Ganga launches developmentworks in Bari Brahmana

SAMBA, Dec 12: To boostinfrastructural facilities in BariBrahmana, Minister forIndustries and CommerceChander Parkash Ganga todayinaugurated upgraded lanes anddrains facilities at Ward No. 10in Bari Brahmana being devel-oped at a cost of Rs 3.80 lakh.

Ganga also kick-started theimprovement work of lane anddrain at Ward No 11, KabirNagar to be completed at an esti-mated cost of Rs 7.58 lakh andconstruction of a community toi-let complex at Bari Brahmana tobe completed at an estimatedcost of Rs 10.50 lakh. The fundsfor community toilet complexwould be met by MunicipalCommittee Bari Brahmana andworks will be executed and fur-ther maintained by the SulabhInternational.

Speaking on the occasion,the Minister said thatGovernment is committed to

provide better infrastructuralfacilities to the people, especial-ly in the remote and far flungareas with special focus on roadconnectivity, power and watersupply, medicare and education.A number of innovative initia-tives have been taken in thisdirection for which the resultswill be visible on ground soon,he asserted.

Maintaining that theGovernment is focusing on mak-ing the State open defecation-free, the Minister said thatSwachh Bharat Mission (SBM)will be implemented in letterand spirit to achieve its objec-tive. He directed the officers tostep up the awareness campaignunder the SBM and persuade thepeople to develop the toilet unitsin their homes.

He sought the support of thelocals for maintaining environ-ment neat and clean by manag-ing the garbage in a systematicmanner in their localities.

JAMMU, Dec 12: Ministerfor Health & Medical Education,Bali Bhagat today inaugurated ablending and processing unit offitness supplement products, pop-ularly known as "FitnessUniverse" (FU) under the nameand style "Kerni Fitness PrivateLimited", first of its kind in theState, at village Seri Panditan inBhalwal block near here.

The Chief Executive Officer(CEO) and owner of the unit,Piyush Kerni is the founder of theFU, and also a local entrepreneur.He is a Mechanical Engineer anda fitness model by profession.According to the owner, the initia-tive is aimed at providing com-pletely Indian, safe and mosthygienic products to the con-sumers on competitive rates andto generate employment for thelocal educated youth.

JAMMU, Dec 12: Bishnahpolice nabbed an absconder, whowas evading his arrest since long.

As per police sources, basedon reliable information, a teamfrom Bishnah police station con-ducted raid and arrested anabsconder, who was at large sincelong.

The accused has been identi-fied as Parveen Kumar aliasPinna, son of Devraj, a resident ofChorli Bishnah.

Cops acquitted in corruption case after 22 yrs long investigation, trialExcelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Dec 12: HighCourt has acquitted two policecops, who were convicted andsentenced by the trial court,after 22 years long investiga-tion and trial in a corruptioncase.

These cops namely AbdulRashid and Ramesh Kumarduring their posting at PolicePost Thathri in March 1994 hadtaken bribe to release one per-son from the police custodyand they were booked by theVigilance Organization on thereceipt of a complaint.

The Special JudgeAnticorruption had convictedthe accused in 2003 and award-ed sentence. However, the con-victs challenged the judgmentin the High Court by filingcriminal appeal.

After hearing Advocate APSingh appearing for the appel-lant whereas Deputy AG FarzIqbal appearing for the State,Justice Tashi Rabstan set-aside

the conviction and sentenceawarded by the trial court andacquitted both the cops of thecharges after 22 years longinvestigation and trial.

"Criminal trial is not a fairytale in which one is free to giveflight to one's imagination andfantasy. Crime is an event inreal life and is product of inter-play between different humanemotions. In arriving at a con-clusion about the guilt ofaccused, charged with commis-sion of a crime, the court has tojudge the evidence by the yard-stick of probabilities, its intrin-sic worth and the animus ofwitnesses", Justice Rabstansaid.

"Every case, in the finalanalysis, would have to dependupon its own facts. The courtmust bear in mind that humannature is too willing, whenfaced with brutal crimes, tospin stories out of strong suspi-cions. Though an offence maybe gruesome and revolt thehuman conscience, an accusedcan be convicted only on legalevidence and not on surmisesand conjectures", JusticeRabstan further observed,adding "the law does not permitthe court to punish accused onthe basis of a moral convictionor suspicion alone".

"The burden of proof in acriminal trial never shifts and itis always the burden of prose-cution to prove its case beyondreasonable doubt on the basisof acceptable evidence. In fact,it is a settled principle of crim-inal jurisprudence that the moreserious the offence, the stricterthe degree of proof required,since a higher degree of assur-ance is required to convict theaccused", High Court said.

With these observations,court acquitted accused of thecharges leveled against them.

Association for Welfare of Senior Citizens holds AGM


JAMMU, Dec 12: The annu-al general meeting (AGM) of theAssociation for Welfare ofSenior Citizens (AWSC) washeld here on Sunday.

During the meeting, thehouse unanimously decided tocontinue the existing team tocontinue for another term of twoyears. The team consists of AKArora as president, RC Gupta asgeneral secretary, KK Mahajanand BM Kohli as vice presi-dents, PP Mengi as treasurer andChander Parkash as well as DrSL Abrol as joint secretaries.

In his welcome address, AKArora deliberated on theprogress made by the associa-tion as also the deliberations theassociation delegation had withGovernor NN Vohra on

December 7. The president alsoelaborated various constraintsthe association is facing in itsday to day working. He alsoinformed the house about vari-ous steps taken to improve thefinancial condition of the associ-ation.

4 injured in separate road accidents


SAMBA, Dec 12: Four peoplewere injured in three separate roadaccidents in Samba district today.

According to police onemotorcyclist namely Janu, 19, sonof Ashwani Kumar of DagoreSamba was injured when hismotorcycle bearing registrationnumber JK21C-2067 was hit bytipper JK02BJ-5912 on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway nearBarian , Supwal today.

The injured was rushed toGovernment Emergency HospitalVijaypur by the locals where hiscondition is stated to be serious.

Supwal Police has registeredthe case in this regard under rele-vant sections of law.

A pedestrian namely SakshiSharma, 29, wife of MohitSharma residents of SamthyalRattan Pur, Ghagwal was injuredwhen she was hit by a motorcycleJK08C-5520 on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway nearMaheshwar Samba today around10:45 am in which motorcyclistVishal Singh 32 son of HarbansSingh residents of Sangwali Jatwalwas also injured, police said. Bothwere rushed to GovernmentDistrict Hospital Samba fromwhere the doctors referred them toGMC Jammu.

Their condition is stated to becritical. The police has registered acase under relevant sections oflaw.

Another pedestrian was

injured when he was hit by anunknown vehicle on border roadnear Raipur Morh Samba, policesaid. He was rushed toGovernment District HospitalSamba from where the doctorsreferred him to GMC Jammu. Hewas identified as Dharam Paul 65,son of Radhan resident of BaloriSamba.

Father arrested for illegallyconfining daughter


JAMMU, Dec 12: Policearrested a father for illegallyconfining her daughter inKadyal Gujjar Basti area, fallingunder the jurisdiction of RS Purapolice station.

As per police sources, aninformation was received by RSPura police that a lady hailingfrom Kadyal Gujjar Basti hasbeen illegally confined by herfather Kaku Gujjar, son ofGhulam Hussain and nephew.

Acting over the informa-tion, a case under FIR Number186/16 under Section 343, 323,506, 504 and 34 RPC was regis-tered at RS Pura police stationand investigation started.

A team from police stationRS Pura rushed to the house andrescued the lady, who was tiedby her father and nephew withiron chains.

Moreover, a case underFIR Number 76/16 underSection 366 and 109 RPC alsostands registered with police sta-tion RS Pura on the complaint ofKaku Gujjar regarding the kid-napping of same lady.

He said that thesharp hike of Rs 5 per kg in theprice of atta from Rs 8 per kg toRs 13 per kg with furtherincrease in the price of ricefrom Rs 10 to Rs 15 was mostunreasonable and could not bejustified by any stretch of imag-ination. He said that spurt wasunprecedented as it amountedto 63% increase in the price ofatta and 50% increase in theprice of rice which posed themost menacing threat to thepockets of the common man.
