PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Our New Model A year is off and running. Our January tour planning meeting facilitated a good discussion and listing of Model A activities. With members planning on attending the National tour in Knaab, Utah and a Regional tour to Des Moines, Iowa, there will be a couple of opportunities for distant road tripping. If you choose to stay local (in Kansas) Kathy and I will again be leading a group on The Big Kansas Road Trip 2019. This will be the 2nd year that the Kansas Sampler Foundation will be hosting this event which promotes Kansas. To discuss this event and acquaint all of us with the Kansas Sampler Foundation, Ms. Marci Penner and Wen Dee Rowe (co authors of “The Kansas Guidebook 2 for ex-plores”) will be guest speakers at our March meeting. Ms. Penner and Ms. Rowe spent parts of four years driving back roads and looking at every one of the 626 incorporated towns and cities in Kansas to call out interesting facts and sites. The Big Kansas Road Trip was made for Model A’ing. Mike James President
WICHITA A’S MEETING MINUTES Minisa Park, January 28, 2019
President Mike James called the January 28, 2019 meeting of the Wichita A’s to order. Guest Eric Schoenecker asked if any of the members could lend him assistance in getting his Cabriolet back on the road. There were no minutes from No-vember meeting to approve. Both the McPherson College Auto Restoration Department and MAFFI sent requests for our support. Action on these requests is pending. Secretary Dawna Ruggles gave the treasurer’s report for treasurer Claudia Ellerman. Susan Stone gave the Sunshine report for Bonita Graham who is having problems with her hip. Both Dennis Schroeder and Winston Hinkle have passed away. Pauletta is in ill health and Mary Brashear is having trouble with her shoulder. A big “thank you” to Susan Stone for getting our new rosters distributed. Jim Broadhead and Don Grabendike reviewed the past New Year’s Day Tour. Vice President , Linda Kibbe announced the Iowa Meet on June 10-15. She has made room reservations at the Sheridan Hotel in Des Moines for those who wish to attend. Call Richard Kibbe if planning on attending. President Mike reminded the club about nominations for Maffi Bricks and about signing up for monthly refreshments. After refreshments provided by Rita Hoffmans, Sheila Orr, Dave Dreiling, Bob Broeckelman and Brenda Broadhead, tour director, Don Grabendike guided the club in its yearly tour planning. Meeting Adjourned, Dawna Ruggles Secretary
Alan and I just returned from a trip to Savanah, Georgia and St. Augustine, Fl. South of Savanah we found a town of Richmond Hills which caught our eye as it advertised a Henry Ford Museum. After reaching the town, we drove down Ford Avenue to reach the Museum.. After entering we found out this museum had nothing to do with cars, but about how Henry Ford came to the area and accumulated 70,000 acres of land. He had a personal research laboratory trying to find a way to grow rubber trees and other products used for the cars. Although that was not successful, he also address social and economic problems of the area and provided them with healthcare and education. Basically, he experimented with the area, built schools, clinics, libraries, houses, chapels and brought in equipment and teachers. An entire town and commu-nity was built . Seems Henry Ford was way ahead of his time, not just about cars, but had a strong belief in community and growing. A very interesting guide with a wealth of information on Henry and the history in Richmond Hills. Very worthwhile, if you are in the area! Sheila Orr-Editor

1. Start engine and let run for 15 minutes to bring engine to normal operating temperatures.
2. 2. Advanced throttle to a road speed of about 30 mph. 3. Hold the palm of hand partially over the carburetor air in-
take throat to restrict some of the incoming air. PASSED Normal carburetor mixture should be somewhat on the lean side. Restricting some of the air input will enrich the mix-ture and the engine should speed up slightly. FAILED When input air is restricted, and if engine speeds up considerably, the mixture is too lean. If engine doesn’t speed up at all, the mixtures is too rich. CORRECTIVE ACTION If mixture test indicates too lean a fuel mixture, open the gas mixture/choke adjustment 1/4 turn counter clockwise (CCW) and repeat test. If test indicates too rich fuel mixture, close the mixture/choke adjustment 1/4 turn clockwise (CW) and repeat test. If no change in test results, overhaul carburetor.
