ENT_MLE_032575EN-ed1_2017-10Chapter 06: Video Conferencing and Collaboration
/27 Enterprise Communication SolutionsOctober 2017 Offer
According to the MCU in use, end-users can benefit from video operations from the Alcatel-Lucent 8088 Smart DeskPhone, the OpenTouch Conversation for PC soft client, or a third-party endpoint.
The 8088 Smart DeskPhone offers an intuitive HD video user experience. When at their desk, executives and managers will enjoy comfortable business communications that can be escalated to peer-to-peer or multi-party HD video sessions with a single tap. The 8088 Smart DeskPhone also offers an HDMI output for screen replication on an external monitor - which is an opportunity to transform a significant number of regular meeting rooms into video-enabled conference rooms (also known as huddle rooms).
The OpenTouch Conversation for PC client improves collaboration and increases efficiency with advanced, streamlined business conversations that can include multiple parties, persistent conversations, content sharing, annotations and high-quality video conferencing.
ENT_MLE_032575EN-ed1_2017-10Chapter 06: Video Conferencing and Collaboration
/27 Enterprise Communication SolutionsOctober 2017 Offer
OpenTouch communications can operate with one or several media: Audio only Audio and data sharing Audio and video (including video escalation) Audio, video and data sharing (including video escalation)
Peer-to-peer video conversations rely on direct RTP. Quality and performance depend on network configuration and video equipment (codec/webcam).
A multi-party video conference is a session between three or more participants. Depending on video conference requirements, CPU processing requirements can differ. An external video MCU, which is a dedicated hardware solution, is required for multi-party video conference with continuous presence. Participants can use the endpoint of their choice according to the MCU in use: 8088 Smart DeskPhone or OTC PC soft client or third-party endpoint.
There are two types of conferences: Scheduled Meet-me
A Scheduled conference is a collaboration session organized in advance, where: The date, time, duration, and possible repetition of the conference are defined
using the OTC PC, OTC Smartphone or Outlook.
ENT_MLE_032575EN-ed1_2017-10Chapter 06: Video Conferencing and Collaboration
/27 Enterprise Communication SolutionsOctober 2017 Offer
Conference participants receive dial-in numbers and a conference invitation URL. If Outlook is used to schedule the conference, participants receive an Outlook Calendar appointment.
Multiparty video conferencing is managed by either the OpenTouch server or an external video multipoint control unit, depending on system configuration.
A Meet-me conference is “reservationless”. It is a scheduled conference with a duration that is not limited. The conference “room” is always open and can contain persistent chat conversations and documents.A meet-me conference provides dial-in phone numbers and conference invitation URLs (meeting URL).
Access to scheduled or meet-me conferences can be protected for an additional layer of security (leader/participant access codes and audio/web passwords).
For scheduled and meet-me conferences with more than three participants, the conferencing option must be purchased.
As mentioned above, there are two main modes of multiparty video conferencing: Selective presence (voice-activated video switching) Continuous presence (video mixing)
Selective presence means that only one participant video is displayed on screen at any specific time. This applies to presentations where the speaker must be seen by all audience members. In this context, the multiparty video conference can be handled by the embedded OpenTouch software or an external hardware MCU solution.Generally, with a software solution:
All the devices connected to the conference must be running with the same video codec—codec conversion is not possible
There is no resolution adaptation There is no possible framing modification
When the speaker changes, the new video stream is selected and broadcast to all participants thanks to the VAD mechanism (Voice Activity Detection). To ensure image quality on each video endpoint, all video clients must have the same configuration in terms of supported codecs, resolution and framing.
Continuous presence implies the use of an external hardware MCU solution in charge of building the participants view as a gallery (lay-out according to the number of participants). In addition, in partnership with major video conferencing players, ALE International offers:
Full HD (1080p) videoconference facilities, to ensure optimum conference room conditions
Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) Telepresence (HD video on a one-to-one scale)

5 Appendix – Video Terminology 5.1 Resolution For Golden RFP, For Solution handbook[SO: OXE 12.2.x – OT 2.3.x [Video terminology] Can you tell me what I need to know concerning video resolution?
ALE International Response:
Video resolution is generally expressed in pixels rather than in pixels per inch. This corresponds to the number of pixels in the columns and rows of the video display. A video resolution of 1280x720 corresponds to a grid of 1280 by 720 pixels.Different resolution standards have been developed over time to achieve an improved image definition in gradually bigger displays.
Picture ratio
QVGA VGA XGA WXGA SXGA CIF 4CIF HD 720
HD 1080
11/9 352x288
704x576
5/4 1280x1024
4/3 320x240
640x480
1024x768
8/5 1280x800
16/9 1280x720
1920x1080
By convention, many manufacturers refer to a resolution according to the width of the display, so that 1080p corresponds to full HD.Image resolution has a great impact on the necessary calculation process and bandwidth: there are nine times more pixels to process with HD video compared to CIF.[End of response]
5.2 Number of frames per second For Golden RFP, For Solution handbook[SO: OXE 12.2.x – OT 2.3.x [Video terminology] Can you tell me what I need to know concerning the number of frames per second in video?
ALE International Response:
The number of frames per second corresponds to the number of fixed images displayed on the screen by the video device in the span of one second.
ENT_MLE_032575EN-ed1_2017-10Chapter 06: Video Conferencing and Collaboration
/27 Enterprise Communication SolutionsOctober 2017 Offer
The letter "p" indicates that frames are displayed in a progressive manner. When display is interlaced, convention uses the letter "i".This number of frames is often provided along with the resolution, so that 720p30 indicates a 720p vertical resolution, where images are refreshed 30 times per second.[End of response]
