Clean-Up Recap: This year, 6.33 tons of
bulky waste was collected, down from 9.69
tons last year. Yard debris keeps increasing,
with 4.22 tons this year (we had 2.68 tons
last year and 3.62 the year before). Our
neighborhood earned $100 for offering a re-
use area and separate metal recycling; we
earned just $35.40 this year for the recycled
metals collected. Thanks to those who volun-
teered their time to help: Terry and Nancy,
Greg, Annemarie, Linda Jo, Monte, Anna,
Terry and Cynthia, Shiela, Chelyncia, Jack,
Tom, Toby, Mike, Fred and Jeanne.

This year, the Fr. Blanchet Park
Neighborhood Association cele-
brates its 25 year anniversary as a
recognized City of Vancouver
neighborhood association. Twenty-
five years of neighbors joining to-
gether for the best interest of the
neighborhood; neighbor helping neighbor;
neighbors celebrating together. Come to the holi-
day party and celebrate. We will be honored by
the city with a cake at an upcoming meeting. As a
recognized city neighborhood, we get benefits
such as an Annual Neighborhood Clean Up, Yard
Debris coupons, tire disposal coupons, opportuni-
ties to participate in Recycling Training, and sup-
port from the city Office of Neighborhoods.
District 3 Welcomes new
Neighborhood Police Officer
Welcome Clesson Werner! NPO’s are the
liaisons to the citizens within their dis-
trict and are available to meet with
neighbors to discuss crime issues, liv-
ability issues, attend community meet-
ings and answer questions about crime
trends and prevention. NPO’s are the
main contact person for neighbors
within a district when there are crime
issues or other concerns that the police
department can assist with. These offi-
cers work cross departmentally as well
to assist citizens with problem solving
strategies.
Heights District Area:
The area surrounding The
Heights District is home to
some of Vancouver’s oldest
neighborhoods, best views,
and busiest corridors. It is rich
in parks, schools, open space
and recreation opportunities,
as well commercial busi-
nesses, non-profits, and or-
ganizations that serve the
needs of Vancouver’s diverse
communities. In order to es-
tablish a vision for the area
and guide its future growth
and development, the City of
Vancouver is leading a com-
munity planning process for
The Heights District, which is
identified as a future urban
center in the City’s Compre-
hensive Plan.
Help Build A Stronger Vancouver
Please give your feedback on how we can achieve our community’s vision for the future! Vancouver is growing. More people and more businesses mean a greater demand for City services and a growing desire for more programs and amenities. However, the revenues that pay for City services don’t keep up with the growing demand, costs or inflation. Our community aspires to improve public safety, transportation, parks, economic development, homeless services, and cultural experiences, and following the recent implementation of funding strategies for our streets, police and affordable housing, the City has continued to work with the community on the development of a proposed service and funding package for a range of programs (services for people) and capital investments (assets like buildings and parks) focused on economic development, parks and public safety. The proposed package includes $240 million of new capital projects and $16 million of new annual operating programs with three scenarios, utilizing a mix of different revenue tools, identified as possible ways to fund these projects and programs. The Stronger Vancouver website, www.strongervancouver.org, includes detailed information on the investment areas and revenue tools, in addition to a calculator where you can find out what each of the potential revenue scenarios would mean for your household or business. Please visit the website to learn more and leave your feedback!
