1.0 WELCOME TO AVIATION AUSTRALIA Congratulations on studying at the leading aviation training organisation in the Asia Pacific region. Aviation Australia is a Registered Training Organisation approved by the Australian Government to deliver nationally recognised training in the Aviation field. The campus has world class training facilities and was established to support the development and growth of the aerospace industries in Australia and the Asia Pacific, with a particular focus on aircraft maintenance engineering, cabin crew, flight crews, management and operations. We have well qualified and dedicated staff who offer high quality learning experiences, services and facilities. 1.1 Brisbane Campus
Aviation Australia has been established within Brisbane’s Airport precinct. Brisbane Airport is located just 20 minutes from the Central Business District. Aviation Australia is a modern, well-‐equipped facility, seeking to use modern communications and information technologies to facilitate learning on and off the Aviation Australia facility. This will enable students to have the best opportunities in achieving their goals in pursuit of an aviation career.
A canteen is also located on site for lunches, light snacks, tea and coffee.
Technical Training Centre
Our 5000 square metre purpose built facility incorporates:
� 17 classrooms and several computer rooms � Technical Library � Workshops – Avionics, Hydraulics, Composites and General Engineering � Hangar with operational aircraft � Store with tools and equipment � Canteen area
Flight Safety Training Centre
Our 5200 square metre purpose built facility incorporates:
� 13 classrooms and computer room � Practical training area including door and exit trainers, escape slides,
ditching pool and cabin trainer for fire training � Corporate boardroom � 2 Auditoriums � Lunch room
1.2 Cairns Campus
Cairns Aviation Skills Centre has been established within the Cairns Airport precinct. The facility is a purpose built structure of slightly more than 1000 square metres. The facility provides five large classrooms, lunch room/kitchen area, instructor’s office, two offices for administration functions and a spacious lobby and reception area.
Our purpose built facility incorporates:
� 4 classrooms and computer room � Conference Room � Hangar with operational aircraft such as Cessna 152B and Falcon 10. � Lunch room and kitchen facilities

2.0 STUDYING AT AVIATION AUSTRALIA 2.1 Quality Assurance
Aviation Australia is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) approved by the federal government to deliver training in the Aviation Field and to issue certification documentation in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). In order to maintain our registration as an RTO, Aviation Australia must demonstrate to the Vocational Education and Training (VET) regulator how we comply with the VET Quality Framework set out under the National VET Regulator Act 2011. The standards are very rigorous and Aviation Australia has appropriate systems in place to ensure that not only do we meet our compliance obligations, but most importantly, students receive a high-‐quality training product that equips them for employment in the Aviation industry. In addition to our RTO status, we are a Part 147 Maintenance Training Organisation approved under the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Part 147 approval allows Aviation Australia to deliver aircraft maintenance engineering training that leads to a Licenced outcome with the two aforementioned airworthiness authorities.
2.2 Enrolment Application Process
This comprehensive handbook has been prepared to provide students with information essential to their induction at Aviation Australia. This handbook is aimed at ensuring that each student is aware of their rights and the procedures and policies.
Courses will be delivered face to face unless otherwise advised in your enrolment documentation. If your course contains industry placement you may be required to complete this placement off campus.
Below is an overview of the steps of the application process:
Step 1 Student enquiry & enrolment application form submitted; Step 2 Aviation Australia may conduct an interview and testing for entry into the course; Step 3 Student reviews the Student Handbook – makes payment of course deposit fee;
Step 4 Aviation Australia issues a Confirmation of Enrolment; Step 5 Student commences study with Aviation Australia.
2.3 Induction and Orientation
At the commencement of each new course Aviation Australia staff will conduct a full induction / orientation session to provide all new students with detailed information relating to:
� Course outline, outcomes and qualifications � Policies and Procedures � Assessment procedures, including RPL � Facilities and amenities
2.4 Change of Personal Details
If a change of name or address is effected after enrolment, it is the responsibility of the student to notify Student Services of the change of details. Please complete the ‘Change of Personal Details’ Form and provide the form to Student Services.

2.5 Student ID Cards
Student ID cards are required for all students studying onsite at Aviation Australia. Aviation Australia resides within the Brisbane Airport Corporation precinct and all staff and students are required to have photo ID at all times.
During your Induction / Orientation you will have your photo taken for your Student ID Card. The card will be provided to you within 10 working days. This must be kept with you whilst on campus – for class attendance scanning and examination identification.

$ If you need to replace your Aviation Australia Student ID card – this is a cost of $20.00 AUD. During your Induction / Orientation, we will also assist you with the application for a Translink ‘Tertiary Transport Concession Card’.

2.6 Textbooks, Equipment and Materials
Aviation Australia will provide all tools, workshop equipment and practical materials required for training.
Students will be required to provide all of their own basic stationary needs (note books, pens, pencils etc.). Students are also required to supply their uniform / clothing – Aviation Australia has available shirts for purchase if required. Students are required to purchased appropriate footwear -‐ see ‘Workplace Health & Safety’ for further information.
Student textbooks will be provided by Aviation Australia within the course fee. Where a student may withdraw from the course, a textbook fee will apply. If a student withdraws within the first week of training and text books still remain packaged, this fee may not apply.
2.7 Fees and Charges
Your Enrolment Application will contain details regarding your applicable course fees and charges, including refunds. Fees are subject to change during your course duration. Additional fees may include:

*Cabin Crew students are required to purchase a uniform which includes black pants or skirt, black jacket and white blouse. The cost of the uniform will depend on the store where it has been purchased and how many pieces of the uniform the student will personally require. The uniform purchase will be a good investment for the student as it can be used for future cabin crew job interviews.
FULL FEE PAYING STUDENTS [including FLIGHT SAFETY, INDUSTRY/TYPE COURSES] Students paying for the full course fee will have agreed payment terms and conditions noted on the Enrolment Confirmation. Generally a minimum course deposit fee is required to secure your position on the course. Full course fees are payable as noted on your Enrolment Confirmation – generally prior to course commencement.
FUNDED STUDENTS [AEROSKILLS] Aviation Australia has approved funding for the institutional underpinning knowledge component of the Certificate IV in Aeroskills.
Eligible students may be able to access funding through Aviation Australia from the Queensland Government for their Tuition Fees. The course fee for students includes a facility fee and a contribution fee towards the cost of tuition. The facility fee is an administration fee from Aviation Australia and is not subject to any exemptions. The contribution fee is set by the Department and is calculated per nominal hour for each Module / Unit of Competency delivered. The Department may amend the amount of fees chargeable on an annual basis, based on the increase to the consumer price index.
Partial Exemptions for Contribution Fees Where the participant falls into one or more of the below categories, participant contribution fees may be reduced to 40%:
� The Participant was or will be under 17 at the end of February in the year which Aviation Australia supplied training, and the participant has not completed year 12;
� The Participant holds a health care card or pensioner card issued under Commonwealth law, or is the partner or a dependant of a person who holds a health care card or pensioner concession card, and is named on the card;
� The Participant issues the Supplier with an official form under Commonwealth law confirming that the Participant, his or her partner or the person of whom the Participant is a dependant, is entitled to concessions under a health care card or pensioner concession card; or

� The Participant is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island person and acceptable evidence of this would be any of the criteria listed below:
o advice from the appropriate Commonwealth Department approving the Participant's application for an Abstudy ; o a declaration from a local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Group; or o where the Supplier has or is serviced by an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Support Officer, a declaration by
that officer.
Fee exemption on Contribution Fees on the grounds of extreme hardship or other special circumstances
� The participant was or will be under 17 at the end of February in the year which Aviation Australia supplied training, and the participant has not completed year 12;
� Where payment of the student contribution fee and/or student services fee would cause the Participant extreme financial hardship, then the Supplier may exempt the Participant from these fees;
� The exemption process should be in place at the time of the Participant's enrolment; � Where the participant is a School-‐Based Apprentice or Trainee.
REFUNDS
Aviation Australia offers both full and partial refunds depending on the individual circumstance. The refund policy is available on the Aviation Australia website under Policy and Governance.
2.8 Course Attendance & Progress Requirements
COURSE ATTENDANCE
Students undertaking training at Aviation Australia are expected to participate in classes for a minimum of 90% of the total course duration. The course attendance policy is available on the the Aviation Australia website under ‘Policies and Governance’.
Class times are provided in your enrolment documentation. You will have access to your detailed timetable once you complete your Induction / Orientation and subscribe to your online timetable. Students must notify Aviation Australia if they are unable to attend class at any time. Where students are not able to attend, they are required to submit a Student Absentee Form to Student Services for filing on their record.
To improve your chances of gaining employment, we strongly recommend you maintain the above minimum attendance. Employers frequently request information on student course progress and attendance when forwarding resumes and applications.
COURSE PROGRESS
Students undertaking training at Aviation Australia are expected to participate in classes and achieve course progression within their enrolled course. The course progress policy is available on the the Aviation Australia website under ‘Policies and Procedures’.
If you are intending to achieve a CASA outcome, you must achieve a minimum 75% outcome on Part 66 examinations to meet CASA requirements.
2.9 Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL is a process that allows the competencies a student possesses to be recognised, regardless of how they were obtained. These may include skills gained on the job, or from other life experiences that do not necessarily include formal training. RPL assessment can only be conducted against competencies for which Aviation Australia is approved to assess.
Initially, students should seek information on the process through the assessment team at [email protected] . Students should fill in an RPL application form for assessment by an RPL assessor/teacher. If required, students could be invited to an interview where they will be asked to provide evidence of the skills they have. If successful, students will be issued with the same credential as if they had undertaken the full module as an enrolled student.
RPL may potentially reduce the time students spend completing a training program. Students need to look carefully at the module/unit descriptors and see if they believe they have already achieved the learning outcomes described. If so, they should consider applying for RPL in the selected module or unit of competency.
Distinguishing between RPL and Credit Transfer

RPL involves a person being granted exemption for a Unit of Competency / Module on the grounds of training or other experience that corresponds to the learning outcomes of the module and which do not come under existing credit transfer arrangements. This could involve considerable resources in assessing these studies or life experience.
Credit Transfer involves a person being granted exemption for the Unit of Competency / Module after having previously studied another module with the same learning outcomes on the grounds of formal pre-‐determined credit transfer arrangements
In an RPL process, Aviation Australia is responsible for conducting the assessment, whereas the credit transfer process relies on the assessment having already been done and recorded in some form of credential by another Registered Training Organisation.
Aviation Australia, as a Registered Training Organisation, accepts and recognises credentials issued by another Registered Training Organisation based in any State/Territory of Australia. The credential may be a Statement of Attainment for specific modules or unit of competency or it may be a complete qualification such as certificate or diploma.

2.10 Assessments, Examinations & Results
Theory assessments -‐ Students may be assessed in a number of ways including (but not limited to) online multiple choice, short answer responses, case studies and paper based essays.
Practical assessments – Methods of assessment may include (but not limited to) practical observations and simulated tasks.
Deferment of assessments -‐ Where extenuating circumstances exist, a student may apply for a short deferment of an assessment. Applications to defer assessments must be received at least five (5) working days prior to the examination date.
Results -‐ The results of summative examinations will be published on your Student Portal in approximately ten working days from the date of the assessment.
Assessment Re-‐sits -‐ Students who are deemed Not Yet Competent in an assessment or who do not pass a regulatory examination may apply for an assessment re-‐sit. Students must meet the requirements of the resit process – of which can be discussed with your School Manager.
The student must apply a minimum of five (5) working days prior to assessment re-‐sits.
Regulatory examinations require a minimum waiting period of thirty (30) days prior to assessment re-‐sits provided the student attends remedial training. Should the student choose not to attend remedial training, a ninety (90) day waiting period applies for examination re-‐sits as per the relevant Aviation regulations.
If the student is caught cheating, the examination will be declared void and the student will not be permitted to sit any examinations for 12 months from the day of the declaration.
Appeals -‐ If a student is not satisfied with the result (marks) for any final assessment, a re-‐assessment may be requested through an appeal process.

2.11 Unique Student Identifier (USI)
The USI is a reference number made up of numbers and letters that provides students access to a USI online account at no cost. This will allow the student access to their records of VET training from all providers and will stay with the student for life. The purpose of the USI is to make it easier for the student to find, collate and authenticate their VET attainments and to ensure that VET records are not lost.The student must provide Aviation Australia with their USI upon enrolment or apply for a USI as part of Aviation Australia’s orientation program. Further information is in the ‘Student Portal’ section of this Handbook.
Note – Aviation Australia cannot issue ceritification without a valid USI and would be in breach of Commonwealth Law if this occurred -‐ it is important that the student has a USI as the course end approaches to ensure certificates are issued within the 30 day timeframe.

2.12 Certification
All tuition fees must be paid in full prior to certification being issued. Certification will be issued within 30 days of final assessment. Certificates will be provided via post (or face to face) – we are unable to provide copies of certificates electronically.
Re-‐Issue of Certifications: Aviation Australia will re-‐issue certification to a client if requested by the customer. The request must be provided in writing using the ‘Certificate Request Form’ along with photographic identification. An Administration Fee of $50 AUD applies and must be paid prior to the replacement being issued.

2.13 Learner Support
Aviation Australia provides remedial training for students who may be experiencing difficulty in keeping up with the pace of the course. Remedial classes are available weekly through the Training Department. Should remedial sessions not be sufficient or if the student feels they need external learning support, Aviation Australia can put the student in contact with an external learning support provider. Please note this may come at an additional cost.
2.14 Communications
Aviation Australia expect that the student will accept responsibility for his/her learning with the support of instructional staff, including regularly checking emails, accessing the online Student Portal and Online Learning systems for communications, resources, policies and procedures, news and events.
3.0 AVIATION AUSTRALIA POLICIES & PROCEDURES Aviation Australia’s Policies & Procedures are available on the Student Portal and on the Aviation Australia Website.
3.1 Workplace Health & Safety
Aviation Australia is committed to achieving and maintaining the highest practicable standards of Workplace health and Safety for its staff, students, contractors and visitors. Aviation Australia accepts its responsibility to provide the resources, direction and support to achieve this commitment.
Senior Management have the responsibility to be aware of and enforce the provisions of all relevant Acts, Regulations, Aviation Australia Policy and Procedures and such local rules and work procedures as may be formulated within their areas of responsibility.
Aviation Australia has an obligation to provide as far as is practical:
� A safe place of work, � Safe tools and equipment, � On-‐going training in workplace health and safety, � Safe, positive supervision at all levels, � Periodic inspections of all Aviation Australia physical assets and activities, � The investigation of all incidents, the reporting of all hazards and the implementation of all practicable control measures to
protect people and property, � To encourage staff and students to implement sound health and safety principles in all their activities.
Aviation Australia requires all staff, students, contractors and visitors to act responsibly and to comply with statutory requirements and all safety Policies, Standards and Guidelines.
WH&S Requirements
Students at Aviation Australia have the following obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
� Students MUST NOT act in a manner that endangers the health and safety of themselves and others at Aviation Australia;

� Students MUST follow safety directions given by members of Aviation Australia staff; � Students MUST NOT wilfully or recklessly interfere with anything provided in the interests of health and safety at Aviation
Australia.
Students failing to comply with these legal requirements are in breach of the WHS Act and may face fines and/or disciplinary action.
Pool Safety
A swimming pool is located within the Flight Safety Training Facility in Brisbane. This pool is used for training activities only and no student recreational swimming is permitted. Flight Safety students when under direct supervision and instruction from Aviation Australia staff will be permitted to use this pool when completing relevant components of their course.
Unauthorised access to the swimming pool facility by students is not permitted.

3.2 Dress Standards
The dress standards listed represent the minimum standard that will provide adequate protection against certain hazards in the Aviation Australia working environment. In addition to these standards, all students will abide by the standards laid down in the regulations and advisory standards which accompany the Work Health and Safety Act.
Flight Safety Training
The minimum standard of dress for Cabin Crew students at Aviation Australia is provided in the Grooming Guide and is not included in the course tuition fees. The uniform can be purchased from a range of stores depending on the student’s individual budget. Please allow approximately $100 to $300 for the uniform.
Technical Training
As a guide, the minimum standard of dress for Technical Training students at Aviation Australia is:
� Shorts or trousers � Sleeved presentable shirt (can be purchased from Aviation Australia Stores) � Enclosed shoes
Clothing worn at all times shall be dark blue work wear (“King Gee” style).
All jewellery and watches shall be removed while undertaking any activity which may lead to injury as a result of jewellery becoming caught or entangled (e.g. drilling, riveting, metal-‐forming or any aircraft maintenance practical activity). Sun-‐screen should be used to provide protection for exposed skin in outdoor activities.
IMPORTANT -‐ STUDENTS FAILING TO MEET MINIMUM STANDARDS OF DRESS MAY NOT BE PERMITTED ENTRY TO THE TRAINING FACILITY.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Prior to entry to the Technical Training Hangar, all personnel are to be in possession of or have access to the below items:
Ø Shoes All safety footwear shall incorporate protective steel toecaps and have covered uppers and non-‐slip soles for the working environment and shall be worn during all practical activities. Enclosed footwear shall be worn at all other times (no bare feet, sandals, thongs or scuffs).
Ø Eye Protection Eye protection, in the form of safety glasses or safety clip-‐ons (if you wear non-‐safety prescription glasses) is to be provided and worn by each student as instructed. Safety glasses must carry the Australian Standards Approval.
If wearing prescription glasses then safety clip-‐ons must be worn, unless the lenses are industrially hardened or made of

CR39. Your optometrist will be able to advise you on this. However, if there is any doubt then you will be required to obtain and wear a pair of safety clip-‐ons.
Ø Hair Protection Hair protection shall be worn, when working around moving machinery and /or when working in designated hair protection areas. The hair protection should be in the form of a peak cap especially designed for industrial use. It should also come with a snood capable of fully containing the hair, or a separate hair net may be worn. A cap of fire resistant material shall be worn when working in the welding bay. The student will be responsible for providing this protection.
Ø Ear Protection Aviation Australia will supply ear protection for sale to students. The student may purchase his/her own ear protection elsewhere if preferred, providing that the standard of such ear protection conforms to the current Australian Standards.
WorkCover / Insurance
Employed students undertaking training at Aviation Australia are protected under their employer’s WorkCover arrangements. 3.3 Emergency Procedures
Emergency procedures will be covered in your Orientation / Induction at Aviation Australia.
If you discover an emergency whilst on site we ask our occupants to remember RACE: R – Remove people from the immediate area (do not obstruct exits or exit routes)
A – Alert others in the vicinity of the danger. Alert your Instructor or AA Staff member (Raise the alarm, dial OO and consider activating a manual call point if required)
C -‐ Confine fire and smoke or other threats (close doors and windows if appropriate)
E – Extinguish or Evacuate (only if trained and safe to do so attempt to extinguish the fire)
There are two alarm tones you could hear within any Aviation Australia facility.
Alert Tone – BEEP BEEEP BEEP
� When the Alert Tone is broadcast it is to inform you of a possible emergency involving the building.
� Occupants of the facility should prepare for the potential for an evacuation.
� Follow all instructions provided by Instructors, Wardens and/or delivered by the PA system.
Evacuation Tone -‐ WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP
� When the evacuation tone is broadcast or when danger is present occupants are to proceed to their nearest emergency exit
� Please remain calm and follow all instructions provided by Instructors, Wardens and/or delivered by the PA system
� Once outside the facility all occupants are to proceed to the nominated Assembly Area for the facility. You can identify your nominated Assembly Area by viewing the evacuation diagrams positioned around the building
� Aviation Australia’s nominated Wardens will assist with evacuating your floor/area immediately when the Evacuation tone is broadcast. Wardens can be identified by their Yellow caps
Assembly Area
Following an evacuation it is important that you wait until you are accounted for otherwise you will potentially be reported to the emergency services as a missing person.
Evacuation signs and diagrams are positioned around all Aviation Australia sites and they are specific to each individual building. Evacuation signs and diagrams clearly identify the floor plan of the building you are in, the exit routes for the building, the location of firefighting equipment and they also clearly identify the nominated external Assembly Area for the building. Aviation Australia encourages all students to familiarise themselves with the location of the relevant Assembly Area for the building.

Snake Safety
In the case that a snake is located within the training facility, follow the ‘Snake Safety’ policy steps below:
� Please remain calm and assume the snake to be venomous – do not attempt to touch or pick up the snake
� Notify anyone nearby to stay away from the area – and alert someone to tell a staff member
� The staff member will inspect the site and make an assessment
� Someone should stand guard while a staff member notifies the appropriate snake catcher to contain the snake safely

3.4 Discrimination & Sexual Harassment
Aviation Australia is committed to protecting the rights of both staff and students to achieve their full potential in an environment which values cultural diversity and is free from racial discrimination or harassment. Such an environment is one which positive actions are taken to:
� Discourage racial discrimination and harassment in its structures and its learning environment. � Affirm and value cultural diversity.
A student who believes that he/she is being discriminated against should contact the General Manager.
No student is expected to put up with sexual harassment. Independent counsellors will be made available to provide personal advice and support in dealing with the feelings caused by the harassment and the referral. Sexual harassment counsellors can also provide advice about the options available for resolving the problem.
In the first instance, concerns should be reported to a member of staff that the student feels comfortable with, who will immediately notify a member of Senior Management, who will proceed to investigate the claim.
All have the right to feel safe as students at Aviation Australia, and to have an unhindered opportunity to achieve their full potential. Students should not allow sexual harassment to interfere with their studies or their life at Aviation Australia. Remember there are personnel available to help, and the law is supportive.
3.5 Smoking, Drugs & Alcohol
Government policy prohibits smoking inside buildings. Smoking is prohibited on the tarmac area and within prescribed distances of parked aircraft, buildings, refuelling installations and vehicles. Smoking is not permitted in any area of Aviation Australia other than the designated smoking area.
The use of non-‐medically prescribed drugs by students or staff of Aviation Australia is strictly prohibited. The aviation industry employs zero tolerance in relation to the non-‐medical use of drugs. Many aviation companies perform drug testing prior to any offer to prospective employees.
Persons thought to be under the influence of drugs will not be permitted to work on aircraft or any other projects and will be denied access to all Aviation Australia facilities. Persons found using and/or dealing in drugs whilst attending Aviation Australia will be reported to the appropriate authorities and may be removed from course.
The consumption of alcohol by students and/or staff during working hours is not permitted at Aviation Australia. Exceptions are made for occasional afternoon social activities, which are sponsored by Aviation Australia and supervised by Aviation Australia staff. Under-‐age drinking is not permitted at any time under any circumstances.
Persons found to be under the influence of alcohol will not be permitted to work on aircraft or any other projects and will be denied access to all Aviation Australia workshop facilities.

3.6 Complaints & Appeals
Aviation Australia has a fair and equitable process for dealing with student complaints and appeals. In the event that complaints cannot be resolved internally, we will advise the student of the appropriate body where they can seek further assistance. All written

complaints and appeals will be treated in confidence and a decision relayed to the student as soon as possible.
Aviation Australia will maintain the students’ enrolment throughout the process; however Aviation Australia reserves the right to withhold learning opportunities should it be deemed the most appropriate temporary solution.

3.7 Code of Conduct
STAFF
Employees of Aviation Australia have adopted the following code of conduct and agree to:
� Abide by the policies and practices established by this organisation, � Comply with the requirements of all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements; this includes the National VET
Regulations, Aviation Regulations and applicable workplace health and safety laws, � Accept responsibility for their own actions, to act professionally, and give the highest standards of service to students and
the public, � Strive to improve their knowledge, skills and quality of their work for the benefit of the Aviation Australia and students, � Act in a way that will promote cooperation and good relations among their work environment, � Work efficiently and effectively with integrity and objectivity and strive to find and use more efficient, economical and
effective ways of performing their job, � Treat customers, students, fellow employees and the public fairly and professionally, � Avoid real or apparent conflict of interests, � Act in a way that will enhance the integrity, reputation and image of Aviation Australia, and � Actively promote safety within Aviation Australia and the wider aviation industry.
STUDENTS
The Code of Conduct (Students) sets out the organisations expectations of students with respect to their academic and personal conduct. Students will be expected to read and accept the full Code of Conduct upon Induction / Orientation.
Primary Obligations
This policy sets out the primary obligations of students/trainees at Aviation Australia, with respect to their personal and professional conduct, in that there is;
� An obligation to act with integrity in academic work, to ensure that all academic work is conducted ethically and safely, � An obligation to observe standards of equity and respect in all dealings with every member of Aviation Australia staff, � An obligation to use and care for Aviation Australia resources in a lawful and appropriate manner, � A requirement to observe and obey the laws of the State and Commonwealth Governments of Australia, � A requirement to observe and obey all the statutes, rules and policies of Aviation Australia and the Brisbane Airport
Corporation (BAC).
General Obligations
� Students have an obligation to inform themselves of Aviation Australia’s rules and policies that directly affect them, � Students must ensure their contact details are up to date and that they regularly read all emails sent to their provided
email addresses by Aviation Australia, � Students must identify themselves truthfully when required to do so and produce their student ID card on the request of
an Aviation Australia staff member.
Respect for Persons Aviation Australia students and trainees are to treat other students, staff, customers, and members of the community equitably and with respect at all times. This involves:

� Courtesy and responsiveness in dealing with others, � Not engage in any unlawful discrimination, such as gender, race, religion, etc., � Avoiding behaviour which might reasonably be perceived as harassing, bullying or intimidating, � Follow all reasonable and lawful instructions / directions given by Aviation Australia staff members.
Integrity in Academic Work Students are expected to:
� Ensure they meet the Attendance and Academic Course Progress expectations as stated in Aviation Australia policies AA POL 40a (Course Attendance) and AA POL 40b (Course Progress),
� Conduct themselves honestly and in compliance with Aviation Australia’s policies & operating procedures, � Not engage in plagiarism or other academic misconduct, � Actively participate in all classroom / practical training activities and learning processes, � Attend all scheduled course teaching activities / classes and submit assessment tasks on time, � Behave ethically, avoiding any action or behaviour that would unfairly disadvantage or advantage either themselves or
another student, � Ensure the proper use of Aviation Australia copyright materials and courseware, � Ensure their academic activities are conducted safely and do not place others at risk of harm, � Be familiar with the programs and resources available to assist them in conducting their studies, � Not behave in any way which impairs the reasonable freedom of other persons to pursue their studies, � Not participate in any learning activity, such as, tutorials, workshops or classes whilst under the influence of alcohol or
other illicit drugs, � Students are not permitted to use any unauthorised electronic devices (i.e. mp3 players / iPod’s, mobile telephones etc.)
whilst participating in any instructional classroom / workshop activities,
Equity and Respect Students/Trainees are expected to:
� Treat all Aviation Australia Staff, other students/trainees and visitors to Aviation Australia with courtesy, tolerance and respect. This extends to teaching staff, supervisors and others involved in workplace training and fieldwork,
� Respect the rights of others to be treated equitably, free from all forms of unlawful discrimination and harassment, including sexual harassment,
� Respect the rights of others to express political and religious views and not engage in behaviour that is obscene, dangerous or could reasonably be considered to be offensive to others,
� Not engage in behaviour that is unlawful, discriminatory, harassing, or bullying, � Not engage in behaviour that is perceived to be threatening or intimidating or causes any person to fear for their personal
safety or well-‐being, � Not behave in a way that disrupts or interferes with any teaching, instruction or academic activity of Aviation Australia.
Student Safety and Welfare Every student/trainee has a responsibility to ensure their training environment is;
� A safe place of work; � To report any unsafe / unserviceable equipment; � Encouraged to implement sound health and safety principles in all their activities.

4.0 STUDENT SERVICES Our Students Services Officers provide support to all Aviation Australia students, including welfare, counselling and general information services. The welfare of each and every student is of the utmost importance to Aviation Australia. All students have access to professional counselling services including:
� Personal counselling – confidential counselling to help them resolve personal problems which are affecting their progress at Aviation Australia,
� Vocational guidance – vocational counselling to assist students to clarify goals and to make the best choice of subjects/modules to achieve their goals,

� Educational counselling – for students experiencing difficulty in attaining their goals.
4.1 Parking & Public Transport
Brisbane: Student parking is located at Melia Street (off Boronia Road) directly south of the Aviation Australia Corporate Centre. Cost of parking (at time of publishing) is $2.00 AUD per day. The Aviation Australia precinct is controlled by Brisbane Airport Corporation. Parking outside nominated areas may attract fines. Student parking is not available in the staff car park. Translink provides bus service routes that stop outside of Aviation Australia. Visit the Translink site for information -‐ http://translink.com.au/
Cairns: Student parking is available at the front of the facility -‐ in front of the building along Tom McDonald Drive or at the parking lot across from the National Jet Systems Hangar. Sunbus provides regular services from the northern beaches, south to Gordonvale. A convenient bus stop is available 200 metres from the campus (on the Captain Cook Highway).
4.2 Library & Computer Services
A technical training reference library is available in both Brisbane and Cairns Training Centre’s. This is available to all students where library publications may be loaned on a short-‐term loan basis under the supervision and approval of a staff member. ‘On loan’ library materials are the responsibility of the student, and students will be required to pay full replacement cost of any items lost or damaged whilst in their charge.
All students will have access to computers at the discretion of Aviation Australia and in accordance with Aviation Australia’s Policies and Procedures. Computers & internet access are not available for use besides study related training.
4.3 Meal facilities
Each Training Centre has kitchen style facilities, with a fridge and vending machines available.
Brisbane: has canteen style meal facilities are available for purchase in the Technical Training Centre building.
Cairns: a small kiosk is located across from the building. Onsite is a kitchen, fridge, lunch room and vending machine is available.
4.4 Prayer / Personal facilities
Brisbane: a mosque prayer room facility is located for students outside the Corporate Centre facility. Students can gain access to the prayer room during business hours. Students are not permitted to bring portable heaters / cooling fans or other electrical equipment for use within the prayer room. Shower, lockers and change facilities are available in Technical Training Centre and Flight Safety Training Centre.
Cairns: there are no prayer facilities located at the training facility, however there are a number of prayer facilities around Cairns. Shower, lockers and change facilities are available in Cairns Aviation Skills Centre.
4.5 Banking & Postal Services
Banking and postal services are not available onsite at Aviation Australia. These services are available at most shopping centres, the nearest to Aviation Australia are listed below:
Brisbane: Westfield Toombul Shopping Centre, Westfield Chermside, as well as Brisbane CBD.
Cairns: Stockland Cairns and Smithfield Shopping Centre, as well as in Cairns CBD.
4.6 Lost property
Aviation Australia will not accept responsibility or liability for any personal property. Students are advised to keep personal belongings with them at all times or secure them in the personal lockers where available. If any item of personal property is lost or found it should be reported immediately to a staff member.

4.7 First Aid
First Aid kits and emergency equipment are located at appropriate points throughout the campus – including a first aid room. Students who are sick or require first aid treatment should advise the nearest staff member.
4.8 Student Portal & Online Training
The Student Portal contains important information about your enrolment including access to Policies & Procedures, your Timetable, Online Training and information on news and events. During your Induction / Orientation we will assist you with logging in.

You will receive an email from ‘[email protected]’ with the subject line ‘Aviation Australia – Access to Student Portal’ with your login information (username and password). A sample of this email is below.

UNIQUE STUDENT IDENTIFIER (USI)
From January 2015, all students completing accredited training need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Information on the USI is in the ‘Document’ section of the Student Portal. You can create a USI and save it into your Student Portal for our Training Administration team:
Q On the ‘Home’ page, scroll to the bottom to ‘Apply for new USI’ Q Already have a USI? Enter it and click on ‘Save’ Q If you don’t have a USI, click on ‘Learn more and create a USI now’. This will open up in a separate screen for
you to create your USI. Once you have created your USI, come back to the Student Portal, input it and click on ‘Save’.
Once we have a USI on file, this section will no longer be displayed in your Student Portal. Your USI will be displayed in ‘My Details’.
