VOL 15 - ISSUE 2 - WINTER 2021
2021 K + M + B 2022
The Advent wreath shines brighter with each passing week. As the light of the Advent candles pierces the
darkness of every room and every church, our hope in a merciful God pierces our darkened spirits in this unsettled
world of uncertainty and hard times. At the Advent Masses, we read the prophecy of Jeremiah who lived during a peri-
od of religious turmoil and political division in Israel, a time not unlike our present age. However, Jeremiah’s prophecy
brings hope and joy in hard times for he says that a true Son of David will reign and thus justice will reign. Emmanuel is
His name: God-with-us. Our hope prompts us to sing all the louder that 11th Century Advent Carol: “ O Come, O Come,
Emmanuel”, God-with-us. The angel’s message to Joseph, “Fear not” is a message for all of us. Fear not, for Mercy-is-
with-us. Fear not, for Beauty-is-with,-us. Fear not, for Truth-is-with-us. Fear not, for Love-is with-us. Fear not, for God-
is-with-us.
At Christmas Mass during the day, the Deacon proclaims,
“The shepherds went in haste and found Mary and Joseph and the
Infant lying in the manger. They made known the message that had
been told them about the Child. All who heard it were amazed” (St.
Luke 2:18-19). When was the last time you were utterly amazed by
something: the newest gadget, a record broken by an athlete, an
insight by your favorite author. Nothing compares to amazing
things that occurred that night at Bethlehem when “the Word was
flesh and dwelt among us.” (The Angelus Prayer)
St. Paul of the Cross founded a Congregation over 300 years
ago devoted uniquely to the Passion, however, he says don’t forget
Christmas, “Celebrate the feast of Christmas every day… Where,
you will be reborn each day in the Divine Word, Jesus Christ Incar-
nate and Crucified.” May the amazing events of the Nativity and the
Passion of Jesus Christ be always in our hearts. Wishing you a
prayerful Advent and a Blessed and amazing Christmas filled with
hope and the Light of the World.
Prayerfully and gratefully,
A Message from :
A DIVINE MESSAGE
FROM THE DIRECTOR’S DESK
Last year I wrote about the quiet hallways here at Holy Name. This year the hallways
have love and laughter and tons of bustling energy. We have come a long way since the be-
ginning of the pandemic. There is still a long way to go, but I feel that there are many lessons
in the journey.
We are still not at full capacity but the joy and the laughter is palpable. Those that
are coming back to retreat are so thankful, thankful for the Lord’s gift of time with Him and
His abundant blessings on their retreat. It has been a retreat season filled with many graces.
Please take the time to sign up for one of our upcoming retreats in the spring. Time
is your first fruit. You cannot get more of it, nor can you make it yourself. Consider, this Christmas, giving the gift of
time to the Lord and schedule a retreat!!
The Fall has been a time of updating and renewal for the retreat center. The new beds, given as gifts from the
Summer Appeal, are on their way. A new fire suppression system is being installed and you will see new blinds in the
main meeting rooms. Thank you to everyone who helped us to get these important updates ordered and installed.
January 2nd we are having a grand FIESTA!! It is the anniversary of the day that the Passionist Fathers
signed the papers for this miraculous place. This will be a fun free family event, with food and games and lots for eve-
ryone to do. Please join us in celebrating 430 Bunker Hill!! The FIESTA will be from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday,
January 2, 2022.
Saint Paul of the Cross tells us that we should, “Celebrate the feast of Christmas every day, even every mo-
ment in the interior temple of your spirit, remaining like a baby in the bosom of the heavenly Father, where you will
be reborn each moment in the Divine Word, Jesus Christ Incarnate and Crucified.” This is my prayer for each of you
this Christmas season. A Celebration every day inside of your hearts, welcoming the Child Jesus.
Thank you for all that you do for Holy Name Passionist Retreat Center!! On behalf of the staff and Board of
Directors Merry Christmas and a Blessed and Joyous New Year!! I hope I get to see you all at the FIESTA!!
Blessings and Thanks,

rio o social, personal o psicológico y cultural. Las clases para este programa son im-
partidas por profesores con estudios universitarios.
