Infant Swim Class to Begin at Arbor Greene
We are all aware of the dangers that swimming
pools and other aquatic environments pose, es-
pecially here in Florida. Our State leads the na-
tion in accidental drowning deaths for children
ages 4 and under.
The Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) is a na-
tionally recognized organization that teaches
self-rescue swimming skills to children from 6
months to 6 years. Children learn to hold their
breath under water, roll onto their back and
float, rest, and breathe, and roll back over to
resume swimming until they reach the side of
the pool and can crawl out.
Each lesson is taught privately for a maximum
of 10 minutes, 5 days a week, Monday-Friday,
until these skills are mastered.

act!
It is considered a

holiday, and is observed on November 11th, the an-
niversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended
World War I. It is also celebrated as Armistice Day
or Remembrance Day in other parts of the world.
In honor of our Veterans, the Administration
Office will be closed for business. The Club House
and Aerobics Room will be opened regular hours,

Please fly your American flag on this special day
to honor our veterans.
Happy Veterans Day!!
Do You Live On An Easement?
It is important to understand what effect an easement has on
your property. There are different types of easements such as
drainage, conservation, and lake access, just to name some of
them. Each of these easements serve a particular purpose to al-
low access to these areas for the maintenance of the utilities
and services for all owners and all common property.
Easements for drainage and for the installation and mainte-
nance of utilities are reserved as shown on the Plat or Plats of
the property. Within these easements, you may not install any
structure, planting, or other material which may impede the
flow of water through the drainage channels in the easements. It is important that all banks, swales, and
berms that constitute a part of any lake, and any swales and drainage canals located within the property re-
main undisturbed and properly maintained in order to perform their functions.
Easements for the installation and maintenance of utilities are also reserved as shown on the Plat or Plats of
the property. Within these easements, you may not install any structure, planting, fences, trees, or other ob-
jects or other material which will impede or obstruct the maintenance of existing, or installation of new
utilities. The easement area on each lot or residential unit and all improvements within it must be continu-
ously maintained by the owner, except for those improvements for which a public authority or utilities
company is responsible. The CDD must approve any changes to your home or property if the changes will
impact the functions of an easement.

The First Thanksgiving
When people think of Thanksgiving, most remember the story of the
Pilgrims and the Indians at Plymouth Rock. The Pilgrims first arrived in
America on December 11, 1620, not prepared for the winter they were
to face. Out of the 102 who arrived on the Mayflower, forty-six of the
people died during the first few months. Despite the devastation, they
had a good harvest, partly in thanks to the Indians who lived nearby.
They had a traditional British Harvest Feast in thanks to God for surviv-
ing and the blessings of provisions that would see them through the
winter. In contrast to our modern Thanksgiving menu, they actually had
more meat than vegetables, including venison, fish and wild foul, which
may or may not have actually been turkey. They probably didn't have
much in the way of desserts, as they didn't have a lot of flour or sugar
on hand. They probably had some fruits and corn. Instead of pumpkin
pie, they probably had boiled pumpkin. The first Thanksgiving feast
lasted for three days.
Thanksgiving was not an annual event in the U.S. for many years. In 1623, there was a drought and instead
of having a celebration, the Pilgrims held a prayer service. When their prayers were answered the next day,
they invited their Indian friends to join them in another Thanksgiving observance.
June 20, 1676 was celebrated as a day of Thanksgiving in Charlestown, Massachusetts. However this was
very different than the first Thanksgiving. This was to celebrate a victory over the Indians. Another vic-
tory, this time over the British, was celebrated in October of 1677 by all of the thirteen colonies. George
Washington established the first national Thanksgiving day in 1789. However, not everyone thought it was
a good idea, including Thomas Jefferson.
It wasn't until 1863 that what we know as our modern Thanksgiving came into being. Sarah Josepha Hale
decided to promote Thanksgiving in her magazine, Boston Ladies' Magazine and in Godey's Lady's Book.
She also wrote letters to different governors and presidents. Abraham Lincoln finally established Thanks-
giving as the last Thursday in November. The date was changed a few times (to the third Thursday), but in
1941 was finally established on its current date, the fourth Thursday in November. Over the years, it has
drifted away from its original focus on being thankful, and has become a day to eat and watch football.
While those aren't bad things, it is good for people to take the time to actually be thankful for their bless-
ings.

A Message from the Neighborhood Watch Directors
Gate Security and Our Safety Main Gate House Security.
In Arbor Greene (AG), the main gate attendants are present to greet visitors, provide directions, and ensure there is
―controlled‖ access to the community by obtaining data from visitors and workers. The attendants obtain information
from visitors and workers so there is a limited record regarding who enters AG. The attendants are not contracted to
respond to suspicious persons or activities in the community, or dial 9-1-1 for residents. We as homeowners should
call the TPD Suspicious Activity number (813-231-6130) to report suspicious person(s) or activities. AG residents
should dial 9-1-1 if they suspect a crime has occurred or is about to happen against person(s) or property so they can
provide critical information to 9-1-1 operators.
Sub-communities Security.
Arbor Greene has five sub-communities which have ―internal‖ gates: Enclave, Estuary, Devonshire, Retreat, and
Parkview. Carriage Homes’ gates will be operational once construction is completed. The residents in these sub-
communities use a remote transmitter to open the gates or provide the AG administration office with an individual
code which is entered into the gate system. Homeowners can sparingly give this code to family members, contrac-
tors, etc. to allow them to open the gates when they are not home. By restricting who is given this individual code,
residents help limit who enters their sub-community. For efficiency of service and safety, the CDD has provided an
access code to the police, US Postal personnel, FedEx, and UPS. Fire department and emergency rescue personnel
have a separate key to open all gates.
If people ―tailgate‖ through either the main gate or sub-community gates, please do not confront them; however,
please attempt to gather the vehicle description and possibly license plate number to report to the TPD Suspicious
Activity line.

School Bus Etiquette
Unfortunately, as the
school year starts, we
fall back into our old
habits at the school
bus pick-up points.
We’ve all seen the
lines of cars parked
with parents and kid-
dies waiting for the
bus, blocking traffic
and making exit from and entry to some communities
(the Landing and now the Estuary and Enclave) dif-
ficult, if not impossible for other residents. It is against
the law, (besides being extremely dangerous), to park
in a way that impedes normal traffic flow. The Tampa
Police Department has been notified of the situation and
will stop by from time to time. Warnings may not be
given. So, ask yourself: am I really going to park here
and block the road today, and possibly get a ticket? Or,
maybe I should walk them to the bus stop; it’s beautiful
out and it’s great exercise? Parents: Do not stop on
road right of ways to pick up your child/children.
Use the Community Center parking lot.

Tampa's Water Use Restrictions Enforcement Returns To Normal Know Your Days – Avoid A Fine
The City of Tampa began issuing citations on first observance for all water use restrictions
violations at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, October 4, 2010. Residents and businesses are urged to
make sure they are using the correct days to avoid receiving a citation, and a fine.
When the region returned to year-round twice-a-week watering allowances at the beginning
of July, assigned irrigation days changed inside Tampa's city limits. Since then the City im-
plemented a courtesy adjustment period during which warning letters, and not citations, were
issued for first time observed day-of-the-week violations. The 3-month warning period ends
on Sunday.
Water Enforcement Officers patrol throughout Tampa’s city limits 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Violating Tampa’s water
use restrictions may result in fines ranging from $100 to $450 and a mandatory court appearance.
Tampa's year-round irrigation schedule is:
At addresses ending in 0, 1, 2, or 3: on Mondays and Thursdays;
At addresses ending in 4, 5, or 6: on Tuesdays and Fridays;
At addresses ending in 7, 8, or 9: on Wednesdays and Saturdays;
At locations with no address (common areas, entry areas), and locations with mixed addresses (office com-
plexes, shopping centers): on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Irrigation between the hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. is prohibited. Micro-irrigation and other low-volume irrigation of non-turf land-
scaping are allowed on an as-needed basis, with no restrictions on days or times. There are also no day or time restrictions on
the use of reclaimed water. Car washing: Washing of cars, trucks, and other mobile equipment is allowed on an as-needed ba-
sis, during any day or time, as long as water is used effectively (automatic shut-off nozzle). More information on Tampa's water
use restrictions is available online at TampaGov.net/WaterRestrictions or by calling (813) 274-8032.
Note to Residents: Effective Nov. 15th, the rear
access gate to the tennis courts will no longer be
open. Please use the front gate by the fitness pool.
