+ Aging infrastructure

Where’s the data? We have to

move it!

With EZID: all your references, citations, links, etc. will be stable!

I know where my data is and I’m

taking it with me!

Page 10: An Introduction to EZID

• Create a persistent identifier: DOI or ARK• Add object location• Add metadata• Update object location• Update object metadata

ARK vs DOI

http://content.cdlib.org/ark:/13030/kt596nc6zg, Courtesy of the Anaheim Public Library

• both can work like regular hyperlinks.• both can refer to a

subset or portion of a resource.

• both become persistentwhen the target URL is maintained.

Page 14: An Introduction to EZID

ARK vs DOI

• Flexible• Case-sensitive• Special features support granularity• Can be deleted• Inexpensive

Page 15: An Introduction to EZID

ARK vs DOI

• Established brand in publishing• Indexed by major A&I citation databases • DataCite policies apply• Cannot be deleted• More costly

Page 16: An Introduction to EZID

Next steps for EZID• Enhanced persistence support

– Automated link checking– Tombstone pages

• Exposure for citations– Thomson-Reuters (Web of Knowledge)– Elsevier (Scopus)– OAI– GoogleScholar

• More metadata support– full DataCite metadata scheme– cross scheme mapping

• UI redesign– Activity reporting– Browse & search
