Academic Skills CentreThe University of Bath’s Academic Skills Centre (ASC), formerly the English Language Centre, has over 25 years’ experience in successfully providing academic skills and English language support to current and prospective students at all levels.
Situated at the heart of the University’s campus overlooking the unique and beautiful World Heritage city of Bath, the ASC is here to prepare you for your study on a University degree programme, undergraduate or postgraduate, through a range of Pre-sessional courses. Once you have started your chosen degree, we support you to develop the skills you need to attain the highest levels of academic achievement in your studies, future career and beyond, through our Academic Skills programmes.
We also have a Writing Centre, supporting students and staff to develop all aspects of academic and professional writing.
Our Self Access Language Centre offers an extensive range of multimedia and printed materials to enable you to learn a new language or brush up on your existing language skills.
We are committed to delivering the highest standards of teaching and learning. Our programmes are delivered by
a team of highly qualified and experienced teachers, working in partnership with academic and support staff, ensuring you receive the very best experience during your time here at Bath.

Academic Skills ProgrammeThe Academic Skills Centre at the University of Bath provides a wide-ranging programme of Academic Skills classes, workshops and tutorials for all students studying on a University degree programme. These are aimed at helping you to develop the skills you need to achieve the most from your studies and for your future career development.
Our programme has been designed to complement your academic studies and is free of charge. It includes:

English Language and Culture (ELAC)
The Academic Skills Centre at the University of Bath offers a comprehensive English Language and Culture (ELAC) programme during July and August each year. Designed for students over the age of 18, ELAC enables you to develop and improve your English language skills, immerse yourself in British culture and find out more about the many aspects of life here at the University.
Delivered by a team of highly experienced, qualified teachers, this high energy and active English language programme has been designed to give you a learning experience to remember. Studying with students at the same language level as your own, you will make friends from all over the world and learn with them while developing your confidence in English. OurELACprogrammecomprisesfourtwo-weekcoursesrunning in July and August. You can join at any point and study for either two or four weeks. Classes cover all language skills with the main emphasis on speaking and listening. The courses offer:

Writing Centre
The Academic Skills Centre at the University of Bath has an established Writing Centre located centrally on campus providing writing skills development for all students and staff.
The Writing Centre’s aim is to support you in all aspects of your academic writing, enabling you to get the most from your studies and for your future career development.
Working in partnership with academic staff and support services on campus, the Writing Centre has also developed strong links with international partners enabling them to share good practice in writing support worldwide.

Self Access Language Centre
The Academic Skills Centre at the University of Bath has a well-established Self Access Language Centre, located at the centre of the campus within the University Library, providing open access and flexible learning for all students and staff seeking independent language learning.
This Centre’s aim is to offer you a gateway to the languages and culture of the world and to support you in all aspects of your language learning.
