TaskDetermination of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/PCDFs) and polychlorinated
biphenyls (PCBs) in water.
Method descriptionDetermination of PCDD/PCDFs, PCBs, co-PCBs and other POPs in water samples (YKAT M08)
lytes were extracted from water sample with toluene. Solvent was exchanged to hexane and sample was
purified on a silica gel column, an activated carbon column and an activated alumina column
13C-labelled PCDD/PCDFs (attogether 16 standards) were used as internalstandards to quantitate the amount of
PCDDs/PCDFS .
13C-[abelled PCB congeners (PCB 28,52,80, 101, 105, 114, 118, 123, 128, 138, 153, 156, I57,167,170, 180,189, 194
and 209) and r3C-labelled non-ortho- (co-PCB) congeners (PCB 77, 81, 126 and 169) were used as internal standards
for PCBs and co-planar PCBs.
The quantification PCDD/PCDF and PCB congeners was performed by an Agilent 7010 GC-MSMS system with
column DB-5 MS (60 m, lD 0.25 mm, 0.25 ¡lm).
The analyticaI method is accredited.
Limits of quantification for individuat PCDD/PCDF compounds were 0.072- 0.51 pg/1. The limit of quantification ofindividuaI PCB congeners ranged between 0.18 -280 pg/t.

Determination of PCDD/Fs and PCBs in fish samples
Method
Determination of PCDD/PCDFs, PCBs, co-PCBs and other POPs in tissue samples (YKAT M03)
The tissues were thoroughly homogenized and dried.
Analytes were extracted using accelerated solvent extraction (Dionex ASE 300) with a mixture of toluene and
ethanol (85/15 v/v). The solvent was exchanged to hexane and fat percentage was determined gravimetrica[[y.
Sample was purified on a silica gel column, an activated carbon column and an activated alumina column.
Altogether 16 13C-labe[led PCDDi Fs were used as internalstandards to quantify the amount of PCDD/Fs. 13C-
labelled PCB congeners28,52,80, 101, 105, 114, 118, 123, 128, 138, 153, 156, I57,167,170, 180, 189, 194 and 209,
and 13C-[abelled non-ortho (coplanar) congeners 77,8I, 126 and 169 were used as internaI standards for PCBs.
Analytes were quantified by an Agitent 7010 GC-MSMS system with column DB-5 MS (60 m, lD 0.25 mm, 0.25 pm).
The analytical method is accredited.
Limits of quantification for individual analytes were:o PCDD/Fs: 0.0028-0.048 pglg fresh weighto PCBs: 0.0015-0.056 pglg fresh weight
