended safety precautions to bring peace of mind, enriching activities and a stress-f ree environment with meaningful ways to support one’s well-being.
The f irst step – the simple practice of gratitude. Just as your muscles benef it f rom exercise, your mind benef its f rom the habit of practicing gratitude. Science has shown keeping a gratitude journal reduces stress and anxiety. If journaling is more than you’re ready to commit to, there are other simple strategies. Identify small things to be grateful for that you normally take for granted. Being attentive and thankful is proven to promote happiness. For Avila, the members, and staff, I am truly grateful. Thank you kindly.

TURF TALKThe golf maintenance team has had a busy summer carrying out summer cultural practices. I love seeing the new life that the course is given when these two tasks are completed.
Once the rainy season comes to an end, we will be able to better monitor moisture levels and firm up the golf course. Also, to help improve playing conditions we will be installing new bunker sand to all green side bunkers and plate tamping the bunker faces in mid-October. The team continues to improve the overall appearance of the course everyday with their attention to detail on each task.
On a side note, I would like to thank the members for your patience during our maintenance and projects throughout the summer. At the same time, I would like to recognize the golf maintenance team for their commitment during the summer maintenance and projects--without their dedication none of this would be possible. As always, I look forward to seeing you on the course and if you have any questions please contact me at [email protected].

FROM THE PRO
Welcome back to many of you that have been away for the summer! Golf is booming right now, and we expect to have high business levels at Avila this fall. We are looking forward to a great one!
For those of you in need of some new equipment, cart repair, new grips, etc, remember, we are here for you. Always a good idea to get things tuned up for the golf ing season. On top of that, our pro shop is sure to be loaded with the latest and greatest apparel, and lot’s of items that are personalized to our club.
I hope you all take advantage of the tournament schedule. It may not be as heavy this fall, but there will be some to play in. We expect to ramp up the calendar after the 1st of the year with a calendar that will basically be the same every year, at least with regard to the major events.
It is great to come out of the heat, and into some cooler and drier weather. Let’s enjoy it!

FANTASTIC FEATSMike Jones dunked an eagle on 16 with a wedge. He was playing with Tom Cummings and Gary Messmer. The date was August 10th, and they were in the Neighborhood Game!
On September 18th and in preparation for PGA Tour Q-School, Jimmy Jones, Jr. and Jake Kevorkian found a game with a few other members. Matt Anderson joined in with Jim Miller and Nate Beard to round out the 5-some. Well, Jimmy and Jake both got hot! When the smoke cleared, Jimmy shot 63, Jake shot 66, Anderson birdied the last 4 holes for 71, and they all had a blast! Jimmy and Jake better ball- 58!
