2. The penalty for not purchasing health insurance is $285 per family in 2014 or 1 percent of income. Starting in 2016, the penalty increases to $2,085 per family or 2.5 percent of income. Consumers without health insurance
will be charged the greater amount in each case.

3. There is a grace period if you are uninsured for three months or less. After three months, you will be
charged the mandate fee.
