ARCH 101 MIDTERM
PORTFOLIO---JIAJIEYIN
INTRODUCTION
It is my first semester try to really join in the arch group, learning
how to built my skill in order to deeply understand, what is the really
meaning for designer. First a few weeks I have no idea what’s the
design means, after that I have a little senesce what is that means.
FIRST WEEK-ICE BREAKER
Icebreaker Exercise: from words to form as an abstract personification of
you Consider this algorithm to carefully craft a phrase that hierarchically
best describes your personal qualities: (adv., adj) + (adv., verb.) + (adv.,
adj.) = me; as an example: creatively adventurous, persistently seeking,
empathetically responsive. Using this descriptive set of words, construct a
small-scale construction that can be hand-held in your palm in any
position (i.e. your construction may not have a base) that is an a abstract
personification of yourself.
FIRST TRY
I don’t have any idea how to start this project, and I start to identity
myself. What kind a person I want to be what the answer is be as
slippery as an eel, which mean’s I won’t be other people hurt and I
don’t hurt any one.
I do this project don’t have any
angle and have elasticity. So it is
the person I want to be. But the
design look so boring.
Good: I don’t all teacher want
us to do
Bad: I have no idea what I
should start and make
the things looks so
bad…
SECOND ICE-BREAKER
After the class no one like my
first object. So what I do is
start a new one make more
complexes and use different
colors. But it start become
meaningless.
COMPARE 1 ST AND 2ND
ICEBREAKER
The second item it better than the first one but it loss the meaning
and still it look like kids doing the work but I still like those two items.
I spend time on it and I try my ways to make them better.
Problem: In my deep mind I believe the simple things look
most nature and beautiful so when I start work on my items. I
am confuse between petty and looks like kids made it.
THIRD ICE BREAKER
Activities: develop a narrative or story that relates to your present
design in terms of its scale (in relationship to the size of a human),
purpose, and environment; and use this narrative to focus the
evolution of subsequent iterations that increase in both complexity
and beauty. Represent your design as both a Sketch Up model and
another actual physically constructed model.
Old one
New one
I do it like this because I believe when we grow up any things, event happens on me all
have changed me a little bit and some may influence my whole life. So I separate 20 parts
(0-19 years old). And I am the white globe under the twenty sides. My life my experience
is used to limited me, at the same time protect me. The four colors are opposite red
against blue (my enthusiasm and my grim) yellow against purple (light and dark). Why I
use the globe because it is the shape hardest be damage, instead the smart way to my
social life. Last the nail, how deep the nail in the side means how important things happen
to me and that year happen is influence my future. (ex, the deepest three, one is I leave
my hometown to shanghai, one is I leave china to united states, and the last is I almost
dead of disease).

Using the illustrated examples shown above, create similar
proportional studies that apply various proportional systems.
2: In lieu of using my illustrated examples for inspiration, use your
last constructed iteration and perform all 4 activities listed directly
above.
This item design by Fibonacci Series use the small squares against the big
squares. The side way used push bottom make the connection.
Good: it is like a design item is the best part, and followed all the
required.
Bad: I don’t know what to explain my idea.
SPACE
Use a matrix to generate generic spatial compositions – what are the
possibilities?
a. Develop a matrix in table form which has two contrasting sets of
variables, e.g. defining space with
horizontal planes vs. defining space with vertical elements b. In drawing
form, create a 2D visual matrix of the table developed directly above. c. In
drawing form, use your 2D visual matrix to create a 3D array of diverse
spaces
d. All drawing shall be 11-inch x 17-inch e. Matrix in table format, 2D
visual matrix are both due for midweek review f. 3D array of diverse
spaces are due at the beginning of next week
SPATIAL RELATIONSHIPS
1. Space within a space
2. 2. Interlocking spaces
3. 3. Adjacent spaces
4. Space linked by a common space
Good: I understand what the assignment try to learn us to do and
I used the smart way to do it.
Bad: nothing creative it make me feel so bored to do it.
SPACE
Create a drawn 3D composition that is a journey of the following
events and spatial experiences:
i. Welcoming and comfortable
ii. Awesome and monumental
iii. Intimate and tranquil
Well come is the super big
place to well coming the
people.
Awesome and
monumental is the big
place connect with the
Intimate and tranquil
Is the wood room in
the top of the base.
Base on the model I just show cannot be build so I change to the
other one
MODEL WITH THE SITE
SUM-UP
This item have a lot of disagreement and many different thought,
most people just think it is a good beginning, but I believe it is a good
work. Because the site I choose gulf. So the side I don’t want to be
too high. And the side I choose to make a hole just like picture shows.
Good it is the best job I did the idea to the way I put the things
tougher. I try my best and it looks really good.
Bad I cannot tell my idea so I cannot explain well and get the
comment I want.
