Anastomosis in Lower Limb
Rasha M Elshinety, PhD, MDLecturer of Anatomy & Emryology
1 -Anastomosis between superior and inferior gluteal arteries
Arterial Anastomosis of the Lower Limb
• They serve as collateral circulation between arteries of lower limb and above
2- Anastomosis around ASIS
It composed of:1. Superficial circumflex iliac artery 2. Deep circumflex iliac artery3. Lateral circumflex femoral artery4. Superior gluteal artery
3 -Trochanteric Anastomosis:
• Is present in the trochanteric fossa of the femur and is composed of:
1. Inferior branch of superior gluteal artery.2. Inferior gluteal artery.3. Ascending branch of medial circumflex
femoral artery. It gives the main supply for the head of femur
4- Cruciate Anastomosis
• It lies at the level of the middle of lesser trochanter (upper part of adductor magnus)
• It is composed of:1. Ascending branch of first perforator2. Descending branch of inferior gluteal3. Transverse branch of medal circumflex femoral 4. Transverse branch of lateral circumflex femoral
5 -perforating branches of profunda femoris artery:
• It is the series of anastomosis between the perforating branches of femoral artery. Superiorly they join the cuciate anastomosis and inferiorly they join the muscular branch of popliteal artery.
6 -Anastomosis around knee joint
• It is composed of:1. Genicular branches of popliteal artery2. Tibial recurrent branches of anterior tibial
artery3. Circumflex fibular artery from posterior tibial
aretry
7 -Anastomosis at the ankle and foot
1. Medial and Lateral malleolar networks2. Anastomosis between medial and lateral
plantar arteries
