60th Anniversary of
County Conservation!

A COUNTY CONSERVATION SURGE AT THE CAPITOL
AN EPIC PRESENCE!
60 Years
110+ Representatives from 47
CCBs, CCB Alumni and other
stakeholders from across the state
descending on the Capitol this past
Monday to advocate FUNDING THE
TRUST! This unprecedented show of
support by county conservation made
a significant impact in the eyes of our
legislators, as well as the other
partners in this effort. MANY KUDOS
to those of you that could make time in
your busy schedules to trek down to
Des Moines and participate in this
landmark show of support. Unofficial
estimates put our total crowd in
excess of 300 activists for the day! ☺ - CCBs with representatives at IWILL Lobby Day.
OATH OF OFFICE TO 2 NEW IACCB BOARD MEMBERS 2015 IACCB President, Richard Harms (Bremer) administered the oath of
office yesterday to Mark Vavroch (Poweshiek) and Larry Wilson (Johnson) as
they start their 3-year terms on the state board of directors. Mark was recently
elected as an employee representative by IACCBE at Winterfest; and Larry is
the new District 6 board member representative. Both Districts 1 and 2 will be
electing board member representatives in 2015 – any board members with an
interest or questions – please contact Tom at [email protected]
Sooooo…….WHAT’S NEXT IN THE IWILL ARENA? All those pieces of the puzzle we have been pushing out to you – getting educated,
advocating at legislative forums, letters to the editor, etc. – are all still in play here. We will
continue to place resources for you in our Portal “IWILL INFORMATION” file (listed on
left) – some important ones there now include: the 1.15.2015 Trust Fund Report; the
“Un-Met Needs of County Conservation” report; a listing of upcoming Legislative
Forums; and a Legislative Forum Guide. We are all waiting for a bill to be introduced at
the capitol so that we can focus on what needs to happen to push it towards a positive
conclusion this legislative session. Once we get news about this occurrence we will get the
word out to you all. In the meantime, we encourage you to keep the dialogue and
discussions going out there. We appreciate more than you know all that you are doing out
there – we know that you know this is important stuff! Attending/hosting legislative forums
and speaking up on behalf of IWILL is equally important as trekking down to the capitol!
This emphasis was driven home to me by the presence of so many of YOU this past
Monday, as well as our alumni – who also realize the importance of this effort for Iowa’s
natural resources. It was great to see: Doyle Adams, Steve Dermand, Steve Lekwa, Milt
Owen, Fred Heinz and Dean Mueller all joining their CCB brethren in this significant
advocacy effort! ☺
DISTRICT3 REPRESENTATIVES pause for a photo-op at the
Capitol. L-R: Dan Heissel (Clay), Miriam Patton & Mary Barrick
(Palo Alto), and Darrell Frerichs (Board Member – Clay CCB)
CCB & DNR Alumni Steve Dermand and Doyle
Adams joined other alums in the advocacy effort
at the state capitol on Monday, January 26th.
GOT BIG A** FIREPLACE? We have received an inquiry from a marketing firm ………”working with the
Tourism Office on a handful of story pitches to travel writers and media
outlets. I’d like to pitch a story that focuses on great fireplaces for winter
relaxing. Can you help me find out if there are any county parks that have a
lodge/visitor’s centers where people can drop in and enjoy an ongoing fire?
Or do you know of any really great shelter houses that have some of those big
stone fireplaces where a family or group of friends could reasonably have a
winter gathering? Get your info. to me ASAP and we can get your
facility/CCB promoted! [email protected] ☺ ☺ ☺
