Journal of Ophthalmology

Special Issue onInnovations in Glaucoma Surgery: Improving the

Results

CALL FOR PAPERSGlaucoma still represents one of the most frequent causes of blindness in thedeveloped countries.   e technological advances lead to innovative surgeries, which are rapidly introduced in clinical practice. New devices to lower intraocularpressure without opening the eye wall, bypassing the trabecular meshwork, or

shunting the aqueous humor to the suprachoroidal space have been approvedundergoing clinical assessment within clinical trials. Currently, other devices underevaluation are showing promising results. Although these methods will increasethe options available for glaucoma surgeons, it is unclear if they could replace thepresent standard surgeries, such as trabeculectomy, deep sclerectomy, and glaucomadrainage devices. Moreover, the standard procedures are continuously modified indifferent ways to become safer and more effective.

We invite investigators to contribute original research as well as review articles thatdeal with defining all the innovative areas for surgical management of all types of glaucoma.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

Comprehension of physiopathology of glaucoma surgery Imaging in glaucoma surgery Development of new diagnostic techniques focused in glaucoma surgery Improvement in application of current surgical techniquesNew tools to improve the glaucoma surgery outcomesMinimally invasive glaucoma surgery Advances on new dyes in surgical treatment for glaucoma
