Calvary
Calvary Baptist Church is a body of believers whose purpose is …
To glorify God by becoming disciples who know and live God’s will.
With summer over, it’s time to get back into the swing of things with your LifeGroup. One of the foundations for all LifeGroups is to engage in 4 outreach projects over the course of a year. Two of these can occur within the church (Trunk or Treat, Easter Egg Hunt, etc.) but two must reach beyond the walls of Calvary. Following are several oppor-tunities being sponsored by a particular LifeGroup with which your group can partner.
● Simonka House Worship: Once a month our Sisters in Christ group leads a Friday evening time of worship at Simonka House (a facility for
homeless single women and single women with children struggling to overcome drug and alcohol addictions, as well as other life controlling behaviors). Greeters, worship leaders, etc. are always needed. Contact: Lisa Mann.
● Hands and Feet Project: The Worship Team is putting together small care packages that you can have in your car to pass out to the
homeless you may encounter (see page 9). They are looking for donations (materials or money) which they’ll use to compile the care packages which church members can then pick-up. Contact: Carissa Bennet or Terri Stanley.
● South Salem High School Outreach: There are a myriad of needs confronting students at South Salem H.S. - everything from homelessness to col-
lege prep mentoring. The Wednesday Evening Bible Study Group is constantly finding news ways to impact these students in a manner that also reminds them of Christ' love for them. Contact: Tom Mann.
● Homebound Connections:
The Prayer Team is facilitating connecting active Calvary members with our church homebound population. If you are willing to make a 20 minutes phone call once/week to one of our homebound members, this ministry is for you. Contact: Pastor Bret.

Direct Line to
the Father
Our Lord Jesus declared that
“men ought always to pray and not to faint,” and the parable in which his words occur, was taught with the intention of saving men from
faintheartedness and weakness in prayer.
Our Lord was seeking to teach
that laxity must be guarded against, and
persistence fostered and encour-aged.
There can be no two
opinions regarding the importance of the exercise of this
indispensable quality in our praying.

Men’s Early
Risers Study
We are studying from John MacAr-thur’s book, “Twelve Ordinary Men.” The book emphasizes:
The ordinary personalities and characteristics of the disciples
Shows how extraordinary they became because of time spent with Jesus and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
Encourages ordinary people like you and me to believe that we can also be transformed by the Spirit of Christ into believ-ers fit for the Master’s use
The disciples had faults and char-acter flaws. They were incredibly ordinary just like you and me. Yet these men were transformed and are still influencing the world today. God delights in using the ordinary for His extraordinary purposes.
Early Risers meet on Tuesdays from 6:30 - 7:30 am at Calvary. Men, if you’re not plugged into an-other Life Group, come check us out!
Connections 301 What were you created for? Was it simply “Born - Live - Have a Little Fun - Die,” or is there something more? As a part of Calvary’s commitment to discipleship, you are invited to discover how God has uniquely “Shaped” you into someone who can be used by God in profound ways. Our next 301 seminar will be Saturday, September 26th, 8:30 am - 12:30 pm. Don’t miss this powerful opportunity to discover your spiritual gifts and how God can blend them with your natural abilities, experiences, etc. to equip you for exciting things. Please register at the Sign-Up table in the Son Room.

On Sunday, September 6th, we will have the privilege of celebrating the mar-riage of Brittney Truax and Steve Moynham by holding a reception immediately following the worship service. Brittney & Steve were recently married in England and will be in town for one weekend. This will give us the opportunity as a church family to share this exciting time with Brittney and meet Steve. We hope you can come and make this a special celebration for the Truax and Moynham fami-lies. No gifts, but there will be a money tree for those who would like to partici-pate. Money for the tree can be given to either Kate in the church office, Bob or Bev Flood, or brought on that Sunday (September 6th).

2015 World
Mission Offering
“Forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal.” PHILIPPIANS 3:13–14 (ASV) The 2015 World Mission Offering focuses on Paul's call to Stretch Forward toward the goal of advancing God's kingdom on earth. This year, we look at how that is happen-ing in 49 schools throughout Hungary and around the world. "The need is urgent. We're living in a period of grace," says one HBAid official. "We don't know how long we'll be able to do this, and we want to touch as many lives as possible." The World Mission Offering is International Ministry’s primary fundraising vehicle to support its global programs and partners. This annual event also helps care for global workers and volunteers so they can share the gospel, meet pressing human needs and teach, heal, serve and encourage others in the name of Jesus. This September, we will focus on the wide-ranging impact of the World Mission Offer-ing, using the theme Stretch Forward found in Philippians 3:13–14. Should you be lead to give to this vital ministry, your support would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Grand Opening of New Children’s Area Sunday, September 13th
It is almost here! So many people have contributed their time and talents to make our new area a fun, vibrant, and exciting area to learn about God and His word! It all be-gan back in the spring with about 20-30 volunteers from Calvary helping to clean and prepare for the transformation. Ted Moore and Ron McCarger spruced up the walls with a fresh base coat and no more holes! Russ Reed gave all the rooms fresh base boards while doing numerous other jobs on the ground floor. Craig Black fixed and switched doors and tables. Jim Charnholm and Diane Dezee created and donated the puppet stage. All this to set the stage for my amazing Children’s Ministry Team to come in and make a dull basement hallway into a Biblical town where our children will be immersed into the Bible each time they join us! A huge THANK YOU to Deb Grenz, Kathy Kamm, Tanya Fagan, April Tate, and Tony Grenz for the many hours of labor you loving gave to make this an amazing space where the children can see, feel, touch, and live Biblical Truths!
The Elementary group, aka The Grove, will be sup-ported in their spirit-filled journey with Christ (2 Timo-thy 3:14-15), as they journey to their classrooms…Parable Palace, the MarketPlace, Fishermen.net, How Great Thou Art, the Loaves and Fish Gift Store, and a few other surprises! We will continue our rota-tional curriculum - the same Bible story or theme is taught for several weeks. Each week, children rotate to a different station. The story or theme remains the same, but the children encounter it in different ways at each station. The variety of experiences keeps interest high throughout the unit. Teachers teach the same lesson according to their strengths and students experience Bible stories in the ways they learn best. Rotational learning builds on the advantages of repetition. The more ways children explore a story or con-cept, the more it is reinforced in their memories. This helps with retention for better integration of the faith story in their hearts and minds, and transforms lives. The sta-tions include: cooking, storytelling, art, computers, games, science, music, and video. We are looking forward to another exciting year in Children’s Ministry!
The Preschool-Kindergarten, aka The TreeHouse, will enjoy building friendships as they play among the trees and are invited to begin walking with God as they learn what being a disciple means. Our goal is for them to become Rooted in Christ and Growing in Faith (Jeremiah 17:7-8). This year we will focus on discovering the Old Testa-ment through "Discover God"; which introduces chil-dren to God's loving character, His greatness, and His plan.
DO YOU HAVE THE SPIRITUAL GIFT OF
GAB?
We are still seeking indi-viduals who would be
willing to be part of a new ministry that connects with our homebound members through a regular phone call. If you would like to volunteer, please see
Pastor Bret.
Bible Reading
Plans
Have you read through the Bible? It only takes about 12 minutes a day
and 2015 would be a GREAT year to accom-plish this goal. We have several reading plans
available and you can pick up one in the sanctuary entryway or on the table
just outside the Son Room.

Our littlest ones will continue to Grow into a Life of Faith as we continue weekly lessons to SEE WHAT GOD MADE in a spiritual environ-ment with Scripture lullabies and a Big Bible to reinforce that the Bible is God’s trusted Word, written just for them.
We hope all of Calvary will take time on September 13th to come check out our new space! We will have volunteers available from 9-10 am and again immediately following worship to show you around!
Christian Education Board and
Scholarship Committee
News
As all of our students return to school, we on the CE Board and the Scholarship Com-mittee want to wish Rebecca Vessey and Maggie Flood our best for the coming school year. Both of these young ladies applied for and received scholarships awards from Calvary Baptist Church. Maggie Flood is returning to Linfield College in McMinnville, while Rebecca Vessey is headed to Gordon College in Massachusetts. Our prayers are offered for success and growth as they seek and follow God's plan. We encourage all of our students (graduating seniors and returning college students) to apply. Calvary Baptist Church members are also encouraged to consider making a small financial contribution to the "General College Scholarship Fund."

The “Hands and Feet” Project We are the body of Christ and have been called to be His hands and feet to the folks in our neighborhoods and city. Deuteronomy 15:11 (ESV) says “For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’” Please join the Worship Team in an outreach project to support the homeless in Salem. Help us be the light on a hill that shows them the love of God! We will be filling Ziploc bags that we can all carry with us and hand out as we see folks in need. There will be a box in the Son Room for the “Hands and Feet Project” and we will need the following:
● Bottled water, white socks, chapstick, toothbrushes, packs of gum
● Individual serving sizes of: fruit snacks, applesauce/fruit bowls, breakfast bars, cracker packs and pop-
topped canned meat
● Small/travel sizes of: Kleenex, Toothpaste, wet wipes, Band-Aids
● Gallon size Ziploc bags and plastic spoons and forks
We would also like to invite you to volunteer to fill the bags in an assembly line! We will set up a date and post that in the bulletin as well. God bless your day – and please prayerfully consider helping us as we start this outreach to help some of the neediest folks in our home town! If you have questions please contact Carissa Bennett at [email protected] Thank you, the Worship Team!
