So, if Chad stays for one year…
• Chad walks into Santa Cruz as a Junior and is quite capable of finishing in 2 years
• Chad has completed lower division general education
• Chad has completed all lower division preparation for the major
• Chad saves thousands of dollars
“How will my AP exams be applied?”
• How will they apply to an AA degree? • How will they apply to UC units/admissions? • How will they apply to CSU units/admissions? • How will they apply to IGETC? • How will they apply to CSU GE? And finally… • How will they be considered in the major?
AP Questions ?
International Baccalaureate
• UC System-wide IB policy – If CCC faculty equates credit for IB exams as
equivalent to CCC IGETC–approved courses, they can be used
• Campus policies at the CSUs – There is no current systemwide policy for IB
• IB policy for IGETC • What happens to my exams at the campus
level?
Campus Example: How IB is applied
• UC Example: Chemistry IB Exam at UC Davis
– Score of 5, 6 = Chemistry 10 (Concepts of Chemistry) – Score of 7 = Chemistry 2A (General Chemistry)
• CSU Example: – Score of 4 = 10 units of credit for CHEM 1101 and CHEM 1102
– Clears local GE Area B1 or B5 and B3 • Moral of the story: IB exam applicability at the campus is
variable and arduous
Proposal for ASSIST to Publish External Articulation: AP, IB, CLEP
• CIAC proposal to ASSIST in March 2009 to post external exam articulation including AP, IB and CLEP; – External Exam applicability to the IGETC and CSU GE – Individual CSU and UC exam policies, including major
prep • Opportunity for CSU and UC campuses to identify external
exam credit at the campus level • Provides CCC counselors and transfer students with
consistent, direct and accurate information • Outcome looks favorable and, if approved, implementation
will occur fall 2009
Where we are today
• Hopeful future – CSU expects to have something in May – Hoping IGETC subcommittee of ICAS will
have something in May
• Draft version of IB chart • Proposal for ASSIST to publish IB
articulation
