Sunday 1:00pm to 5:00pm

permit. Permits can be purchased starting March 18th at Borough
Hall, Monday – Friday 9am – 4:00pm. Call 201-818-4400 ext 200 for
more information.
No plastic bags allowed, please use brown biodegradable bags or
place in container to transport grass and leaves for residents only.
NO LANDSCAPERS, CONTRACTORS OR BUSINESSES are allowed.
CUT-IT-AND-LEAVE-ITRecycling your own grass is easy and saves you, and the town, mon-
ey. Use a mulching lawnmower or replace the blade with a mulching
blade. When you cut your grass, allow it to remain on the ground
to be reabsorbed and provide vital nutrients to your grass. You save
time by not having to bag the grass and transport it to the Compost
Site. You won’t have to use as much fertilizer and the cut grass helps
reduce water evaporation so you use less water.

CERT NewsFEMA’s Community Emergency Response Team
(CERT) program educates average citizens about
disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact
their area and provides training in basic disaster
response skills, such as:
• Fire safety
• Light search and rescue
• Team organization
• Shelter fundamentals and management
• Disaster medical operations
• Disaster psychology
If you are interested in learning valuable skills to
help family, friends, and neighbors during a disaster
or emergency, consider joining Allendale’s Commu-
nity Emergency Response Team. CERT Basic Training

still contribute and make a difference even if you
don’t have a significant amount of time to volunteer.

BEAR SAFETY TIPSBlack bears by nature tend to be wary of people. Some residents may observe
black bears using yards as part of their natural travel corridors. The mere
presence of a black bear is not considered a problem. Black bear attacks are
extremely rare. However, if you encounter a black bear in your neighborhood
or outdoors while walking or hiking, follow these common-sense safety tips.
• Never feed or approach a bear!
• Remain calm. Avoid direct eye contact which may be perceived by a bear
as a challenge. Never run from a bear. Instead slowly back away.
• To scare the bear away, make loud noises by yelling,
banging pots and pans or using an airhorn. Make yourself
look as big as possible by waving your arms.
• If a bear stands on its hind legs or moves closer, it may
be trying to get a better view or detect scents in the air. It is usually not a
threatening behavior.
• If the bear does not leave, move to a secure area.
• Families who live in areas frequented by black bears should have a “Bear
Plan” in place for children, with an escape route and planned use of whistles
and air horns.
Remember: Never feed bears! It is illegal in New Jersey and its dangerous.
Anyone feeding bears could face a penalty of up to $1,000 for each offense.
Report black bear damage or nuisance behavior to the DEP’s 24-hour, toll-
free hotline at 1-877-927-6337. For information visit www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw.

Lee Memorial Library wants to hear from you!Lee Memorial Library is planning for its future as a community anchor in Allendale,
a place for connections, and a springboard to lifelong learning. In its aim to under-
stand what our residents need and want, the board of trustees is soliciting commu-
nity input through a 5-minute survey, which can be completed online through the
library web site or in paper form at various sites, including the library and Borough
Hall. The library staff and board believe that all voices matter, and hope that a broad
array of people in our community will take the opportunity to participate and be
heard - whether they visit the library every week or haven’t stepped foot in the
building for years. The ideas shared will fuel the library’s next steps and propel it
toward a future of exceptional community service and support. The survey is strictly
confidential and no personally identifying information will be
collected. To access the suuvey, visit: LeeMemorialLibrary.org
from Dec. 1, 2018 through Jan. 15, 2019.
Allendale Police Department
Please remember that there is no parking on ANY
street when it snows. The ordinance 252-81pro-
hibits parking on public streets during a snow event
as well as parking a vehicle so that it extends into the
roadway when it snows. The regulation applies when
any accumulation of snow completely covers the road-
way and obstructs road markings.
The parking prohibition remains in effect after the
snowfall has stopped and until the entire block of road-
way has been cleared of snow.
Please remember to lock your vehicle and take the
key fob with you to deter theft of the vehicle.
We encourage all residents to sign up for swiftreach
so they can be informed on all important messages
and emergencies within the borough.
The Allendale Ambulance Corps thanks the over 500 residents
who have made charitable donations to the Corps’ 2018 annual fund drive as we
continue to approach our goal.
The generosity of the residents and businesses of Allendale make our all-vol-
unteer mission possible. If you haven’t taken us up on our invitation to financially
support our all-volunteer mission, please consider doing so. Donations should be
payable to Allendale Ambulance Corps, and mailed to 26 Arcadia Rd, Allendale NJ
07401 or by using PayPal on our website: allendaleambulancecorps.org. Please
follow the Corps on Facebook as we post schedules of events such as free
Friends and Family CPR classes.
