6-2: Slope Intercept Form***The most important equation you’ll learn in
all of Algebra!!! So, pay attention! ;)
LINEAR FUNCTION/EQUATION: a function whose graph is a line.
PARENT FUNCTION: The simplest equation of a function. The equation y=x or f(x)=x is the LINEAR PARENT FUNCTION
First… the Vocabulary
Y=mx+b m = slope b = y-intercept
Y-INTERCEPT: the y-coordinate of the point where a line crosses the y-axis
SLOPE INTERCEPT FORM
Identify the slope and y-intercept.What will the graphs look like?y=3x+1y=1/2x – 5y=-2x+4y=xY= 2x
Some examples
Now, it’s your turn to graph these equations.Draw a large coordinate graph (using a ruler) in your notebooks. We’ll walk through each one slowly.y=3x+1y=1/2x – 5y=-2x+4y=xY= 2x
