sity.Travel can cover 3 miles along the river from the start in Allegany to 20th St. in

Trail HistoryThough many people had
envisioned a recreational path along the Allegheny River for many years, it had
remained just that - a vision. However, in 1992 Joseph Higgins, an Olean businessman, set his sights on making it a
reality. Mr. Higgins organized an effort to have the Allegheny River Valley Trail constructed, and he found a consensus of support. The
Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce agreed to be the facilitator for
the project, and the Town of Allegany agreed to be the sponsor.
The trail was completed in 1998 as an 8-10 foot wide, paved,
asphalt trail.
From Allegheny River views to covered wooded portions, you can enjoy hours on this relaxing trail that lets you experience some of
the breathtaking beauty of Cattaraugus County.
