Impossible God
is a one-manpassion play written by
Frank Toppingand
performed byMark Topping
Impossible God recreates the world of those whowitnessed the passion. Palestine AD32 is brought to lifeas numerous characters relive their experience of theevents.
Impossible God is a powerful exploration of the historicalevents at the heart of the Christian faith.
This inspiring one-man play challenges us to look againat Jesus of Nazareth and consider the meaning of hislife, death and resurrection.
Mark Topping is a professional actor who has appearedas John Wesley on BBC TV’s Songs of Praise and FlogIt! In 2008 he was Che Guevara at the King’s Theatre inGloucester.
'It is rare to see acting of this quality. I would recommendit to any church.' Rev. Graham Peacock.
'Be prepared to be moved and challenged.’Rev. Helen Hoe.
'You made us feel we were there.' Rev. Malcolm Peach.
'Unforgettable... a very professional and imaginativeperformance.' Joan Appleton, former principal of the MackenzieSchool of Speech and Drama, Cambridge.
'I imagine most people who come to a performance, likeme, wonder how you will sustain our interest in all thosecharacters and whether you will say anything new. Youoffered us a novel way of looking at the passion whichwas gripping and provocative.' Rev. Rob Hufton.
The Play is based on the devotional book ‘An ImpossibleGod’ written and adapted for the stage by author, actor, broadcaster and Methodist minister,Frank Topping.
Frank is perhaps best known for his 'Pause For Thought'appearances on the BBC Radio 2 Terry Wogan breakfastshow.

A century ago, Minstergate was full of the sights, sounds and smells of Charles Burrell & Sons ‘St Nicholas Works’where a variety of steam-powered engines and other machines were produced. By the time that the past photographwas taken in the mid-1970s many of Burrell’s old buildings had been used as a canning factory for three decades. Past photograph from the David Osborne collection.

Thetford parkrunHit the great outdoors and get in great shape whenthe FREE weekly parkrun event comes to Thetford!
‘parkrun’ is a programme aiming to get people fit andactive with a 5km course once a week. parkrun startedin 2004 with just 13 participants in Bushy Park,Teddington. Since then, parkrun events have taken off ina big way with 158 locations across the country and1875 runs.
Abbey Meadows will host Thetford’s parkrun everySaturday from 9am, and is open to all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes – what better way to get into shape inpreparation for the summer or simply improve yourhealth. Participants will need to register onwww.parkrun.org.uk to get a unique bar code whichthey will need to bring with them each time they take part.
Breckland Council, Moving Thetford Forward, ActiveNorfolk, Thetford Town Council and parkrun aresupporting the initiative and need your help to get theexciting and energetic programme off the ground.
Lynda Turner said: “It’s a fantastic way of committingyourself to a weekly programme of exercise in a waythat’s great fun, motivational and with a distance of just5km; it is achievable for most people. We hope theThetford parkrun will be just as successful as it is in allthe other locations across the country.”
Melanie Floyd, Event Director, said: “This fantasticinitiative caters for all levels of runner/jogger/walker.Whether you’re putting on your trainers for the first timeor have a passion for marathons, parkrun offerssomething for everybody.
The great thing about parkrun is that it is run by thecommunity for the community. Initially, we need 10volunteers to get the event off the ground. The volunteerswill receive training and help organising the weeklyparkrun event. You don’t have to be a runner to volunteer, just someone who may have an hour or two spare everyother Saturday morning who we can call upon to help.”
For more information on taking part in the parkrun or ifyou are interested in becoming a volunteer please contactMelanie Floyd on 07702 493492 or [email protected].

New Era of Skin CareInnovation
As consumers we are regularly bombarded withthe latest developments and innovations, whether it be in cosmetics, in the form of TVadverts for the latest ingredients in a shampoo,to technological advances in phones andcomputers.
Skincare is no different; It’s a constant streamof development, from discoveries of innovativeingredients to really change the way theproducts work, to advances in the way in whichmachine driven systems can offer groundbreaking treatments in the salon.
There is no doubt that cosmeceutical ingredientsand dermatologist approved products will be themainstay of the future of skincare. One of thenewest ingredients to make a breakthrough arepeptides. They are in several result driven anti-ageing products and treatments and they arehighly effective at penetrating into the skin tohelp stimulate the production of new collagenand elastin.
Up until now a sun screen with factor 30 hasbeen the highest safe limit to avoid oversensitising the skin with more chemicals. But thegood news is that Oleosome technology isrevolutionising the skin care and sunscreenmarket. Oleosomes are naturally occurringspheres of plant oils and vitamin E found insafflower seeds. These can be used insunscreen formulas and can boost SPF30 toSPF50, with the Oleosomes delivering agents tothe skin in a time release fashion.
The inclusion of antioxidant protection usingvitamins C and E has been shown in clinicalstudies to support the SPF by neutralisingdamaging free radicals generated by the sunand not screened by the SPF values.

Pupils at Thetford Grammar Junior School havebeen busy taking part in the annual RSPB’s BigSchools’ Birdwatch. With binoculars and clipboardsat the ready they have been helping to count the birdsaround school in order to contribute towards the nationalsurvey that takes a ‘snapshot’ of bird numbers acrossthe UK.
After an assembly that taught the children specialtechniques for identifying birds, including by recognitionof their bird song, it was then the pupils’ job to identifyand count their sightings.
“After a slow start due to the recent snowfall, many ofour pupils from ages 4 – 11 have enjoyed spending timeoutside looking closely at the birdlife that visit the schoolgrounds. We are lucky that we have plenty of outdoorspace and greenery where the birds like to feed!” – MrsButler-Hand, Head of Junior Department.
The final results show that pigeons and blackbirds werethe most frequently seen birds around Thetford GrammarSchool and this information will now be sent off to theRSPB database.

Have you visited Thetford’s Forgotten Garden? It isa walled, wildlife garden in the old part of Thetford.Nestled in the grounds of Ford Place Nursing Homein Ford Street, it is open to the public Thursday toSunday, all year round.
Fourteen years ago the previous owners of Ford Placewanted to build sheltered housing in the walled gardenbut discovered that they would never get planningpermission because of it’s historical importance.Thetford’s heritage officer heard of this and offered totake the garden on if he could get help from thecommunity. He approached a local garden designer, looked for funds and put the word out that help wasneeded to reclaim this gorgeous walled garden. The rest, they say, is history!
The local volunteers were enthusiastic and committed. Many work parties later, support from all different partsof Thetford and beyond, some serious fundraising and, nature taking its course, the garden is now a peacefulhaven.
Initially, the idea was that the garden would be ashowcase for a range of our beautiful native plants butwhen rabbits moved in they had different ideas! Afterlots of experimentation, there are now plants that therabbits leave. However, the glory of the garden is a smallorchard of old Apple varieties – with beautiful blossomin the Spring and great crops from August onwards. AQuince avenue, Medlars, Bee Hives and a maturing pondalso delight visitors.
From the beginning, the group was interested ineducating visitors about the joys and benefits ofgardening for wildlife. They had many events over theyears but wanted something more permanent andrecently a wonderful opportunity arose. The group is nowsmall and was looking for new volunteers but somethingbetter came along. St Christopher’s Primary School inRed Lodge was looking for an ‘outside classroom’ andwas delighted with the garden and rebuilt sheds.Meetings ensued and the school is now planning to makeThetford’s Forgotten Garden it’s ‘outside classroom’ Thefuture got even better when Barchester Healthcare, FordPlace owners, agreed to involvement with the school butalso to employing a gardener and keeping the gardenopen to the public.
The Forgotten Garden group is delighted and has nowdecided to disband as the future of Thetford’s ForgottenGarden is secure and very exciting. It wants to thank allthe people and organizations who have supported thegarden in so many different ways over the years andthose who sponsored and planted all the trees which arenow maturing and so beautiful. Thanks particularly to

Barchester Healthcare and manager, Muriel Hadley-Brown, who have secured a bright future for the garden.
Now over to Kathryn McMurtary, Head of St Christopher’s
Education involves encouraging children to engage andenthuse about their learning. Many of the more formalskills of reading, writing etc are strengthened anddeveloped when used in an exciting way. ThetfordsForgotten Garden gives us that opportunity.
We aim to use the site, including the rebuilt sheds as anoff-site classroom to develop art, science and creativewriting. The grounds are simply inspiring and I’m surethe children will enjoy a chance to develop their skills inthis wonderful “secret” garden.
Alongside our normal curriculum we intend to developsocial awareness and this gives us an ideal opportunityto integrate with members of the local community in asafe and secure environment, so if you visit you may findthere are a number of eager children ready to chat. Wewill not intrude on those who want peace and quiet, infact one of our missions as a Church school is tointroduce sessions of silent retreat for the children toreflect on their busy lives, something we all need to doto carry our learning forward. We also hope to forge linkswith the home on an informal basis allowing twogenerations to meet and socialise.
Finally for those worried about lots of children taking overthe area we aim to use the area wisely and effectivelywith only a positive impact on the garden. Indeed we arevery proud at St Christopher’s School of the behaviour ofour pupils and look forward to a long relationship withthe Forgotten Garden, Ford Place,Thetford.

Queen's JubileeThe Thetford Society organised a tribute to QueenElizabeth II's sixty year reign by planting a short avenueof six established London Plane trees near the GentleBridge. Each tree was planted to represent each decadeof her reign.
Mayor Terry Lamb and the Shadwell Estate's FinancialDirector, Chris Kennard, carried out the openingceremony despite the recent rains trying to put a damperon the proceedings. Society members and TownCouncillors braved the elements to applaud thecommemoration.
Barcham, the Tree Specialist from Ely, kindly donated thesix trees. Other costs were met by donations from Societymembers including corporate members, the TownCouncil, the Shadwell Estate, Simark and Leaping Hare.
The commemorative plaque will be displayed near theriver end of the avenue.

Taylor Vinters is a trading name of Taylor Vinters LLP. Taylor Vinters LLP is a limited liability partnership registered in England and Wales(registered number OC343503) which is authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and is authorised and regulated
by the Financial Services Authority for investment business. A list of members is available from our registered office.
Many victims of assault, and other violentcrimes, suffer seriousinjuries but they areoften unable to identifytheir attackers. If theattackers are identified itis rare for the attacker
to have the financial means to pay their victimscompensation. Does this mean that victims ofviolent crimes have no means of seekingcompensation? No. Victims of violent crimescan apply for compensation to the CriminalInjuries Compensation Authority (CICA), agovernment-funded body which wasestablished to compensate those who sufferphysical or psychological injury as a result ofviolent crimes. Awards can be made even ifthe attacker is unidentified.
So what is a crime of violence? The mostobvious example is an assault, but othersinclude arson, poisoning and the deliberateuse of an animal or a vehicle as a weapon.
To be eligible to apply for compensation, applicants must have reported the crime tothe police without delay and they must co-operate with the police investigation.Applications should be made as soon aspossible (usually within 2 years of the crime).
The CICA will investigate the incident toensure that a crime of violence took place and
that the person applying was a blamelessvictim. The CICA will consider the value of theclaim and make an award based on a tariff.Compensation awards currently range from£1,000 up to £500,000.
It is important to get advice from a specialistsolicitor before making an application to theCICA, to stand the best chance of anapplication succeeding and receiving anappropriate award as the CICA often reject applications.
In many cases the CICA make low offers.A specialist solicitor will ensure that theappropriate medical evidence and witnessstatements are obtained to ensure that thebest award possible is achieved.
We recently dealt with a case where the CICAinitially offered only £47,500, but withpersistence and consistent referencing to acatalogue of specialist medical evidence wehad obtained, the CICA increased their offerto £368,000.

ChildhoodImmunisations
Dr Matt Piccaver
I'm sure, when I was a kid, all we seemed to get was asugar lump, a “TB jab”, and left to fend for our owndevices, or perhaps just get ill. It seems these days thereare a vast array of childhood immunisations, so I thoughtI'd explain a little about the immunisations that childrenget these days, and what might be just around thecorner.
Over the coming few issues, I'll go on to outline theillness we're trying to prevent, and the role of childhoodimmunisations in protecting us from such illness, be theyspotty, snotty, or potentially fatal.
From the first time Edward Jenner experimented withCow Pox pus to protect a farmer's boy from Small Pox,immunisations have made a massive impact across theglobe. In addition to sanitation and housing, thevaccination programme is one of the corner stones ofpublic health protection in the UK.
So what do we have through life, and when?
It all starts at 2 months of age with:Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Polio, Haemophilusinfluenzae b, and Pneumococcal disease (DtaP/IPV/Hib)for short
3 months: - DtaP/IPV/Hib second dose as above, inaddition to Menigococcal Group C (MenC)
4 months: - Boosters for DtaP/IPV/Hib, Meningitis Cand Pneumococcal disease.
Around the first birthday: - Haemophilus influenzaeb, Meningitis C, Pneumococcal disease and MMR(measles, mumps and rubella)
Three years 4 months: - Diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus and polio, plus the MMR second dose.
Girls 12-13 yrs: - Human papilloma virus (forprevention of cervical cancer)
13 – 18 yrs: - Tetanus, diptheria and polio.
I'll try and provide an outline of the diseases and theimportance of prevention over the coming few issues.
Till next time.
Many thanks to Dr Piccaver for continuing with hisarticle since he left Thetford last month, greatlyappreciated.

Hi Gardeners!
Well, we are in to the month of March, so what shouldwe be doing this month? By now the parsnips seedsshould be in and the shallots and onions too, but onlyweather permitting. It is still very cold at the moment, soyou may have to pick your timing.
You should have chitted your potatoes by now (meaningstood them in an egg tray with the eye pointing upwardsand place them somewhere cool until planting.) I neverplant mine out until Easter, so that I miss the frosts.
You will need this time to get your manure dug in, if youhave not already done so, and make sure there are noweeds in the garden or allotment.
If you have planted tomatoes in trays and they are upalready, prick them out into pots and if the weather iskind to us then put them in a cold greenhouse to growon, ready for planting out when the time comes.
The daffodils are starting to come up now, so they willbe a pretty sight when they open up. We have had a goodshow of snow drops, which are just about finished as arethe crocuses.
Time to clean out the pond in the bottom of the garden,if it is not frozen over, and you can start to feed the fisha little at a time. And don't forget our feathered friendsout there, who are now calling with the dawn chorus inthe mornings looking for a mate. Such a lovely time ofyear Spring, everything coming into bud and coming tolife again.
Well reader, that is all for this month.Take care and if you need some information pleasecall on 07867974544 or email me on [email protected]
The next speaker for March is Ian Limmer from PeterBeales Roses at the United Reformed church 7.30pmMarch 28th. We have a seed swap too.
The Spring show will be April 6th at the Church on theWay, Churchill Way. if you would like to enter please comeand join us setting up is 8.30am to 10.15am.....Judging is 10.30am to 1.00pm andopen to the public is 2.00pm prize giving is 3.00pmAll are welcome the more the merrier.Bye for now Yvonne
