Traffic Policing & ShapingTrafficPolicingenablestheprovisioningofdifferentservicelevelsbylimitingtrafficthroughputattheingress(inbound)portoftheERS8300.Thisfeatureallowslimitstobeplacedupontheamountofbandwidththatparticularusersorapplicationscanpushintothenetwork.Anassociatedcapability,CustomAuto-NegotiationAdvertisements(CANA),allowsforonlyspecifiedconnectionratestobeadvertisedbyauto-negotiation,andthereforelimitslow-prioritydevicestotheappropriateconnectionspeed.

TrafficShapingofferstheabilitytolimittrafficonegress(outbound)fromtheERS8300,typicallytocomplywithsomeformofservicetariff.EnterprisesworkingwithServiceProvidersorCarrierscanusethisfeaturewhentheydeployEthernetasanalternativetotraditionalFrameRelayorATMWANaccesssolutions.

IP Filtering & Deep Packet Pattern

MatchingIPFilterscanbeusedtomanagetrafficandprovidesecurity,byallowingthatspecificactionsareperformedwhendefinedcriteriaarematched.Onlydatathatmatchesthepatternisallowedtopassthroughthefilter,andthesefilterscanbeusedtosettrafficpriority,droporallowIPpackets,aswellasdefinetheconditionsformirroringtraffic(e.g.,IPTelephonyinaContactCenterenvironment).

DeepPacketPatternMatchingisanadvancedimplementationoffilteringthatallowsoperatorstomatchfieldsdeepwithinthepacketbyspecifyingbothanoffsetandavaluetomatch.

Integrated Time Domain
