1. All You Need To Know About The New Texas Vehicle
Registration Sticker
2. A new law updating the vehicle registration process was
passed in the Texas 2014 legislative session. This new law affects
every Texas driver.
3. We will still need to get our vehicles inspected and pay the
State for our vehicle registration yearly, but both will be
displayed as part of one sticker on your windshield; thats the
short version.
4. As it is with any law, the practical part is a bit more
complicated.
5. Vehicle Registration Renewal Is Still The Same. As of March
1, 2015, you will have to get your vehicle registration renewed
when it is due; that doesnt change.
6. The only difference is that your vehicles inspection must be
up-to-date before they will allow you to renew your vehicle
registration.
7. So, if your state inspection is due after your renewal, you
will be able to renew the vehicle registration normally.
8. You will then use the sticker to replace both stickers
(vehicle registration and safety inspection) that are on your
windshield.
9. Your next state inspection is not due again until right
before your next vehicle registration renewal, so you might be able
to save a few bucks.
10. What If Your State Inspection Is Due Before Or At The Same
Time As Your Vehicle Registration Renewal?
11. If your state inspection is due at the same time your
vehicle registration renewal is due, simply renew your
inspection.
12. You will be able to renew your vehicle registration once
the inspection record is in the state's databases.
13. If inspection is due before, things are only a little more
complicated.
14. Have your vehicle safety inspected in the month that it is
due.
15. You will not receive a sticker, so save the safety report
in your glove compartment.
16. You can use this to show a police officer that you have a
proper safety inspection if you are stopped for something
else.
17. When your vehicle registration is due, register your
vehicle as normal and use the sticker to replace both of the
previous ones.
18. You then follow the new process of inspection, then renewal
in the month your vehicle registration is due.
19. The State of Texas has set up a website to help answer all
of your questions about the new vehicle registration system.
20. The website address is TwoStepsOneSticker.com.
21. In the long run the new vehicle registration renewal system
should help everyone.
