UNITED WAY OF KENNEBEC VALLEY

ANNUAL REPORT 2018

MESSAGE TOTHE COMMUNITY

On behalf of United Way’s Board of Directors, I would like to thank everyone who donated time, money, and resources to the United Way campaign in 2018. Your continued support of this remarkable organization allows the United Way to fund many important programs throughout Kennebec Valley. These programs have helped our community members accomplish their dreams and live more fulfilling lives.

My time as board chair continues to be exciting and rewarding. Working with Chris and Gabby Russell, this year’s campaign chairs, to “Power

the Dream” has been an amazing experience. This theme perfectly embodies the work that United Way does every day. Together, we are powering the dreams of many of our community members, impacting the lives of 1 out of every 4 people who live in the Kennebec Valley. United Way could not achieve this without your help. We are blessed to live and work in a community that cares so deeply for its neighbors. Your support will continue to power the dream for many of the partner agencies United Way supports. Thank you again for your caring and commitment to our neighbors.

The United Way team at NRF Distributors consistently leads an impressive fundraising effort by hosting weekly special events, keeping United Way top of mind for all employees. Campaign Managers are the driving force behind the success of any campaign, and the enthusiasm and dedication of this group enables NRF’s campaign to grow year after year.

Townsquare Media partnered with United Way to host a new Employee Giving Campaign this year, putting forth a standout effort and achieving strong results. In addition, Townsquare Media employees have stepped up to become Emerging Leaders and have joined several United Way committees. United Way’s ongoing success is a direct result of business collaboration, and new partnerships are essential to expanding our impact.

The City of Augusta hosted a strong campaign, increasing employee giving by 19 percent and encouraging new donations. In particular, departments found creative ways to engage staff. United Way is also grateful for its partnership with the City of Augusta to host Day of Caring events and collaborate on community needs.

Wipfli/Macpage led an impressive campaign, increasing giving by 22 percent and maintaining 100 percent staff participation. In addition, Wipfli/Macpage supports United Way’s many initiatives beyond the campaign season. This award is given to a company with up to 34 employees that has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to United Way’s mission.

Campaign Chairs Chris and Gabby Russell present this award to Lajoie Brothers for the company’s outstanding contributions to the community through United Way. In particular, leaders broadened campaign efforts in innovative ways to acheive a 42 percent increase in giving. Lajoie Brothers also implemented a dollar-for-dollar employee match gift, setting a strong example for others in the community. This award is given annually to an entity that truly exemplifies what it means to LIVE UNITED.

Central Maine Power Company’s multifaceted support of United Way has been instrumental to the campaign’s overall success. Under the leadership of new CMP President and CEO Doug Herling and with the efforts of a creative, company-wide fundraising team, CMP increased staff participation in the UWKV campaign by 85 percent and total giving by 64 percent. CMP is also a reliable partner on initiatives like the fall school supply collection, food pantry program, and more. This award is given to a company with 35+ employees that has demonstrated outstanding United Way leadership.

This award is presented to a group or individual in recognition of exceptional community service. This year, United Way honors the Capital Area New Mainers Project (CANMP), which thoughtfully welcomes immigrants to the Greater Augusta community. CANMP also continues to develop central Maine into a multicultural hub and an ever-more welcoming place for all. The award is named for Norm Temple, an outstanding community leader and volunteer with United Way and other local organizations.

GIVE. ADVOCATE. VOLUNTEER. LIVE UNITED.
