To enable the same ACE30 hardware to be ordered with the currently available software release(s) with
the user’s selection of ACE30 Module License, the Cisco ACE30 Module must always be ordered as a set
including the following components:
1. ACE30 Module Hardware, which carries no cost
2. ACE Software, which carries no cost
3. ACE30 Module License, which carries the full cost of the ACE30 Module set
This model also supports the subsequent upgrade of the ACE30 Module performance by ordering and
installing of the upgrade license without need to change the underlying hardware. These are covered by

The ACE30 module hardware can be ordered as either an optional hardware component or as spare
hardware. In either case, the ACE30 module hardware must be configured with ACE software and an
ACE30 module license.
1. Optional hardware component (ACE30-MOD-K9) of Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switch or Cisco 7600
Router. This option is to be used when ordering the ACE30 module(s) as part of an order of a Catalyst
6500 Series Switch or Cisco 7600 Router where the ACE30 module(s) will come pre-installed in the
switch/router.
2. Spare hardware (ACE30-MOD-K9=). This option is to be used when ordering the ACE30 module(s) as
separately delivered devices, not pre-installed in Catalyst 6500 Series Switch or Cisco 7600 Router on the
same order.

ACE30 bundles offer pre-defined combinations of Catalyst 6500 Chassis, Supervisor and ACE30
modules at highly competitive pricing. Currently four bundles are offered, two of which are
complete “system bundles” including line cards.
Though not covered in the below step-by-step instructions, additional ACE30 modules, Catalyst 6500
line cards and Catalyst 6500 supervisors can be added to these bundled systems through normal
ordering methods.
1. Enter one of the four ACE30 Bundle options below in the configuration tool.

tab you will see that a number of items are pre-configured as “included”. In this case the
Supervisor and the ACE30-MOD-K9 are included. Though not shown here, you still must
configure all the configurable components of the Catalyst switch in the Bundle, including items
such as Software, Module (other than ACE30), Power Cord and Kit Options. The ACE30 options
are pre-set as part of the Bundle and are not, need not, be configured.

configuration of components you can choose to add in ACE30 Modules in the available “Module
Options”. Configuration would then follow same steps as presented in Section 4.1 of this
document, “Ordering Process for ACE30 module as part of a Catalyst 6500 switch chassis or

As stated earlier, the new ACE30 Module for the Catalyst 6500 family of enterprise-class switches
and the Cisco 7600 family of routers offers superior price-performance and an expanded set of
functionalities over the prior ACE10 and ACE20 modules. In addition to features supported on
ACE10 and ACE20, the new ACE30 offers advanced features like HTTP compression and Dynamic
Workload Scaling (DWS). The ACE30 has 2X the SSL performance and 50 percent more Layer 4
connections per second than the prior ACE10 or ACE20 Modules.
In support of the migration from ACE10 and ACE20 modules to the ACE30 module, Cisco is
offering attractively priced upgrades for each throughput tier of ACE10/ ACE20. For each
throughput tier (4G, 8G, 16G) the upgrades provides the customer with a new ACE30 Module,
with the same throughput that include maximized levels of SSL, Compression and Virtual
Contexts.
All three of these upgrades are offered at the same price, simplifying the ordering process.
Due to their unique nature, they cannot be ordered as part of a system chassis order and instead
must be ordered as “spares”. 1. Determine the current throughput license for the ACE10 or ACE20 that the customer had
purchased . Generally this can be done by using the “show license” command on the ACE10
/ ACE20 Module, as described in the “Administration Guide” for the ACE Module.
It may also be necessary to review original ordering/ sales records to ascertain the
throughput license as 4G, 8G or 16G if customer does not have the purchased licensed
installed on the ACE 10 / ACE20 Module, or if these are not on line at the time of the
upgrade ordering.
For customers who previously upgraded from 4G to 8G, or 8G to 16G license on their ACE10
/ ACE20 Module, the highest level licenses shall be used for the purpose of the upgrade to
ACE30 Module.

following Part Numbers based on the current ACE10/ACE20 throughput license. This

units of the same tier of upgrade in one line by adjusting the quantity.

5. This will complete the order process for the ACE-UPG-16-K9 line item, which includes the
pre-configured ACE30 Module hardware, ACE software and appropriate ACE30 license.
As noted in Section 3.4, because of the way the Cisco ordering configuration tools
work, the $0 top level service SKUs for the hardware and software have been linked
to the Product ID. In the example below, this is the Line 2. These SKUs will then
break down to the standard ACE30 module and software license support SKUs,
thereby pulling in the standard service list prices that are the same as if the
customer had independently purchased an ACE30 module with corresponding
ACE30 license. These are shown in Lines 2.1 and 2.2 in the example.

6. When any of the above are ordered, a new ACE30 Module with the corresponding
license as per the ordered Part Number will be shipped to the customer.
7. The customer, with help from the account team, must return the existing ACE10 or
ACE20 Module using the Cisco Takeback and Recycle Program according to
directions provided in the upgrade packaging. For customers with especially
sensitive data use, an alternative method for certification of customer destruction is
also included. In addition, any ACE10 or ACE20 Module throughput upgrade license
used as basis for the ACE30 Module upgrade is now voided (as used for the
upgrade).
8. Finally, once the ACE10 or ACE20 Modules are removed from service, the customer
should seek a service credit for the unused portion of their ACE10 or ACE20 service
contracts. Normal service crediting policies and processes should be followed.
